I am an obsessed person. It’s a sickness. I need professional help. No, just kidding.

One of my obsessions is learning new words. Whenever I learned a new word, or two, it felt like I just found a pot of gold! I don’t know –I just feel this kind of rush and excitement in me.

Magnanimous. It’s a common enough word but we, Filipinos, seldom use. Why? Perhaps because it is too long to pronounce, or there is a shorter simplier synonym for MAGNANIMOUS. But wouldn’t it be nice to use new words from time to time?

I remember Senator Miriam Santiago on one of her privileged speech. She was my idol. She was my queen of words. She just wittily insulted one person by calling him “anonymous little insect”. Three simple words, used together and you have a very colorful sentence. Now, for today, I’d like to talk about my favorite word of the day. Said word I encoundtered when I was watching Clueless.

So to define MAGNANIMOUS, according to oxforddictionaries.com, the word is an adjective that means very generous or forgiving, especially toward a rival or someone less powerful than oneself.

Use magnanimous in a sentence/dialogue:

Example number 1:

Enrique Gil: I am so sorry, Pinkange. I really am. Honest! It won’t happen again. I will not eat your chocolates without your permission.

Pinkangel: Well, since I am in a magnanimous mood, you’re off the hook. (Forgiving mood)

Example number 2:

Daniel Padilla: I just donated a box of clothes for the victim of the previous calamity.

Pinkangel: Is that so? You are so magnanimous! (Generous)

Example number 3:

Through Pinkangel’s magnanimous gesture towards world domination, the world became a better palce to live. (Nyahaha! This one is just a joke. I used magnanimous to replace generous. Generous could mean showing kindness or giving something in a large/lavish/plentiful of something usually money or time.)

So there you go. MAGNANIMOUS. Oooh! Lemme repeat that. MAGNANIMOUS. Hahaha.
