1 | two different worlds

"I wish you were never born!"

Jaehyun never understood those words but he kept hearing that exact same phrase from a lady ever since he was a child. Tears kept falling like a waterfall from the lady's eyes but little Jaehyun never knew why. She was a stranger to him. Not wanting Jaehyun to see her as his mother.

Jaehyun never felt like he has anyone in his life.

For as long as he could remember, he grew up in a building. Not too big, not too small--it was just right for two people. It was never called a home for the both of them. The little boy never had a good memory from it; generally, he never had good memories in his whole childhood. The lady doesn't care about him and barely looks at him.

The boy grew up feeling very empty.

But Jaehyun was a curious kid. He was happy about his little artwork, a drawing of him and the lady. Even though the lady never treated him like he existed, he somehow treated her as a quiet companion. The little boy ran out of his bedroom and went to find the lady, who was by their little living room. Bottles of alcohol were scattered and the smell of tobacco was in the air but Jaehyun was too innocent to know about them.

Jaehyun never knew how to address her so he hesitated and just thought of tapping his finger on the lady's shoulder. But it wasn't the best idea.

"Who told you to touch me?!" she suddenly shouted at the little boy.

The little boy took a step back but the lady tightly gripped on the poor boy's skinny arm and roughly pulled him back. The boy started crying from the pain. The lady clenched her jaw and her eyes started getting teary.

"If I wasn't stupid enough and didn't hesitate to drop you, I wouldn't be this miserable! You took everything away from me! I wish you were never born!"

The lady grabbed a bottle and smashed the butt against the wall, making several pieces of glasses litter around the floor. The little boy cried when the sharp part of the bottle was held close to his face.

"No one will ever love you--"

"Sister, what are you doing?! Let go of him!"

Jaehyun was pulled away from the drunk lady. He cried and felt really traumatized from what he just experienced. The little boy was carried and the other lady, who suddenly came into the house, because of the loud ruckus, tried to calm him down. She whispered sweet words and rubbed the boy's small back to make him stop.

The drunk lady looked at her hand, holding the broken bottle. She immediately threw it, like she got afraid of herself. Tears flowed through her eyes. She couldn't believe she did something like that to her son.

"Please let me take care of Jaehyun because, obviously, you can't with that kind of state."

Jaehyun was then adopted by the lady's sister who, fortunately, took care of him but the little boy was far too traumatized that he rejected the caring lady for a long time. But when he was able to understand that she just wants to help him, Jaehyun then started accepted and treated her as someone very special to him.

He was enrolled in schools by her and met many children who played and enjoyed being with him.

Even after that, Jaehyun grew up feeling empty and anxious.

At a young age, he started rejecting people. Every time someone will hold his wrist or arm, he would immediately pull himself back then he stay away from them. He would even cry when someone is holding something up high or just simply wants to give him a high-five. Jaehyun somehow portrayed those actions of the lady who almost took his life.

Jaehyun started to build up walls around him.

"Yongie, where are you?"

The little boy, named Taeyong, quietly chuckled under the bed. He was watching his sister's feet walking around the room he was in. Taeyong stayed still and anticipated. He thought he would've won the hide-and-seek game but his older sister bended down and surprised him.

"There you are, Yongie!"

Taeyong giggled as he was pulled out of the bed by his sister before the eldest hugged her younger brother.

"Kids, come down! Sandwiches are ready!" their mother called.

The elder sister carried her brother and she walked down the stairs. They saw their mother placing down a plate with a sweet small smile on her face. Taeyong was placed down and went to grab a sandwich on the plate. His mother combed her hand through Taeyong's hair as she walked back into the kitchen.

Taeyong lives in a household that was filled with love and happiness. His parents took care and gave both siblings the love they deserve. He was also loved by many people. The little boy looked like a prince in a fictional book.

Suddenly, tiny barks were heard as a puppy ran down towards Taeyong.

"Ruby-ah, you're awake already?" the little boy asked.

The puppy's tail was wiggling and has her eyes on the sandwich Taeyong was holding. The little boy teared the sandwich in half and kindly gave the other to the puppy who took it happily. Ruby went down and ate the food on the floor.

"You're welcome," Taeyong uttered with a big smile and took a big bite on his food.

It was night time and Taeyong was getting ready for bed. His mother helped him with it before both of them went to the little boy's bedroom. Taeyong was dressed in cute pajamas and placed ontop of his bed. His mother grabbed a chair from the corner of the room after she picked a story book from the bookshelf nearby.

The mother tucked her son to bed before she opened the book, but they looked at the door when they heard it creaked.

"Is my little prince going to bed?"

Taeyong excitingly sat and wrapped his arms around his father's neck to hug him.

"Mommy will read me a story," Taeyong uttered.

His father nodded with a smile on his face, "Okay. I'll let you sleep then. Good night, Yongie," then placed a kiss on top of the boy's head.

"Good night, daddy," the little boy greeted.

The father quietly walked out of the room before the mother started reading the book she has on her hands. Taeyong listened intently and didn't even fall asleep from it. He was a kid who listens and waits until it's finished. He would even ask questions after. His mother never thought his son would be a bright kid.

"Mommy, can sadness be passed to people?" the smart little boy asked.

His mother combed his hair, "No. But happiness can."

Taeyong hummed.

"Taeyong, you are loved by many people. You are loved by your family and, there was and will be no day that we'll stop loving both of you and your sister. I will do everything to make you happiness and so, will the people around you."

The little boy looked back at his mother who placed a kiss on his forehead.

"I hope that someday, at the right time, you will be the reason for a person's happiness."
