Prologue
She slumped down, crying into her hands. She realised she had lost the game she had created in her head.
Not to fall in love with Hayes. Which is exactly what happened. She thought he was different, and she was right. The pain she had felt though was like nothing before.
The lies. She hated being lied to. It's his fault she lost the game. Why she's crying in the bathroom when she ought to be with Hayes.
Little did she know was that Hayes was in the room across the hall in the same position as her.
He had also made up a game in his head. He had also lost.
He knew he hurt her, could see the pain etched across her face. Never has he ever hurt someone he loved so dearly so much. It was her fault he lost the game. Why he's crying in the bathroom when he ought to be with Sabrina.
Looking into a mirror they felt like they could hear each other, reach out and hold each other. Staring at their tear soaked faces in the mirrors, they whispered the same words. Words they've said before but didn't always have meaning.
I'm sorry.
Slowly she stood up. Feeling better having uttered those words. She looked like a train wreck and didn't want Hayes to see her like this. She needed to prepare for what the future held, and wanted to look good during it. Washing her face, she somehow felt more at ease. It isn't like he heard but in a way she knew he had. Putting on her makeup she thought about knowing Hayes but not really knowing him. They were only 17 but yet she felt so much more with him. Walking out of the bathroom she waited for him.
Hayes was still sitting on the floor during all this. As he finally but slowly stood up all he could think about was how she felt. During it all he had ignored his conscience and kept playing his little game. Although they were both young he couldn't help thinking that a small part of her knew the whole time. Walking to the mirror he looked at himself. His blue eyes were red from his crying. Wiping his face with a towel he was slowly starting to feel better. He slid his hand through his hair and sighed. He wanted to keep her in his future. He knew deep down she was the one. He opened the door and stepped through.
Looking at each other, they knew what the other had been through without saying a single word. They smiled at each other, knowing they had to do this together. With that in mind they grabbed each others hands. Ready to face the world.
As they walked down that hallway, the cheers getting louder, the same words ran through their heads. The words that had started it all. The words that would always mean something to them, they words they would never forget.
When Love Happens...
