Chapter Eight

Walking across the street and standing in front of  Blake's house, I rang the bell. Even though it had been quiet a long time since Blake and I knew each other, I hadn't visited his place thinking perhaps the Halters weren't yet settled. But today was the day.

Mrs.Halter opened the door with a warm smile.

"Hey sweetheart, welcome," she said, opening the door wide for me.

"Thank you,"I smiled, looking around. The house was decorated beautifully.

A big flower vase was placed on the dinning table, blue chairs, and dark blue couches matched the colour of the walls. Paintings and photos were hung on the walls. Blake and family.  They sure were rich people.

"Blake's having a bath, you could wait in his room if you like,"Mrs. Halter said.

I nodded. She took me to his room, and I sat down on his bed.

"I'll get you something to eat," she added, departing the room.

I looked around, waiting for Blake. Now, I could see his room better . Better than the window of my room  at least.  Posters of sports and sports celebrities were stuck on the wall.

I got up from the bed and walked around the room, analysing each detail. His wardrobe was open, displaying sets of t-shirts on hangers, and jeans neatly piled beneath them. His room was very clean. Very clean for a boy indeed.

Then, something caught my eye. I went closer towards his study table. Our picture. Our picture of the prom night was pinned up on the soft board.  Beneath it, a paper read:

"Our first prom night"

I smiled looking at it and remembering the beautiful night.

  Then, the bathroom door opened.

Blake came out of the bathroom, looking exceedingly gorgeous. His blonde hair was wet, water droplets still on his face. He wore a white shirt and blue jeans. He looked at me in surprise.

"Hey,"I said, smiling.

He walked towards me. "Hey".

" I just wanted to thank you for the gift. It was so beautiful. I loved it. Thank you so much ," I looked  at the pendant that  Blake had  given  me.

His eyes lit up when he saw that I'd worn it.
Then, he wrapped his arms around me. I did not expect this, I was taken back by surprise. However, I softened, and hugged him back, as his fresh smell filled my nostrils. It was so comforting.

"Thank you so much for wearing it  ", he said, looking at me affectionately.

I smiled at him. Of course I'd wear it, Blake.

"By the way, I saw that," I said, pointing towards the picture pinned up on the study. He chuckled to himself.

"It was one of the best day of my life, Lucy ," he said, watching the picture, possibly re-living the moment.

Kristine sat beside me, pulling a chair and eyeing the paper I was writing on. "What are you doing?,"she asked.

" I'm just finishing the Essay," I  informed.

"What essay?"

"The one we had for our holiday homework"

"WE HAD A HOLIDAY HOMEWORK?"

 "Good morning,"I added sarcastically.

"Whatever. Now write an essay on this," she said, taking the pen from my hand.

"How Lucy fell for Blake," she wrote on the top of my paper, in big, capital letters. I watched her in disbelief.

Just then, Blake entered. We both jumped.

"Hey," he said, watching us in amusement as he chuckled.

"Hey," I said.

"Heya Blake," Kristine said.

"what are you girls doing?," he asked, digging his hands inside his pocket.

"I'm just watching Lucy write her essay," she said.

" What essay? ,"he asked.

"The one we had for holiday homework," Kristine replied.

"We had a holiday homework?!"

"See? I'm not the only one who doesn't know about it," Kristine said, looking at me. I made a face.

Blake leaned and glanced at the page. "Interesting topic ," he grinned.

Oh God. "How Lucy fell for Blake"

"oh no--," I  began

"Oh yeah,"Kristine said, laughing.

"Shut up! ," I said, punching Kristine.

Blake laughed, loudly.

"let's go out!," Kristine suggested, after a while.

"Okay,"Blake and I said in unison.

After roaming about for practically two hours, we sat on the grass, staring at the beautiful sky. The sun set into the horizon. I loved the sunset colours. The oranges, the soft pinks, the cranberry reds, the light yellows.

" I'd better leave now," Kristine said, getting up.

"bye, Kristine,"I said.

"Fare ye well," Blake laughed.

I laid down on the soft, moist, green grass.Blake lay down beside me.

"Lucy?," he whispered.

"Yes?"

"Would you be my best friend? "

I looked at him in surprise. Then I shifted towards him.

"I thought we already were," I said softly, holding his hand, head to head.

I'm never alone with you. With you, I'm happy. With you, I'm strong. We're endless together.

They smiled at one another.
As the sun set, and the night arrived, they knew, a new relationship has begun. An unbreakable bond between them. An invincible friendship.
