Chapter Eighteen

Before Heather's wedding that day, Eros, Kristine and I sat in the car, waiting for Lucy.

"She'll be late. She's the bride's sis-," Kristine was interrupted in between just as Lucy came of out the door.

I gasped. She had worn a blue saree, and a smile. It was breath-taking. Her black hair was let down behind her back, and I couldn't take my eyes off her.She looked beautiful. She came and sat on the passenger seat, and smiled at us.

"I'm sorry I'm late," she apologised.

"No, you're beautiful," Blake replied.

Kristine and Eros burst out laughing. Blake shot them a look.

"Thank you," Lucy chuckled.

"You look simply amazing, Lucy," Kristine said, her eyes widened.

"Absolutely," Eros said, nodding.

She smiled gratefully. "Thank you".

"Never seen something as beautiful as you and I'm not bluffing," I continued.

"Ahem ahem," Kristine said from behind.

Lucy turned to her . "Will you stop that?"

"Not until I'm buried into my grave," Kristine smirked.

Lucy sighed. "Let's go"  and I pushed the accelerator.

We waited at the entrance for the groom's family to arrive. Everyone looked out, anticipated, waiting impatiently. Just then, we heard music and the sound of drums. "THEY'RE HERE!," everyone shouted, moving here and there. Some went upstairs to inform Heather.

The groom had  arrived, sitting on a horse. Loud drums and saxophones played, as people danced in front of the groom. Fireworks burst in the sky and the atmosphere was filled with joy.

Lucy was standing beside me, a sad smile spread across her beautiful face. I gave her shoulders a light squeeze and she looked up at me.

"It's going to be okay,"I assured. She nodded.

Heather sat down with David, in front of the fire. They completed the rituals one by one. Taking turns around the fire, wearing the garlands. Lucy looked at Heather all the time, probably re-living all the moments she'd spent with her dear sister.

After all the rituals were over, everyone went out for the final ritual. The leaving of Heather.

They cried uncontrollably. Heather hugged Mr and Mrs Goodwin , as streams of tears dropped from each one's eyes. I was standing next to Lucy, looking at her sadly, as she cried for her sister. Heather hugged her, and said as she sobbed.

"Study well, okay? And take care. I'll miss you, Lucy. I really will. I love you,". Lucy nodded unable to speak.

Heather patted me on my head and forced a smile. "Take care, Blake," she said, as everyone bid her farewell. We watched her leave, until she was out of sight. Lucy still cried, and I hated to see her like that.

"Take her, Blake", Kristine said. I held her hand, as she walked silently beside me.

We sat down beside each other, on the grass. Lucy had stopped crying now, but I could feel the sadness alight within her.

"I'll miss her Blake. I love her," she said, shifting closer to me, and placing her head on my shoulder. I hugged her, as we stared at the sky, silently. Her face looked alluring, enchanting in the moonlight.

"Lucy?," I said. She looked at me. I reeled momentarily, lost in her eyes. She waited, patiently.

"I love you," I blurted out. She looked at me in surprise, her eyes widened. I took a deep breath.

"I love you, Lucy. I guess I've loved you from the time I've met you. It look me seven years to realize it , but not anymore. You're the best person I could ever meet, Lucy. You don't know what effects you have on me, you just don't. I'm glad I've got you, I really am. You're beautiful. And I've always told you that, meaning it every time. You make my day, Lucy. Meeting you is like a dream, a beautiful dream I don't wish to wake up from. I can't imagine my life without you, Lucy. You make my life meaningful, you make it beautiful. You're radiant , you're magical. And I love you, okay? Thank you for coming into my life, thank you for being with me. You were like a sailor to a lost ship like me in a violent storm. Like the sunlight my flower needed to grow, like the hands which needed to guide me, like rain to my dry, parched land. You are deeper than the sea, Lucy and I am so glad I drowned because the world here is so magnificent, blue and beautiful. Just stay with me, Lucy. Promise me you will?

You have no idea what you do to me. Look at things from your eyes, and then look at them from mine. You'll see them differently. You cannot be explained of words alone, Lucy. You're far more special. Thank you for everything, you do to me," I said, slowly  "You're the brightest star in my dark sky and, I love you", I ended.

Lucy looked at me , her lips relaxed in a contented smile.

"Blake?," she said.

I looked at her.

"I love you. I really do," she said, laughing.

I felt it couldn't get any better. But as they say, when you think it can't get any better, believe me, it can.

"Blake, will you be my boyfriend?," she said, grinning.

I laughed. "Of course".
