Chapter 36

Jessie's POV

We land hard inside of the storm, finding ourselves in what seems to be a hallway.

I shiver at the thought of almost being trapped in here.

Gabreil had done it for almost a month.

If I had counted the days properly that is.

I had no idea how time worked here.

Sun and moon.

That's all they had.

And I figured out that my phone only tells the time of the world I came from.

Over there is was six am.

Six.

Over here it had to be the middle of the night.

"Jessie? You okay?" Petra asks, dusting off her black shorts.

I nod, finally pushing myself to my feet.

Man, this place had to just reek with the smell of death and sickness didn't it?

We walk over to each other, seeing all the people stuck in the storm with glowing white eyes.

Petra tries to hide a frightened gasp as she back up into a chicken that had gotten stuck in here.

She shivers at the sight of its eyes.

"At least we know that they aren't dead." She mutters, obviously creeped out.

I nod, agreeing.

This place could freak anyone out.

"Let's get to that block so we can get the heck out of here!" I say, using my hands to speak.

Petra nods, taking out the sword.

I take out the Axe, ready for whatever this thing can do.

Before we can take two steps down the path, it flips on its side, sending us spiraling downwards.

My back smashes against the blocks, making all the air leave my lungs.

A cough escapes me as I choke trying to get air back into my lungs.

"Jessie!" Petra shouts, helping to my feet.

Air returns to me, making me sigh.

If she wasn't here, I don't think I would have been able to get up.

At least I don't have the sickness.

"We need to get to that block before that happens ag-" before I can finish the hallway topples again and this time Petra lands on top of me, making my breath leave me again.

This time not because of the blow to my back.

Her cheeks were tinted red at how close we were to each other, and I felt my own heat up.

"Sorry." Petra mutters, rolling off of me to help me up.

We get to our feet, not able to look at each other again as we walk the rest of the way through the weird hall.

Once in the giant cave like dome at the end, we see it.

Surrounded by rounded colomns of black blocks is the command block, standing high and mighty.

We both snap out of our embarrassed daze at the sight.

"We need to get this over with." She states, making me nod.

"I couldn't agree more." I agree.

We climb the blocks to the small platform that holds the cursed block, holding our weapons, ready to strike.

Petra and I stare at each other for a second.

"No matter what happens, we need to destroy the block. Promise me?" I ask, making her nod.

"Whatever happens." She whispers.

Together we raise our weapons, striking the block at the same time.

A loud clanging noise sounds through the entire cave, making the ground shake and the columns above us unwind and turn to tentacles.

Together we fight them off, only to stumble off the pedistal when it rises upwards into the middle of the cave.

I stare up, just glad it isn't upsidedown on the roof or something.

Petra cuts a couple of the tentacles in half, letting them drop to the floor.

Once enough of the ones around on the main floor are taken care of, we climb the slope again to the block, striking it again.

Still though, it doesn't break.

The pedistal starts to turn, making us roll along the walls.

Great. I had to say it was good that it wasn't on the roof didn't I?

"How are we going to get up there?" Petra asks.

A lightbulb goes off in my head, making me take out my secret weapon.

My Nerf crossbow.

I had modified it to be able to shoot anything.

And that included the weapons we held.

"Hand me you're sword!" I shout, but before she can we spot beams moving towards us, dodging out of the way.

We stare in shock at the sight of two heads on either side of the cave.

"Petra! I need you to distract them while I get the block!" I shout over to her, making her nod.

She throws me the sword, amiing me catch it just before it falls down a endless pit that leads to the ground far below us.

Even with armour that fall would kill us.

I tie some string around the weapons, sticking them together with slime, and charge them inside the gun.

"Jessie! Watch out!" Petra shouts, making me roll out of the way in time to miss a tractor beam.

Unluckily for me Petra is caught in one cause she warned me.

And she can't escape.

My mind whirls.

This was my last chance to destroy the block.

I aim carefully up as Petra covers her eyes, too scared to scream, as she floats up towards one of the heads.

Time slows down, and I feel everything flowing back to me.

Every promise to Reuben to get him home.

Every time I caught myself staring at Petra.

Every time Olivia thought I was bad, only to turn into my best friend.

Every time Axle geeked out in boomtown.

Every time Petra believed in me...

My eyes that I didn't know were closed open, filled with determination.

"This is for all you've done!" I scream, shooting the weapons up at the block.

For a split second after time speeds up, I swear I missed, then the two weapons hit the block, making a bright light shine in my eyes.

Then, when my vision returns, I see Petra falling down towards the endless hole.

No.

I jump forward, holding her above me as we fall.

....

I'm evil.

Sorry about the really bad cliffhanger, and I will ltry to update soon. I have like the rest of my French class to write since we aren't doing anything right now, so I may update again in the next hour or so. See you soon!
