Shall We Dance?
'Wait, nooooo", Sabrina yelled at the TV as a contestant lost the mirror ball. Sabrina dropped her popcorn. "Crap." She started to crawl around on the floor, picking up the popcorn.
As the cheering blasted from the TV, she couldn't help but think of a time when she might be up there. Dancing with all the big stars. Maybe even winning the mirror ball.
She plopped herself down. She was finally to the most recent start of the season. The temptation was strong, but she knew she shouldn't start.
"Just the first episode." She clicked on it and swayed to the beat as the intro played. As she settled in she grabbed the bag of chips that was near her. She looked at the contestants and shrugged.
As they did a close up of Hayes face she squinted. She put the popcorn and chips down and moved closer to the TV. Fumbling around for the remote she grabbed it and quickly paused it.
"Ben?" She whispered. She sat back cross legged and leaned against the couch. Sabrina was smart, and she knew something was off. Her phone was on the couch and she reached behind to grab it. Who is this guy she thought as she pressed search in Google after typing in the name.
Hayes Grier.
Up popped his birthday, family, twitter, everything you wanted to know. Bypassing it all she went straight for images. Although she did notice he was the same age.
Scrolling through tons of pictures, all she could really see was that Ben and Hayes looked a lot a like.
Her thoughts in a mess, she threw down her phone. Was he lying? Did he mess up her jeans and then try to play her? Why, though? Why?
The same word was repeated many times and every time she never had an answer. Ben. Hayes. Maybe it was just his doppelganger. I mean they do say there is like 5 to 7 people that look like you. Maybe that was it.
Pushing away the doubts she pressed play on the TV. She studied him closely. As soon as the episode ended she layed on the floor. Staring at the plain ceiling she rose.
Moving to the balcony she sighed. The night sky always helped her think. She moved to a tent like chair she had in the corner. She leaned back and looked out at the sky.
The stars twinkled, just like Ben's eyes. The beautiful deep blue that held such fun. But also.... something more. She closed her eyes and pictured him. Just him in general. His laugh. His smile. His voice. She smiled. It was beautiful.
With him as her final thought, she fell asleep. Not knowing this would happen more often.
