Chapter 4

"You're moving?" My close friend and classmate, Al, questioned me.

After I woke up from my nap, I wanted to get out of the house. I didn't want to be there for any longer so I messaged Al and she messaged our other close friends. And here we are in the park, having a picnic and just talking with each other. The day is nice and cool but the grass is wet. Instead of us sitting down on the grass like we wanted to, we're now sitting down on the bench.

I nodded, stuffing strawberries into my mouth. I looked to my right and saw strawberries covered in chocolate so I also decided to stuff my mouth with those.

My closest friends whined, complaining how they didn't want me to leave and they could let me crash into their house.

"When are you leaving?" My close friend, Cassidy, grabbed me by the shoulders extremely rough. It almost made me fall off the bench.

My other 4 friends here started laughing, some laughing harder than the others.

"I'm going to rip all of your books if I get hurt because of you." I pushed her harder than she pushed me. Cass almost fell off the bench with another close friend.

"Rude," Cass whined, pouting at me then moved from being next to me to sitting in front of me. Al gave her her seat and now she's sitting next to me.

Al rolled her eyes and faced me. "No but seriously, when are you moving?"

I swallowed the grape. "As soon as summer school is done." I popped another grape into my mouth, especially the green ones. I love how sour they can be.

"You're leaving on the 2nd of July? Because the 1st is the last day of school and it's also a Friday?"

I shrugged. "My mom didn't tell me exactly when or what time. She just said as soon as summer school is done, we're packing our stuff and leaving."

"Does your dad know that you're moving to a whole different country?" My other friend, Taylor, who was also stuffing her face with the chocolate strawberries asked.

"Yeah, he does know that we're moving to a different country but we're still considering living here in the US. The city/county is right near or I think it's on the border? I don't know, I didn't exactly listen when my mom was explaining it to me."

My mom was explaining it to me when I just woke up. As soon as she saw me wake up to get dressed to school, and me being half awake, I wasn't paying attention. Every time she questioned me or told me if I was listening I just nodded and tried to not fall asleep.

Al shook her head, Cass rolled her eyes, Taylor also shook her head and even crossed her arms and Salem raised their eyebrows at me. “What, you people expect me to listen to my mom when I’m barely up and especially when I’m hungry? Because you four wouldn’t be able to do the same.”

“We shouldn't make a big deal out of it anyway.” Salem shrugged and started devouring the last fruits we had there. The three other girls agreed and I decided to let it go.

“Wait,” Al stopped me from getting up. “A place near or even in the border of the US and Canada?”

I nodded, not knowing where Al was going with this or what even is she thinking. All I got from the information that my mom was telling me is that my aunt lives there and there are really good schools there. My information is limited and I can't search it up considering I don’t even know what the county/city is called.

Salem rolled their eyes again. “Where are you going with this?” They urged her.

“I think I have a distant family member living there if I’m thinking of the right place…?”

Salem scoffed and got up. “Really? Is that all you had to say? I thought you were going to say that you know someone famous living there or that a distant family living there is a famous celebrity.”

Al glared at them. “Well, I was going to say that not one, even two but three famous and wealthy celebrities people and their family live there but sure, go ahead and stop me.” Al rolled her eyes and turned around, not liking the fact that her information was busted by Salem.

Salem groaned. “My bad.” They whispered, not feeling sorry. Taylor and Cass started urging them to apologize to Al but they didn’t want to.

“Al.” I went up to her but not close enough to be safe as I didn’t want to upset her any more than she already is.

She turned around and faced me. “Do you know who lives there, if the place that you’re thinking about is where I’m going to live?”

“There are three powerful and extremely rich families. One of them is the Marshall family and they have a ton of kids. Many boys and only one girl. The second one is the Navarro family, and again, they have a ton of kids and I think, more than the Marshall family. Those two are extremely close to each other, especially the older children. The third family is the Romero family, they only have like 5 kids but they’re extremely powerful as the dad is a politician. There’s more information on the families but we’d be here all day and I don’t think you want that.”

I smiled at her. “Thank you Al for the information and it’s fine, I’ll look it up on Google.”

“Al,” Taylor said then motioned her to come over there. Al grumbled at first but then went to where they were.

I grabbed my things and texted my dad to come to pick me up. “Okay guys, I’m going to leave. I have many things to store and I need to start on my study guide, especially for Geometry, I haven’t touched it when I got it.”

“Bye, Ann!” Al yelled and waved even though I barely moved from my stop.

Taylor jumped and went to hug me. “Bye Ann, we’ll see you at school.” I hugged her back and nodded.

“Bye, Ann!” Salem yelled back even though I’m close to them. “And tell me when you’re done with the study guide so I can copy of from you.” They winked and started playing on their phone. I just rolled my eyes and decided to not respond to them.

Cass waved goodbye as she was talking on the phone and turned around, hitting Al on the head.

I waved back and started walking. My dad texted me that he’s 5 minutes away.

—------

“Have you started packing?” My dad asked but not too well since he’s currently eating ice cream.

I shook my head, not wanting to talk as the ice cream is currently freezing my teeth. It’s fun doing this even if it feels like my teeth are about to fall off or harden somehow.

My dad laughed, clearly looking at my expression. “What did I tell you about doing that?”

I glared at him. “Because it’s fun and I like how it feels.”

He laughed harder but made sure his ice cream didn’t fall off.

“Where's mom?” I took a bite from my ice cream again and I looked up to my dad.

“She decided to home while I came here to get you, she decided to make lunch.”

I threw the trash in the trash can. “Dad?”

“Hm?”

“Are you going to be okay when mom and I leave?” I can imagine him alone in a big house, the house is silent as my mom and I are miles away from him. I know that my Dad is a grownup but I’m worried for him.

There was silence, the only thing that I could hear was my dad munching on his ice cream. “I’ll be fine and whenever I miss you two, I can take a plane ticket to visit the two of you.”

I smiled. “When I’m 18 and I still live there, I’ll visit you whenever I can Dad.” I gave him a big hug and he hugged me really hard. “And I’ll do the same too.”

“Come one, let’s go. Your mom is done with the food.”

I tapped my fingers together. “I can’t wait to devour what she cooked.” We got in the car and drove to the house.
