~2~

As it had turned out, Deathbringer had only sprained his leg.

He had whooped with victory while Glory let out a jumble of curses.

And here I was thinking that I could have gotten some time away from him. Just wonderful.

The healers had only given him some solution with a speck of frog venom to ease the pain, and then they had wrapped his leg in stiff bandages.

Glory sat in a corner the whole time, waiting for the issue of her bodyguard to be over.

When they were finished, the queen wanted to groan with humiliation when Deathbringer winked at the female RainWing who was attending his leg.

But, then she realized that it wasn't humiliation that made her feel like she should crawl in a hole and never come out.

No, this emotion was different. In fact, it was quite alien to her.

Could it be jealousy?

Oh great, the girlfriend thing is getting on my nerves now. Why did I ever accept to go on that stupid date with him?

Glory glared at Deathbringer and quickly walked out of the hut before her scales could betray her thoughts.

Just breathe in, breathe out. There, he can't know why I walked out. He'll never stop making fun of me for it.

Glory let her scales blend in with all the different shades of green around her, it was when she camouflaged to her environment that she felt most relaxed.

The queen closed her eyes and relished the sense of peace that washed over her, but then she  gave the nastiest glare to the dragon who had interrupted her peaceful moment of solitude.

"You know you don't have to be jealous, my queen. My heart shall forever belong to you, even when we are the oldest of dragons, and our great-great dragonets run around our feet while we tell them stories of the olden days. And of course, your heart belongs to me, for who can resist the charm of this," he wiggled his eyeridges and gave her one of his smuggest looks yet.

Glory couldn't help the flicker of amusement that shone in her eyes at his words, nor the light pink creeping up her talons at the thought of dragonets with Deathbringer.

"Don't flatter yourself, Deathbringer," she retorted, "I just wanted some fresh air, and even if I was jealous, it would have been your fault."

Deathbringer clutched his chest and looked at her with mock horror.

"Please explain, your majesty, for how could I ever make my own girlfriend walk out on me?"

Glory narrowed her eyes and let the ruby red shade of furious scales overtake the calm green ones.

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe flirting with other dragons would be a good start. And if it's a breakup you want, then feel free to go and kiss a random RainWing," she replied with cool sarcasm.

Deathbringer merely chuckled at her and limped to where she was. The NightWing bodyguard wrapped a wing around her but took it off when he noticed her flinch.

He sighed but have his queen a brilliant smile.

I wish I could tell him I didn't mean it, that I still want to move away when even Clay brushes his wing with mine, or even Sunny.

Maybe I can...

Glory rubbed the top of her head under his chin and gently smiled at him, wanting to make him understand that she didn't mean for her actions to hurt. Or her words for that matter.

"Can you fly for a bit? I need to go to the village and I don't want to leave you here," she said, not looking at him.

Deathbringer's eyes lit up with mischief and he flexed his wings.

"Well, duh. I'd do anything for my queen, who now I know can't stand the thought of being without me," he teased.

Glory's previous angry mood returned and she huffed with indignation.

"Stop saying things I didn't mean! All I meant was that I didn't want you to go off and-and," she trailed off, not wanting to finish the sentence in disaster.

Deathbringer smirked and raised an eyeridge.

Glory fumed and was a feather's width from spraying venom on his stupid face.

"I didn't want you to go off and torture the next poor soul who got the, oh so great pleasure of babysitting you. Now, are you going with me or not," the queen managed to growl.

Deathbringer grinned in his own smug way and opened his wings wide, a gesture that said, yes, I'm coming with you.

Glory frowned and groaned when she realized what he had done.

He keeps making me use sarcasm against myself! Stupid bet, I should've lowered it to one guard instead of two for every sarcastic comment.

I should tear him to pieces right now!!

The queen roared and turned her blazing eyes to Deathbringer.

"You really need to stop that! One day someone is going to find your body covered in venom and your guts spilling on the floor!" Glory snarled.

Deathbringer only shrugged off her
fury and smirked.

"Doubt it, I'm too good to die by the talons of my own girlfriend. Besides, that sounds more like something Tsunami would say," he laughed.

"How DARE you compare me to that spoiled SeaWing princess!" Glory yelled at him.

The NightWing bodyguard only laughed harder and wiped a tear from his eye.

"Well, you grew up together, and you have to admit that sometimes you two are pretty alike," he said.

Glory sucked in a deep breath and took off from the platform faster than Deathbringer could say 'killer pineapples'.
