Chapter 30 (Holy this is long)
Jessie's POV
It was obvious that Petra hadn't slept in days, so I offered to steer the horse for the remainder of the trip.
She happily let me do so, and was asleep right now.
She was really cute when she was asleep.
I shake away the thought.
Though I chose this place over what used to be my home, I needed to keep my eyes on the prize.
And right now?
That prize was defeating the storm.
But maybe one day she might be the prize....
"So, Ivor has had a super weapon this entire time and he never thought to craft it and use it?" I ask, making Olivia sigh.
"Trust me. Its as stupid as it sounds." She growls, earning a glare from Ivor.
"I couldn't use it! It isn't my job!" He exclaims for the fifth time.
I roll my eyes.
"Whatever Ivor. Now its our job, and you're going to help us get that weapon." I growl, only to hear a different type of growl come from Gabriel.
He smiles lightly.
"Sorry. I'm not sure what that was." He apologizes.
Olivia face palms.
"It means your hungry. And I would think we could all use some food." She murmrurs, making my eyes light up.
"No. We can't stop. This is a swamp." Ivor growls.
Olivia looks disappointed, so I throw her a chocolate bar I had stuffed into my pocket before I left my old home.
She looks at it in confusion.
"Why did you throw this at me?" She asks, looking the chocolate up and down as if it was some sort of alien object.
I roll my eyes.
"Its chocolate. Eat it. And share half with Gabriel." I state.
The two split the bar, smiling at the taste.
Petra stirs behind me, stretching.
"Man. Who knew that a comfortable place to sleep would be sitting on a horse." She states, making me smile.
I had her the last chocolate bar after tossing one to Ivor.
I was starting to like the bearded man more than Soren.
At least he stopped saying I didn't belong here.
Soren couldn't seem to let it go though.
Too bad for him, I'm not going anywhere any time soon.
She takes a bite, her eyes brightening.
"Whoa! This is amazing!" She breathes, making me smile.
It was fun to see her like this.
We pass through the swap with no problems, though we saw a witch's hut, which we passed without hesitation.
"So, where is this lab of yours?" I ask as we exit the swamp.
Ivor smiles proudly.
"The farlands." He boasts.
I'm actually impressed.
"Wow! Only a handful of people have ever actually been there!" I exclaim, making Soren roll his eyes.
"Yeah. Super impressive. Its just a giant wall where logic makes way for chaos." He scoffs, making me shrug off his rude comment.
"Whatever Soren. Its still cool." I state, earning a nod from Olivia.
We reach the wall, getting off our horses.
"Okay, so there is a large maze in front of my lab, that luckily, I know a way around, but if anything is to go wrong, do not go into the maze." Ivor states, making me confused.
Obviously he would make it impossible to figure it out, but wouldn't it be safer than out in the open?
"Sure. Let's just move." Petra states, urging us to move faster.
I couldn't agree more.
We all follow Ivor up to the wall, gaping at the sight.
"Woah. Super cool." I state, smiling.
I had seen videos of people getting to the farlands before...
But to be here in person?
It was bizarre.
But then again, me just being here was bizarre.
"I couldn't agree more." Petra says, smiling brightly.
Wow, okay, now that got my stomach turning.
"Right then. Let's go." Soren grumbles, almost like her agreement angered him.
We all head inside the tunnel, only to turn off into what seemed like just a hole.
Good thing Ivor was here, or I would think that we wouldn't have seen that cave, and had gone into the maze.
We walk through darkness for a while, making my heart race considering it was way to dark to see if any monsters were going to spawn.
Or were spwned.
I take out my once foam sword, seeing that its now pure diamond.
Wow, I never could have imagined how cool this would look.
I'm at the back of the group with Petra, while Soren and Ivor are at the front.
"So, Jessie, after the battle, what are you planning on doing?" Petra asks, making me confused.
After the battle?
I hadn't even thought about that.
"Well, Olivia gave me an offer to stay in her new treehouse with Axle once they built it." I reply, remembering the conversation that seemed to happen so long ago.
Petra smiles.
"That sounds really great Jessie." She smiles, but there's a look in her eyes that says otherwise.
"Petra? What's up?" I ask, making her sigh.
"I don't know. It seems like you have everything planned out, and I'm just wondering if I fit into that plan." She mutters, taking me off guard.
Sure I had considered what Reuben said to me about liking Petra, but I just couldn't let myself.
Who knows how she would react to me telling her that.
"You know, you could always ask to join in on that treehouse action." I say, smirking.
She looks up at me with her chocolate brown eyes that I could have stared into all day.
She doesn't say anything after that, she just has a small smile that is obviously controlled into just that.
She was happier than she was showing.
Cute.
"Alright! The flying machine is just out here." Ivor states, leading us out onto a platform.
We all rush forward to get on the bardge.
Only to see a hoard of zombies heading right for us.
Petra gapes, but not at the monsters.
From here you could see all the different possible paths that we could have taken through the maze.
"Wow! That's so Aa-MAZE-ing!" Petra exclaims, make ng it hard not to laugh even with the impending doom.
"Everyone onto the bardge!" Ivor shouts.
He looks to me.
"Jessie! Use flint and steel to get it started!" Ivor shouts.
I nod, but I have something better.
My lighter.
I pull it out and let the flame hit the machine.
It bursts into life and begins moving towards the cliff.
Let's hope Ivor didn't build this crappily.
Everyone else is in the two bardges, leaving me with the hoard.
"Jessie! Jump I'll catch you!" Petra shouts.
The flying machine is about to leave the platform.
I look back and shiver.
"I trust you!" I shout, running forward.
I leap forward, putting my hands out for Petra to take hold of.
She catches me just in time, pulling me onto the bardge.
It was me her and Olivia on this one, with Soren Ivor and Gabreil on the other.
But Petra and I just stare at each other.
"Thanks." I breathe, looking back to see the zombies clumsily walking off the edge.
She nods.
"Anything for you." She whispers so quietly that o almost missed it.
What was that supposed to mean?
....
Why are they so clueless!?!? Anyway I hope you liked the chapter and I'll see you all soon!
