You know, those Books that inspired me to WRITE?
Aug. 31, 2014
I promised myself that one of these days I would arrange my ebooks (e.g. create folders for YA, Vampire novels and such). But I was getting kinda lazy these past few days. And I also got side tracked by reading too many Wattpad books. And I tell you there are tons of undiscovered gems and good reads hidden beneath the massive waves of books being published every minute and every day in that wonderful world we know as Wattpad. I love Wattpad. Who doesn’t? And I’m not saying this because I want to be chummy with Mr Allen Lau and Mr Ivan Yuen. Those guys were genius for creating Wattpad! Thank you thank you kind sirs! I might have discovered Wattpad’s greatness a little late –I am a registered user over a year now but it was a year later when I found out what it was really for. Excuse my ignorance.
So like I said, there are tons of wonderful books in Wattpad and I am currently reading some of it and hopefully one of these days I could come up with a list to share with you guys those books that I absolutely adore. I am fairly new to Wattpad so I have only finished reading a handful of complete books. Can you guess what those are? They are pretty popular in the Philippines ;) I promise that once I’ve finished all the books that are lined up in my private library, I’ll share with you what those are.
I know, I know. I write a very long introduction. So what is this entry all about? I’ve said before that this –uh –page is a sort of my diary. I have this weird need to write down whatever crosses my mind. So while I was contemplating if I should sort out my ebooks or not, I remembered mentioning in my previous entry that one of the reasons why I might follow you in Awesome Wattpad is because of our same interest (and obsession) with books. And no matter how bizarre it may seem, books connects people. So I will be sharing those books that I have read and loved.
NOTE: I am not promoting these books and their authors. I mean, they are already popular in their own right, hello. I am merely sharing my thoughts about these published books.
Yes, I know I’m chatty; always beating around the bush and all. But just give me a couple of few sentences before I begin. I have a difficulty expressing this in English so tatagalugin ko na lang. Hindi po ako yung tipong maraming alam tungkol sa mga libro, yung tipong –alam niyo yun? –yung maka Shakespeare o ‘di kaya yung mga educated sa classics. Gets niyo? I am a simple person with simple tastes in books. I will not also give full details of each books because I don’t want to make this a very long entry. If you want to know about the books synopsis and reviews, Google it ;)
Okay. Let’s talk about books per genre:
1. VAMPIRE: why make vampire genre number one? And why separate it from Paranormal? Because I find vampires hot. HAHAHA. No seriously, because I have read a lot of vampire novels compared to other genre of books. So I'd included both the YA vampire and Adult vampire novel. Although I have seen the movie of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, I haven’t read that so I cannot include it. But I read somewhere that it was his ‘idea’ of vampire that provided the basis of today's legends about vampires. (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire)
When it comes to vampires and their history, I like the idea of Anne Rice’s and how she showed their history. I’ve read the Interview With a Vampire but I like the second and the third book better, the Vampire Lestat and the Queen of the Damned because, well, I like Lestat. Told you I have simple tastes in books. LOL. During my boring off days, I have come across the novel The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by JR Ward. The title was really catchy. And I tell you, those vampires are really –ehem –smokin’ HOT. Along the YA vampire genre, this will be quite difficult. I have read a lot, but if I would pick one which really stood out for me (most of you might not agree with my choice, I understand) I would say it has to be BLUE BLOOD series by Melissa dela Cruz. I liked her idea of vampires –they were actually fallen angels forced to live on earth as vampires because they sided with Lucifer during a war in heaven. How’s that idea for a vampire?
2. YOUNG ADULT: I guess I’ll include all sub genres like dystopian, paranormal, fantasy. Now, who among you doesn’t know Harry Potter, eh? J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter introduced me to a world of YA fantasy where spells like ALOHAMORA, LUMOS and WINGGUARDIUM LEVIOSA are just the normal, regular enchantments uttered by wizards and witches every day in their life. It’s as normal as doing the laundry! Via spells of course. Another book that I loved is the Hunger Games series by Suzzane Collins. I also like the novel of Kierra Cass’ The Selection series. And I never doubted America will end up with Prince Maxon! Ooops! You did not hear that from me ;) I’m currently reading Kresley Cole’s The Arcana Chronicles first book Poison Princess and I find it very interesting and promising.
3. PARANORMAL/URBANFANTASY/FANTASY/ALIENS and throw in all genres that includes wolves, elves, Valkyries, fairies, aliens (aliens? Seriously?) that is 80% romance and 20% adventure: Okaaaay. This might be quite long so sit down and grab some popcorn. I might have mentioned in my previous entry that I worship the grounds where Kresley Cole walks upon. That goddess, she’s a genius. She wrote the Immortals After Dark series where she created this world called the Lore where immortals roam the earth and we mere mortals are oblivious of their existence. Sigh! I want to be part of the Lore. Can I be a Valkyrie? LOL. Other books I enjoy are those written by Kristen Ashley, the Fantasyland series where all the female protagonists in her books travels to a parallel earth and their twin from the parallel earth goes to our own world. Complicated to understand? Just read her book ;) I also like Katherine Kennedy’s the Elven Lords series. And the Aliens part? You think I’m talking sci-fi? Not quite. I was really surprise with how Michelle Pillow’s book the Dragon Lords series turned out. The books are basically about a chick going to outer space, somehow finds herself on a ship called Galaxy Bride, was forced to parade around a queue of half-naked men who lived in a Y coordinate planet called Qurilixen and waits to be chosen by these half-naked dudes as their bride. And these Qurilixen men are, I supposed, are considered as aliens. I didn’t want to read it at first, mainly because I’m not really into aliens and stuff like that and thinking that a human-alien Viking-like barbarians romance will never work. But boy was I wrong. It turned out quite an interesting read after all. Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series were also a nice read. I have mixed feelings over the Fae Chronicles series by Amelia Hutchins mainly because of how the female protagonist acts on the first part of the book. But eventually she grew on me.
4. HISTORICAL ROMANCE: My favorite genre. Previously, I mentioned that I hail Judith Mcnaught as my queen. And really, I love her HR novels. I bought all her HR books –I am that crazy over her books. Notice the way I highlighted her name instead of naming her books? That’s because I want you to Google her name and see for yourself her list of books. But I guess my favorite would have to be Something Wonderful and Until You. I also enjoy reading all of Johanna Lindsey’s novels. I also like Anne Stuart’s House of Rohan series, novels of Julia Quinn, Sarah Maclean’s Rules of Scoundrels to name a few. I also admire the way Sophie Jordan writes her HR novels.
5. CHIKLIT/CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE/ROMANCE: I enjoyed reading Sophie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic. With the way she wrote it, I felt like I AM BECKY BLOOMWOOD. I also like her other book Can You Keep A Secret. Of course, Judith Mcnaught is still present in my favorites among contemporary romance writers. Again, notice how I highlight her name. Okay, now tell me, who doesn’t know who Nicholas Sparks is? I bet you have READ his book and WATCHED the movie version. My favorite of all would have to be A Walk To Remember. I read it again and again and again… Still brought tears to my eyes. I have a confession to make. This is embarrassing, really, but here goes: I still haven’t read John Green’s The Fault in our Stars. I’m sorry. I’ve been meaning to read it. Honest. I’m just waiting for all the hype to lay low. And if I know that a book is a tearjerker, I have to muster enough courage before reading it. Just like what I did with A Walk to Remember. Because I know I will feel that twinge of pain in my heart after reading the book and I am a coward to face that pain. I’m so sorry :(
6. BOOKS I DON’T KNOW WHICH GENRE BELONGS –sorry for my ignorance –SO PLEASE HELP ME SORT THEM OUT/AND BOOKS I WILL INCLUDE HERE SINCE I ONLY HAVE ONE PAGE REMAINING TO WRITE THIS ENTRY: Who doesn’t know Dan Brown? Who doesn’t know Sydney Sheldon? Who doesn’t know Paulo Coelho? Who doesn’t know Stephen King? If you are among the 2% who doesn’t, please Google them. Their books are a must read. I just have to make kwento about this. I remembered having nightmares after I read IT by Stephen King. I hate clowns; they’re scary. Blame it on Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark series. And IT took a form of a crazy killer clown. I hate clowns. Did I mention I hate clowns? No offense to the clowns.
Anne of Green Gables, The Count of Monte Cristo, A Little Princess, Peter Pan (and throw in the Fairy Tales books because I still read them, LOL).These are also books I cherished and loved.
So these are the names of books I have read and liked and the names of authors I admire. Like I said, I’m just a simple girl with simple tastes in books. I am not an expert with books –I just like to read.
And I also promise I’ll try to finish with my list of personal favorite books in Wattpad. And did I mention how awesome Wattpad is? ;)
Pinkangel2127 Over and Out.
NOTE: Again, I am in no way promoting these books. I might have hinted a few Google this and that, but most of it was intended as a joke ;)
A/N: Hey Guys! Speaking of books... Ito, seryosong recommendation. Due to Wattpad's awesomenss, I have met lots of wonderful people. One of them is a new friend MissTotalPretender. She also likes writting, just like you and me, and I think her profile deserves a visit. Also, do check her story: My Schoolmate Sweetheart. You might like it. I know I did ;)
