Chapter 2.9.5: Longing - Takumi
Me: Alright, this is going to be the last part. FINALLY!
Takumi: *relieved* Finally.
Me: Yep. Finally that I don't have to cope up with your puzzling countenance.
Takumi: Excuse me? You were the one who started this.
Me: Blame yourself— Oh shoot! I'm just kidding! *sweatdrops*
Takumi: I'll keep quiet for now. *leaves*
Me: Why does everyone blame him again? *facepalms* This is the fluffy part! There is going to be a little bit of sibling moment. Hope you guys don't mind. Also, this is the longest part so read at your own risk. Enjoy!
..~*~..
There wasn't a time when Takumi doesn't long for the presence of the (h/c) haired warrior. Every single day and night, he longed for her gentle voice that seem to never fail calming his nerves; he longed for her sweet embraces that were once friendly but now quite contrary to what he is feeling right now; he longed for her presence that was once a nuisance for him but now learning how he actually can't live without her— it's a longing he so much desired to the point he barely focuses on anything without remembering her.
It's been always like that. She remaining deep in his mind-- like that of a fire in the hearth of a fireplace, unable to be extinguished no matter what you throw. Like those moments and memories he shared with the warrior, no matter how hard his siblings tried to keep his mind off of her— heck, even how many times they threw responsibilities or duties at him, his longing for her could never be surpassed.
He did everything in all he can just to keep himself from being aroused but alas; that didn't work. Yes, he's finally free of his lamentation for (f/n), but that doesn't mean he didn't miss her.
Gods, he missed her so much. Every. Single. Day. To the point he was starting to regret not telling his feelings to her.
Three months. Three freaking months. 90 days, 22 hours, 17 minutes and 5 seconds, Takumi was counting for as long as he can remember after that incident. And never did he lost count at all.
Never would he lost count at all.
"Brother, hey, I'm talking to you."
A snap of a finger brought him back to reality. Thoughts of (f/n) rippled away like soft waves undulating forth in the sea without constraint until his Amber eyes finally met vermillion orbs that was glaring back at him with sheer annoyance. Takumi blinked owlishly away the haziness that filled his eyes, and Kamui could only huff through his nose in aggravation and crossed his arms. Takumi stared back at him, eyes seeming to be fazed.
"Did you even remember what I said?"
But Takumi was not listening anymore for his mind drifted back somewhere in the rifts of the memories that seem to be unending, plaguing his whole conscience like a rare disease would do as an inaudible hum escaped his lips— a vague attempt to respond back to his brother. Kamui could only facepalm at his younger brother's little antics; an annoyed cluck of his tongue slicing through the calming vicinity afterwards before sighing in defeat, his shoulders slouching as he did so. Just when he wanted to keep his mind off of her, there he goes — his brother — repeating the same process all over again. It's been like this— almost everyday as if it is his little ritual now and it actually irked the dragon prince a lot. Yes, he understands that (f/n) is hard to forget, but it's been three months already for crying out loud! Everyone already moved on; it seems he's the only one who was left behind the memory lane. It was actually starting to worry Kamui a lot.
"Brother, please, I'm begging for your attention." Kamui sighed, flushing once he said those words. It's really weird for him to say it considering the fact that Takumi WAS supposed to be the one who should say that since he actually yearns for his siblings' acknowledgment. Well, what choice does he have anyway? His brother just won't stop recalling (f/n). It just had to be done!
Takumi blinked again one more time. He was actually recalling everything he and (f/n) did in the past when his brother suddenly said that. Did he hear it right? Him, the most-devoted individual in the army and dear brother, yearning for his attention? "What did you say?"
At least his attention is already focused at him, that's what it mattered, Kamui sighed. Shaking his head, vermillion eyes stared at him and Kamui finally smiled, "Done recalling, brother?"
This made the skilled archer wide-eyed, a very bright blush creeping down his cheeks. He turned his face away, grumbling under his breath which was too indistinct for the dragon prince to register. Kamui finally laughed, the tone seeming to chime through the atmosphere. "I understand how much you missed her, brother, but could you tone it down a bit?"
"I-I wasn't—!" He shot out from the stump he's sitting on, a very flustered look painted on his face, "I'm not thinking about her!"
Oh brother. Kamui just only chuckled and left Takumi with no reply. Takumi stammered against the cool atmosphere then ran after him, skidding to a stop once he reached Kamui. "Hey! You can't just leave me there!"
The dragon prince's eyes glinted in amusement, "Why not? Isn't that your designated lair?"
Takumi went quiet. Takumi doesn't have a clear answer for that. What Kamui said was true anyway. He actually secludes himself in the forest for his archery rehearsals but that was before. Right now, that is not the main reason at all. Not at all.
Taking his brother's silence as a reply, Kamui gave him a brief glance before looking back at the direction he is facing. "Takumi, I'm not the one who's against you but when will you learn your lesson? Why won't you—" Kamui abruptly paused for a minute there; then, with a careful forte, he added, "Why won't you accept it?"
Just that one sentence, Takumi knew what he meant.
Kamui, on the other hand, was actually afraid of Takumi's response when the latter stopped from his tracks. The archer clutched his hands, and the platinum blonde haired prince prepared for the worst; steeling himself as he stopped as well from his tracks. Everything was still for a while, and if it means still, then it is. Every passing second only grew Kamui's anxiety as he patiently waited for Takumi's response.
"I just can't... I really can't.."
Kamui felt his muscles relaxed upon hearing that. He was relieved; that means Takumi was not upset at him. The platinum blonde obviously doesn't want to corrode his relationship with the archer.
"You... you really love her huh?" Kamui couldn't help the smile creeping down his lips when Takumi flushed at his choice of words. Takumi could only give a gruff, obviously annoyed and definitely flustered at his brother's teasing.
"Enough. I've had enough." Takumi finally went ahead, ears flushing pink. Kamui could only chuckle under his breath at his younger brother's little embarrassment.
Love — shaking his head, he trailed after his brother — what a funny word.
..~*~..
"Brigands?" Takumi frowned upon hearing the news from his sister, Hinoka. "We've already dealt the assassins a few months ago. Now the brigands this time?" Shaking his head, he muttered and crossed his arms. "Imbeciles don't know when to give up."
"I'm not so sure, Takumi. I've only heard the report from Ryoma-nee-san." Leaning against her silver lance that was buried deep in the dirt, Hinoka smiled, "Speaking of reports, Kamui reported something to me."
Immediately knowing what she meant, Takumi winced and gave a glare, "I know what you're speaking about and frankly, I don't want to hear it."
"H-hear what, nee-san?"
"Gods!" Takumi jumped in surprise and whirled around to face his baiter. He frowned, "Sakura! Don't sneak behind me. You surprised me!"
"E-eh! I'm so sorry!" Innocent as always, Sakura pulled her staff deep in her chest, pursing her lips. "S-so, what are you two talking about?"
Hinoka just gave a little teasing smirk at Takumi as the archer glared at her, "Nothing. Come, let's prepare ourselves." The fiery haired woman then left the two. Takumi could only glare holes at his sister when something tugging on his clothes took his attention. His eyes shifted to Sakura.
"W-what were you two talking about, nee-san?"
Of course she'll ask. Takumi restrained himself from groaning out loud, obviously not wanting to talk about his private affairs. "Like what sister said, let's prepare ourselves."
Sakura just pouted but complied nonetheless.
..~*~..
The mission was a success. They quickly chased down the brigands that were heading off to the northern plains, probably going to assault the nearby villages. Good thing they were quick enough to catch up with those dastards.
Takumi rewarded himself a few wounds from the battle because of his lack of awareness. It was lucky of him that both of his retainers were with him or else he wouldn't have made it. However, his siblings weren't happy of the results. Ryoma even reprimanded him of his little distraction in the battlefield and Sakura even glared at him while tending to his wounds— the royal siblings obviously aware of his petty disposition. This would've made him overjoyed considering the fact they already have their attention solely on him; however, this is NOT actually what he wanted.
Who would've known that they could be strict also? Especially his younger sister, Sakura.
Sighing almost to himself, Takumi grumpily watched his siblings from afar with a sharp look that everyone would've mistaken with a lion's glare. He doesn't know why, but he felt as if they were talking about him. Worst of it all is that there is someone with them — the cloaked one — who seemed to be indulging also in whatever private meeting they have. It's not fair when that person in disguise was talking to them. In a disguise too!
There they go. They were sneaking glances at him, and now he was sure of one thing.
They were definitely talking about him. And it irate him a lot, knowing that he wasn't allowed to hear everything what they are saying. It didn't help his injustice at all when that hooded person is allowed to know their little secret. All he wanted to do was take his Fujin Yumi and struck that cloaked figure an arrow or two.
His eyes glowered at Kamui when the platinum blonde strode towards him, a very huge smile splitting his face. His Amber eyes then shifted towards the cloaked figure behind him.
He doesn't know why but why can he sense some familiarity of this person? The worst part of it is that the organ inside him was malfunctioning; beating erratically against his chest, as if wanting to be let out. He can actually hear it pumping loudly in his ears. The organ itself was shouting at him but he couldn't depict what it was saying.
Just who exactly are they?
"Done talking about me, brother?" Takumi couldn't help the biting tone in his voice once the dragon prince is already in front of him. Kamui just continued smiling that... that weird smile of his.
"Not exactly. There's someone I want you to see actually." Takumi sensed the excited tone in his brother's voice, and his eyes narrowed in skepticism.
"Okay, I'll make this clear. I don't know what you're planning brother but I don't want to see anyone right now."
"So you don't want to see me then?"
Takumi felt himself frozen. That one voice. It only took one voice to make the archer's breath hitch in a second.
No way...
Kamui just laughed at Takumi's shocked face once the cloaked figure behind him stepped up and lowered their hood.
"(F-f/n)..?" He uttered her name in a whispery manner as if he could hardly believe that he is finally seeing something that he was once looking for. Which indeed it is. She is there in front of him, grinning that annoying grin of hers, yet dazzling for his eyes with her arms akimbo.
"Hello there, Takumi-san." He gave a shuddering breath once he realized how nice it felt to finally hear his name roll at the tip of her tongue. It just felt so surreal, yet so perfect; he could hardly believe it.
"I'll leave you two." Kamui pursed his lips, holding in his laughter as he left the two to sort out with whatever business they had once before the incident happened. (F/n) clamped a hand on her lips as she giggled at Takumi's dumbfounded look. Oh how she missed this adorable archer.
She took a step to close the distance between them, then she raised her head to gaze upon his amber eyes with such adoration. His eyes, they reflected in her gaze and they were in a torrent of emotions; she had a hard time determining which is which. But there's one thing she's really sure of.
He missed her so much; just as she missed him so.
"I... I thought.." He could just hardly believe it. It felt like a dream— a wonderful dream which he was pretty sure he didn't want to wake up just so he can see her like this. But it's real. Her warmth radiating off of her body is real and her touch is real. "H-how..?"
(F/n) smiled, laying a hand on his cheek, and the archer flinched for a second but he calmed down nonetheless when he felt her warmth seeping through her fingertips.
"I'm so sorry if I came back late, Takumi. You might not believe what I'm going to say, but Leo.."
Just when he was having this moment with her, his name— that Nohrian prince of a good for a nothing shattered it!
"No. I know what you're going to say and I refused to believe it."
(F/n) sighed and lowered her hand. Just as she expected, there's no way he is going to believe her. Well, she couldn't blame him. Leo just killed her in front of them— well, sort of since she's perfectly fine and breathing but still.
"Listen to me; I know what he did, but will you hear me out?"
Takumi was quiet for a while. Then with a sigh, he crossed his arms.
"Fine." Just because he missed her voice so much.
(F/n) smiled and began telling her own perspective. She started at the point when Leo casted a spell on her to threaten the Hoshidans from coming any closer to her. But what they didn't know is that Leo summoned a rare spell at her wherein her wounds were being sucked in his book until they are no more but a scribble or a scratch in a sheet of paper. To make things clear, Leo was only putting a show all this time. However...
"...it did hurt though. The laceration he gave me I mean." The woman murmured, "But at least it's been healed. He actually doesn't want to hurt his brother, Kamui, because he knows how much he loves you, Takumi. Just seeing you in a state of depression really did hurt Kamui a lot knowing he cannot do anything. And it hurts Leo a lot."
Kamui loves him? Takumi was pretty surprised, but... "Then why did he still continue it then?" He added, his tone a bit livid. (F/n) laughed.
"Believe me or not, I asked him the same thing."
"You talked to him?" Takumi could feel the venom dripping in his voice.
"Oh wow, I never knew you hated him that much." (F/n) shook her head, smiling. "Leo is a good guy, I hope you're there to see it. Who knows, maybe you two have similarities."
"So now you're siding with him?"
"I'm not saying I'm siding with him, I'm just telling the truth, Takumi-san."
"Tsk. Whatever. What did he say then? Why did he do it?" He couldn't helped the curious tone in his voice as he said this.
(F/n) grinned. "He just wanted to see your reaction."
After she said that, it was quiet in their area. The wind just passed by them and Takumi just remained staring back at her, the screws in his mind working. Then for a minute, he gritted his teeth, anger bubbling inside him.
"That's it? He hurt you just because he wanted to see my reaction?!" His voice grew louder as time passes by. He is livid. Way too livid. He means— what sort of an idiot that hurts people just to see someone's reaction? Oh wait, Leo IS an idiot.
"Err... yeah. I did say that, didn't I?"
"WHAT KIND OF A QUESTION IS THAT?!"
"Hey! Relax! I actually want to know your reaction too you know?"
"AS IF— Wait, what did you say?" Takumi flushed a bit, (f/n) laughed.
"So~ you love me?" She grinned up at him and Takumi could only look away, his face exploding a cluster of red shades. When the archer didn't say anything, (f/n) frowned and sighed. "Maybe I should've taken Leo's advice all this ti—" She muttered under her breath, not expecting for Takumi to hear what she said. Unfortunately, he did when he snapped his head towards her.
"You are NOT going to him!" He frowned, clearly not pleased at all. The woman was dumbfounded for a while; and when a big smile appeared on her lips, Takumi cleared his throat and looked away again.
"So you DO love me huh?"
"Tsk." That's the only word he can say. He's way too flustered to say anything back at her.
(F/n)'s laughter rang around the atmosphere— like small bells chiming as the warrior pulled him in a warm embrace. Oh gods. Takumi can feel the heat creeping down his cheeks again as he hugged her quite hesitantly. But amidst of it all, he could hardly stop himself from smiling also. Just hearing her laugh, her voice, and seeing her smile is enough for him.
"You're going to spend a lot of time with me." Pushing from the hug to glance at her, Takumi frowned. "Don't forget; you owe me three months." He didn't want to admit it, but he was actually longing for her love. Just seeing some of his comrades in the army acting lovey-dovey with their loved ones didn't help his little condition at all.
(F/n) could only laugh again, "Alright. You have my answer."
Hugging her again, he mumbles on the crook of her neck, "Good."
"Oh, and Takumi, you're so cute."
"Shut up."
3 minutes.
"T-Takumi-san, can you say it? Those three words?"
Why oh why did he fall in this pitiful state of his again?
"Please don't make me say it."
"Come on. Please?" She leaned back to give him her puppy-dog eyes. Takumi rolled his eyes.
"I'm not falling for that." But the more he stares at her (e/c) orbs, the harder it was for him to resist. After a few seconds, Takumi groaned in defeat as he ran his fingers through his hair. "Fine! I'll say it!" He huffed, crossing his arms as (F/n) grinned in triumph as she waited for him. She could see how reluctant he looked but when he finally took a deep breath, his eyes met hers deeply, a blush adorning his face. Then with a sincerely soft voice, he said.
"I love you."
(F/n) smiled widely, eyes shining brightly upon hearing that. Leaning in to peck his cheek, she finally threw both of her arms around his neck and uttered the same words with the same intensity to him which send his heart a new warmth.
"I love you too."
