Chapter 25
Dan feels as though Tylee can see right through his jeans pocket at the ring as they sit having lunch with Brandon. The conversation isn't very festive and he can see her eyeing him.
"If mom lets me off I will be back in a couple weeks and I won't just take up space this time, I fully intend on helping out," Brandon comments.
Tylee chuckles, "Good, I look forward to having you around." Why are they both being so secretive?
They continue eating in silence until the waiter brings the bill. Dan and Brandon argue back and forth for five minutes about who is going to pay for it. While they do Tylee slips the waiter the money and watches the two place reasoning's.
"Neither of you are paying for it, because I already have," She announces causing them both to turn and look at her.
"What? No, you can't pay for it!" They both declare at the same time.
She shrugs and stands up placing her hat back on her head. A smirk graces her lips as she pushes the doors open and starts towards her pickup. Serves them right for making such a big deal over it. She smiles and starts the engine of her pickup waiting on them to accompany her. When they finally do they are both grinning and have mischievous looks on their faces.
"See you later, Cus," Brandon says hugging her.
She smiles and hugs him back, "See you."
Brandon and Dan shakes hands, "See you later."
"You too," Dan says smiling.
Brandon waves to both of them as he drives off. Dan glances at Tylee smirking.
"Get in if you are going with me," she announces shaking her head. He chuckles and follows orders his smirk never fading.
The ride is quiet with only the sound of the motor and the music playing softly in the back ground. The peaceful sounds give Dan a chance to think. How am I going to do this? Where am I going to do it? He shakes his head. When am I going to do it? I have to figure out how to keep it quiet so she doesn't get any ideas. The sound of a cattle guard rattling under the pickup makes him look up from his trance.
Tylee glances over at her boyfriend as she pulls over the cattle guard leading to the house trap. He is deep in thought as he stares out the window and he seems to be talking to himself as his facial expressions change. She holds back her giggles as he jumps ever so slightly at the sound of the cattle guard. What is he been thinking about?
"Fawn, I am going to go to the bunkhouse for lunch, if that's okay," he says breaking her from her own thoughts.
"Yeah that's fine." Okay that is weird, usually he would rather help me cook. She frowns deeply as she opens the back door. There is a slight push against it as she gently pushes it closed.
"I'm not leaving without something," he says sticking his head through the small opening.
She giggles and pecks his lips quickly.
He scoffs, "That's all I get?"
Giggling once more she shrugs.
He pushes the door all the way open and catches her by the waist pulling her to him, "I can't go on such little fuel." He kisses her cheek and spins her around to face him. Her smile is like a match setting fire to his heart as she leans in ever so slightly enticing him into a deep kiss. He closes the gap and covers her lips with his.
"I love you," he whispers after breaking the kiss for a breath.
"I love you too, Teddy Bear."
He pecks her lips quickly before calling to her over his shoulder, "I'll be back in a little bit."
She nods, even though he can't see her. Her heart sinks as she stumbles onto the couch. What if he's cheating? Dan wouldn't do that, would he?
Not knowing what to think or how to feel she cuddles Daisy on the couch while her mind thinks of all the possibilities. She tries to shove the thoughts to the side and turns to her bible. Opening it to Matthew she begins to read in chapter 5 starting in verse 15. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
She prays after reading it then moves to the kitchen to find something to eat. Settling on a grilled cheese she turns on a burner and moves her Granna's cast iron girdle on to it. Once the griddle is warm she places her two pieces of bread with cheese in the middle, on the griddle and leans against the counter. When it is done she sinks her pearly white teeth into the cheese filled sandwich.
Once she is finished eating she sticks her hat back on her head, shrugs on her coat and heads outside with Daisy at her heels.

Dan pulls out his phone and finds his dad's number while grabbing the ham in the fridge. Heating the meat up he listens to the ringing of the phone. Finally, after ten rings his dad's rich voice meets his ears, "Hey son."
"Hey Dad, how have things been?" He asks smiling.
"Pretty good, there?"
Dan lowers himself into a chair, "Crazy." He chuckles, "I need your ideas though."
"Okay?"
He smiles knowing that his dad's eyebrows are farrowed together, "I am going to propose to Tylee, but I have no idea when to do it."
"Soon, the longer you be sneaky the worse things get. Trust me, your mom broke up with me before I proposed because she thought I was cheating on her."
Dan grimaces, "Ouch. I definitely don't want that to happen, although I think she is getting suspicious that there is something going on. Not to mention her cousin and best friend have already almost told her."
"Goodness, how long have you had this idea?" His dad asks making him laugh.
Dan laughs, "Two days or so, but nobody can keep it in."
His dad laughs too, "Looks like it is a good thing you don't go into town everyday."
"Yeah, I better go."
"Alright talk to you later."
Dan tells his dad bye and hangs up sinking his teeth into the now warm ham with a smirk.
Once he is done eating he grabs his hat and plunks it on his head before heading out side pulling on his coat as he does. Getting in his pickup he shoots Tylee a text.
Hey My Fawn, I am going to check the water in the South Tree pasture.
With a smile he pulls through the green metal gate leading into the South Tree. He cuts the engine about a hundred yards from the tree that her Papaw's message was carved in. He pulls out the lanters he had picked up in town and hangs them up on branches. Smiling Dan grabs the wooden bench he had found in the storage room and places it under the tree. When he is satisfied with his work he turns back to his pickup and heads back to the barn.
He easily finds Tylee in the barn brushing Willow Wind, "Hey, my Fawn," he greets wrapping his arms around her.
"Hey, Teddy Bear," she replies her voice dry.
He grabs a brush and begins on the opposite side, "Would you go on a evening ride with me at dusk?"
She moves her gaze to stare at him, "Sure, where to?"
"That is for me to know and you to only find out once we arrive," he tells her tapping the end of her nose from across the horse.
She rolls her eyes and continues brushing, "Fine, but you have to come to supper at the house."
"Oh I was going to do that anyway," he comments smirking.
She shakes her head and throws the brush back in the bucket. Stepping inside the tack room she grabs a treat and holds it out on her palm in front of Wind's nose. The mare sniffs it before lipping it into her mouth and chomping happily. Tylee smiles and strokes Wind's neck, "Good girl."
Dan smiles and wraps his arm around Tylee's waist as she leads Willow Wind out into a fare size pen.
