~5~

"Deathbringer, I... didn't come back because I thought you had died," the NightWing said with a sorrowful look in her eyes.

She took slow steps toward them, and Deathbringer's tail tightened its hold on Glory's.

The young queen didn't a have clue of what was going on.

The only thing Deathbringer had said of his parents was that they had both passed away when he was a dragonet.

Nothing else.

So why, better yet, how, was his mother here all of a sudden?

Glory stepped up and gave Deathbringer's mother a nasty glare.

"Listen, I don't know what the blasted moons is going on here, but I do know that you can't just come to my rainforest and attack us. But if that's how you roll, then please do repeat it. I love getting knives thrown at," Glory commented with a load of sarcasm.

The other dragon, who hadn't spoken in a while, gave Glory a glare of her own.

"Oh we will. Having guns pointed at our heads with deadly venom is just so much fun. Come on Mo- Quickstrike, let's go back and do it again," she said just as sarcastically as Glory.

The queen growled loud and deep. The only one who got to throw sarcasm back at her like that was Deathbringer.

"You did not just..."

The dark dragon smirked. "Oh, I just did."

Glory wanted to rip her head off and stomp on it and then spray the rest of her with venom.

A sudden thought stopped her.

I'm thinking like Tsunami.
Grrr, I hate this.
I have to be patient and have an actual rational mind. Otherwise, I don't think I'll see the next sunrise.

Glory growled again but let her words slide. She turned to Deathbringer, who had finally quit staring at that Quickstrike dragon.

He was looking at her, and there was helplessness all over his gaze.

Glory composed her face and set it in a determined way as she squeezed Deathbringer's tail with her own.

They were both holding onto each other, knowing that if they let go, they would be lost in the world's darkness.

Glory gave Quickstrike her full attention.

"Alright then, I think we have all concluded that a nice long chat is needed. But first, you and your companion have to promise not to-"

Quickstrike let out a bark of laughter.

"There's no need for talk. I came to this stupid rainforest for one thing only. And that's him." She jerked her chin at her son.

"So, Deathbringer, let's go. We will discuss everything at home," she said and began to walk off.

Glory gaped at her and stomped her foot.

Her scales had turned a ruby red so bright and simmering, that for a second she looked even hotter than Peril.

And Deathbringer had to add the word 'literally' in his thoughts, because the readers turn almost everything into not-kid-friendly stuff.

"Oh, for the dark moons no! You will not come to this rainforest and call Deathbringer a 'thing' and then just walk off on me. So, super sorry to bother you, but he isn't going anywhere with you," Glory spat out with all the fury in her being.

Quickstrike raised an eyeridge and gave the other dragon a significant look.

"And who exactly are you? It's not every day that I hear a lazy and stupid RainWing tell me off like that," Quickstrike wondered and smiled slyly.

There was an unnerving twinkle in Quickstrike's eyes. Glory could easily tell that this dragon was very smart, and the queen's guts told her Quickstrike was analyzing her.

Before Glory could say something for herself, her bodyguard did.

"First of all, Glory is not lazy and stupid! She's intelligent, brave, and hardworking. And just so you know, she's also our queen," Deathbringer growled and it was clear to anybody that he would fight anyone who disagreed with him to death.

Quickstrike raised an eyeridge. "Ah, so you're the young queen everyone was talking about in Possibility. Not... bad."

Glory was extremely confused inside, but she had finally calmed down enough to not turn into her SeaWing sister.

She let her scales change smoothly to pitch black lined with gold before answering her... b-boyfriend's mother.

"Yes, I am Queen Glory. And under no circumstances will I have you leave without an explanation to what in Pyrh- I mean, without an explanation for your sudden presence. So, we will go to my hut and talk about this whole ordeal."

Deathbringer gave Glory a wary glance, and she understood what he wanted to say.

So she added, "And, you must promise to not hurt any of my subjects. Both, of you."

It was an eternity before the visitors said anything.

They sure like to take their time.

Quickstrike finally seemed to reluctantly nodd. "You have my word."

Quickstrike turned to the dragon that had come with her.

She looked like a hybrid, now that Glory could actually see her better.

Her scales were a very dark blue, and her neck spines had webbing in between them.

Part SeaWing I suppose... she also has some light up stripes on her forearms. I wonder what other type of dragon she is.

The hybrid sighed when Quickstrike's glare was suddenly on her.

"I... also give my word."

Glory immediately felt a giant weight leave her shoulders, and she could finally breath normally. The safety of her subjects had been a big concern since she saw the NightWing tribe acting weird.

The young queen looked up and saw no secret RainWing guards.

Did they all just leave??
I really need to work on them, maybe  invite Tsunami over again. Even if she will probably be intolerable.

Glory nodded at the two new dragons and slowly turned around to head back to the royal hut. Or at least somewhere where it wasn't easy to overhear.

She let her emerald green eyes land on Deathbringer, and his lost face told her more than what she needed to know.

This day, can probably change our lives forever.
