Chapter 20

Petra's POV

The entire conversation I just heard leaves my head spinning.

So she was sick.

With Wither Sickness.

I feel somehow responsible for that.

But the other part, that's what makes my head spin.

Not from this world?

What could that possibly mean?

"Look Jesse. I know how you can get back home. But you need to let me go." Ivor growls, making Jesse scoff.

"Yeah right. Besides, if I want to get back home, I'm not getting any help from you." She hisses.

The amount of hate and desperation in her voice.

It didn't sound right on her.

It sounded almost alien.

"You're so desperate to get home that you don't even realize the one way to get there." He growls, making my throat tighten.

Would she leave m-us just like that?

Even with all she's hidden, I find part of me torn at the thought of her leaving.

"Oh. Maybe you don't want to leave." Ivor sneers.

I peek around the block, seeing Jesse almost drop her sword.

"No. I promised my brother I would get him back home. And I'm not going to let him stay here." She growls, the statement hitting me hard.

What's wrong with here?

Again, Ivor scoffs.

"You want a fight girl, you'll get one. But you and I both know you're too weak to fight me." He growls, making my eyes blaze.

I draw my sword, jumping in front of the door.

"You aren't going anywhere." I hiss.

Jesse turns, eyes widening in fear.

"Did you hear all that?" She says breathlessly.

I ignore the remark, seeing Ivor running at her while she is distracted.

"Jesse! Duck!" I shout, making her lean back.

The golden sword goes right over her head, leading Ivor straight to me.

I swing my sword, hitting him hard.

He spirals across the room, pushing himself up.

"Come on Jesse. Petra. Couldn't we work something out here?" He asks, sounding desperate.

But I wasn't in the mood for taking his crap.

And it didn't look like Jesse was either.

"You've made your bed Ivor. Now you have to lay in it." Jesse growls.

The statement sounds weird to me but I let it go.

"So stay and fight. You can't be a coward and run away this time." Petra growls.

Ivor's laugh fills the space.

It isn't a normal laugh.

Its one that makes my stomach turn and my ears want to bleed.

"You won't stop me!" He laughs, taking out a splash potion.

Jesse looks as confused as me.

"Just out if curiosity, ever seen the effects of a potion of slowness?" He asks, making the two of us share a look.

Next thing we know he smashes the bottle to the ground, making our every movement slow.

"What. Are. You. Talking. About?" Jesse says, her voice slowed.

He walks right by us, making us slowly run towards the secret door.

"You won't get away with this!" Jesse shouts just before the door closes.

She stops, slowly slamming her fist on the books.

The potion wears off and she rests her head on the wall, looking defeated.

"Jesse?" I say finally, so glad to have my voice normal.

She turns around, looking like she has no clue what I'm about to do.

Neither am I to be honest.

"I need to know. What did that all mean? Where are you really from?" I ask, hearing a slightly angry edge enter my voice.

I didn't like people lieing to me.

She sighs, walking past me to sit against the andestite table.

"Petra... I...." She covers her face as another fit of coughing comes over her.

Fear fills me.

"Jesse. Relax. Please. I just want the truth." I say, sitting down next to her.

Jesse thinks that over.

"Fine. You want the truth? Just don't think I'm insane." She grumbles.

I try not to take offense to her attitude.

"When you found me and Reuben in the forest, we had just woken up in your world." She starts, making me slightly confused.

"We came from a world where your world is a video game." She explains, making me confused.

I got game, not video though.

"What?" I ask, making her sigh.

"A video game is something you play on something like this." She states, pulling out the weird slab from before.

I think she called it a pone?

No that's not it.

She opens up one of the squares, only to make my eyes widen.

Moving pictures show the words Minecraft Story Mode.

"You, Axle, Olivia, Lukas, everyone here, is from this game." She states, making my head spin.

"So... I'm not..." I trail off, staring at my hands.

If in her world I'm just some character in a game....

"Not real?" I squeak, not even caring that Jesse hears it.

She shakes her head.

"Maybe in my world you're just a character, but in this world you are someone special, someone who lives and breathes." Jesse says, trying to rub my back in reassurance.

I pull away from her.

"How did you even get here!?" I shout angrily, making her look down at her feet.

Something inside me feels terrible about that, but I couldn't hold it in.

I needed to yell at her.

"I still don't know. I had only just bought the game and I was about to play it. Then I fainted and showed up in the forest. Same with Reuben." She says sadly.

I feel so betrayed by her right now.

My heart burns with anger, but I can't find it in me to take it out in her.

"Why didn't you just take Ivor's offer? You know, to just leave and go home?" I ask finally, making her look down at her hands.

Its obvious that she is internally having a more difficult battle than the one against the Storm.

"I don't know. Since I got here I've wanted to get home. That's been my goal." She says, making my heart drop.

"But then I met you," she pauses, making me confused before she continues with, "and the others."

For a second I thought she wanted to just say me.

But that couldn't be right.

"So what changed?" I ask, making her look down.

"I started to feel like I belonged here with you and your friends. But I knew I needed to get home. For Reuben." She states.

I couldn't help but feel admiration for her rise in myself slightly.

Even with her doubts she is doing this for her brother.

"Jesse. I.." I trail.

I'm not exactly sure how to put this.

I was never really one for words, more just go.

But this needed words.

"You do belong here." I say in a whisper, making her look up in surprise.

She walks over to me, but I guess neither if us realized just how close.

"I'm not sure I do Petra. I mean, if the Order can see right through me before I even speak to them, how will the rest of the world feel?" She mutters, looking on the verge of tears.

I've never really become close enough to anyone to see them like this, but I just let my mind take over.

My arms wrap around her, letting her cry into my shoulder.

All of this was hitting both of us like falling gravel.

"Hey, its okay. We don't have to tell anyone. Just me." I whisper, snuggling my face into her hair.

I hear a long sigh come from her, and then we pull away.

A pang fills me.

Did I not want her to back away?

"Thanks Petra. But with my luck I'll get killed by this before then." She mutters, lifting the side if her red shirt from between her overalls.

A large purple mark appears there, making my breath catch in my throat.

"Jesse, if its the last thing I do I will lmake sure you live through this battle." I state, sounding a little over protective.

She smiles lightly.

"Same to you." She states, making my heart swell.

Why did Jesse suddenly make me feel weird?

I mean come on. I've only known her for like three days or a little more.

I can't feel anything for her that fast right?

I shake it away, needing to get away from my thoughts.

"Alright Jesse. We need to find a way out if here." I state, changing the subject.

She nods, looking around the room.

There were no inside panels, meaning that we couldn't just follow Ivor out.

Jesse pulls out the amulet, almost like she is trying to get a signal.

A white light glows from the pendant, making both of us smile brightly.

She walks around the room until we find where it glows brightest.

Which is by four block and andestite on the floor surrounded by regular cobblestone.

"Well, let's get digging." She states with a scratchy voice.

I nod, helping her as we dig down as fast as we can.

Though once we find the opening, there is no light.

"Jesse? What do you see?" I call from a few blocks up.

Without an answer she jumps down.

"Crap." I mutter, jumping after her.

....

Hey guys! Sort of a cliff hanger although you know what's to come.

Or do you?

This story is changing everything after all.

I hope you nehoyed!
