[Chapter One] Last Arendelle

Prologue

The slightest tapping of the tree branch against the window woke the small girl from bed. She gasped jumping when the phone went off beside her. Slowly she picked up her phone with the red cases. Placing it to her ear she murmured a tired.

"Yeah?" It came out groggy and harsh.

"Red something really weird is going on outside," one of her best friends voices frantically boomed through the speaker.

The ten year old sat up her curls flying around her. She slid out of bed her red plad pajama pants barley visible in the dark room. "Its two in the mornin'," She points, "What could possible be goin' on Third?"

"Im not sure, listen stay away from the doors and windows, don't go ou-" his voices cut off as the girls phone died. She looked around for her charger she didn't see it. Throwing down her phone she opened her drawer in search for her walky talky from the set of four that her friends used to contact one another.

It was mainly because she was always getting grounded and her phone taken away, and her and her friends need away to stay in touch with her when she didn't have her cell.

Slowly she turned on the light tugging the slightly rolled up white sleeve to her shirt down to cover her hands. She was tired, her eyes drooped as she crossed her arms tightly over her chest. Sighing as she seen it wasn't there and was most likely down stairs.

Her bare feet were cold against the floor she wiggled her toes. Walking to her bedroom she opened it the door revealing the dark hall of the top floor. Not thinking much of the odd silence in the house she started to make her way to the stairs.

The wooden steps creaked with each step. She paused at the last few listening peaking around into the kitchen to see if her mother or father was there. However they weren't there probably upstairs. All over the walls were picture frames. With Friends and family everywhere.

Slowly she made her way to the living room opening each draw to the small tables that the lamps sat on. Frowning as she still hadn't found it. Turning on some of the lamps she made her way to the kitchen.

Everything was made of smooth woods. Her finger brushed over the counter she opened  the drawers one by one. She rubbed her eyes groaning murmuring curse words through her lips in her thick accent.

Her mother would surely make her swish around Dawn dish soap in her mouth if she heard such language. Her mothers words, 'A lady doesn't use profanity!' Echoed in her mind making her mentally roll her eyes.

She stopped shutting the last drawer to think of were she'd placed the walky talky. Her tired mind scanned her memory searching for the last time she'd used it. She clearly remeremember having it after school on Thursday two days before.

It was then she murmured, "Idiot," to herself insulting every last inch of herself for not realizing it would be in her bookbag. Moving slightly faster than before she made it to the dinning room getting on her knees.

She heard them pop, as she grabbed her teal colored bag. It was decorated with small things from her friends. On the zipper was small snowflakes, suns and dragons tyed to them.

Dry paint was swirled in designs everywhere. Along with patches of fabric from hold clothing sowed into it. Sickers stuck here and there along with mutable words and phrases in a handful of different colored sharpies.

She loved this bag, her and her friends ahd decorated each others before school started nearly eight months before. Summer was approaching and the first thing her friends were gonna do was going to have a over night movie marathon with popcorn and whatever else they could stuff themselves with.

The girl pulled out the black walky talky that weighed about the same as her phone. Maybe slightly heavier. She switched it on instantly flinching at the sound of her three friends voices crackling through in panicked, nervous voices.

They were all saying pretty much the same thing along with her names, "Merida?!"

She turned down the volume, "I'm 'ere, calm ah down!" She said her voice still tired but more loud.

"Thank goodness!" The high girl voice cried out, "I thought you'd never reply!"

"I'm fine Punzie," Merida said obviously not panicked.

"Listen Red, something bads going on, its all over the news, theres some kinda virus people are absolutely going crazy outside!"

"I heard it to Jack," Third said, "I saw it theres something wrong with people outside."

"I see them to! Hiccup," Punzie said.

Merida stood up leaving her bag open on the floor. She walked to the living room peeking out the thick gold curtain. She could see Hiccups house across the street a wooden house that looked old but still in good shape with a rickity fence with old painted shields hanging from it. Next store to him was Jacks house much taller and white with blue shutters and a picket fence around it.

Next store to Merida was Rapunzel. Her small yellow house with pink, gold, and purple flowers surrounding it. Meridas house was solid gray stone, and a metal fence surrounding it. There was a small garden with roses of all colors growing up through the ground.

Merida looked around not seeing anything out of the unusual. She frowned, "Guys, ay don't see- ," there was a loud thundering sound and Merida saw in the distance a bursed of light. The explosion was loud and Merida froze unsure what to do.

"Did you see that!" They all asked barely any distance apart.

Merida stumbled towards the TV turning it on. A woman appeared. Speaking. Speaking words. Ones Merida no longer heard. All she seen was chaos.

"Theres something wrong with some of the neighborhoods," Punz said before a screech echoed through the talky, "oh god!"

"What happened?" Jack demand.

"Outside, the neighbors one just went...he went crazy he...he attacked the other guy!" Rapunzel said.

"I don't see them where they go?" Hiccup asked.

"I don't know they were right by Meridas house not even two seconds ago!" This go Meridas attention. She rushed to the window by the front door.

"Ay don't see anyone or hear anything?" Merida said after a moment of glancing around.

"Whats going on?" Rapunzel whispered what they all were wondering.

"I don't know, lets just take safe precautions, don't go outside and make sure you doors and windows are locked.
