Twenty Two: When Feelings Surface
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
Seunghee runs thru the hallways of the hospital with Jeonghan following behind. She's so agitated and full of anxiety, putting the blame all on herself. Jeonghan doesn't like the way this is going though. Whatever happens, she's not to blame for anything. And he will instill that in her head.
Seunghee opens the door of room 211, witnessing a concerned crowd. Sorn anxiously sits beside the patient holding his hand, Areum and Sehun are standing behind her with solemn expressions on their faces. They turn to Seunghee who have just arrived after learning of the accident an hour ago, she's walking towards them and Jeonghan staying close behind her. It surprises them that he's with her but they focus on the matter at hand.
Seunghee can't fathom what she's feeling. She's putting all the blame on her shoulders once again. This is what she never wants to happen, not to him, not to anyone else. She's become teary-eyed looking at the pitiful situation he is in. Jeonghan just stares at the patient. He's not insensitive about the accident, it's just that he doesn't want Seunghee to feel responsible for what he had met.
Jun is laying down the bed, still unconscious, with bandages all over his head, waist and legs. What's crucial is the fact that his legs were actually the part where he sustained the most damage. He was run by a delivery truck last night while running away from Seunghee and Jeonghan.
"Is he okay?" Seunghee nervously asks.
Areum answers her, "The doctor said he's fine. But the fissure on his right leg seems to be on a worst case. There's a possibility that he might not be able to dance anymore. Though he said it can possibly heal too. We'll know in the weeks to come."
That news only makes Seunghee feel guilty even more. Her conscience will not be able to take it if Jun will have to stop chasing his dreams because of this accident. She will not forgive herself. She's in deep thought when she feels a hand on top of her shoulder. It's Jeonghan, trying to comfort her.
"Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault," he tells her.
She looks at him and by then, she can't stop crying. She leans on his chest and he gives her an embrace, patting her head. She doesn't have to feel like this. Just when they're finally together. He will do everything to ease her pain. And he will make sure, this guy gets what he deserves for making her suffer.
The scene makes Areum and Sehun turn to each other, completing the picture as to what might have happened last night that got Jun to end up like this. Sorn can only pity Jun after seeing them. She stares more deeply at him, clutching at his hand tighter. Now she knows why and she wants to do everything to help him recover, from the injury and from the pain.

The group leaves the hospital when Jun's parents arrive later. They do not talk to them, it seems like they only knew Chinese and only Sorn can speak the language. But she doesn't want to meet his parents in a situation like this. They let the doctors take care of the patient and his parents for the mean time.
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
After leaving the hospital, they end up at a nearby diner, all down and weary. All thinking about the situation Jun is in. With drinks infront of them, they talk about things.
"I can't believe this is real. He was still fine yesterday," Sorn says with a trembling voice.
Seunghee feels even more guilty infront of Sorn. It can't be helped if she put the blame on her once she knows about what happened. She should've talked to him nicely and stopped him from running away, that's the surfacing regret she's having now.
Jeonghan, who's sitting beside her, holds her hand. He is watching her all this time. She's on a guilt trip again. He can't see her like this, it breaks his heart.
Sehun and Areum are now certain. They have to be linked with what happened to Jun.
Areum cannot hide her curiosity anymore, "What's with the hand holding and hugging earlier?"
Seunghee timidly smiles at her and Jeonghan answers, "We're finally together now."
Across them, Sehun and Areum sighs hard and Sorn just looks straight at them, at Seunghee.
"And Jun was there last night when I walked out of his apartment. He even punched Jeonghan angrily. And I told him off then he ran away," Seunghee breaks her silence at last.
"So it's your fault unnie," Sorn just blurts out shocking everyone.
Sehun defends Seunghee though, "It's not her fault. It was an accident."
"It's your fault unnie!" Sorn screams at her now.
"Hey! Watch your language. Don't talk to Seunghee like that," Jeonghan exclaims but Seunghee calms him down while touching his arm.
"Jeonghan, it's okay. Calm down," Seunghee says.
"Why couldn't you just give him a chance?" Sorn is shaking in anger now, with tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
Areum has to come through, "Sorn, what's wrong? You of all people. You can't do this to Seunghee."
But Sorn isn't listening and she continues her babbling, this time tears are rolling down her face, "Couldn't you be extra considerate? He was always there for you! He was the one who did so much for you! Why couldn't you even give him more credit for being loyal to you?!"
Everyone is shaken at her sudden outrage. The sweet, lively girl is hiding this resentful side of her all this time. And the most shocked of them all is Seunghee herself. She must have kept all this pent up anger towards her from the start. All because she loves Jun.
"I hate you unnie! If Jun doesn't recover, I'm never gonna forgive you!!" she screams and bolts out of the diner.
"Hey Sorn! Come back here!" Areum calls out to her but she disappears rapidly.
Seunghee can't stop her tears. She knows it's her fault and it's natural that everyone will put the blame on her. But Jeonghan thinks otherwise.
"Stop crying Seunghee. It was his fault for not looking both ways while crossing that road," Jeonghan says as a matter of fact. "Maybe even beating the red light."
Seunghee looks at him unbelievably. He just wants to console her though.
"It's never gonna be your fault okay?" he tells her, touching her chin up.
Areum can see how Jeonghan wants to put away Seunghee's agony. And she wants her to be okay too.
"He's right Seunghee. Whatever happened to Jun is positively his lack of sense of security that night. You didn't even see how it happened. He ran on his own, putting his own life in danger. It wasn't your call. He was the only one responsible for it," Areum states.
Sehun seconds Areum, "Yah. Don't dwell on it too much cousin. It's okay to worry about him. But don't go punishing yourself just because you think it's your doing. You don't have anything to do about it."
Jeonghan thanks them deep inside. He's glad they're all good friends of her. They are not biased and judgmental. And they assess the situation perfectly. He puts his arm around her shoulders caressing her.
"You heard them, it's okay. He's gonna be alright," he says.
Seunghee stays silent but stops crying. She just nods and looks down on her drink.
They all keep the silence and later calls it a day.
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
Jeonghan convinces Seunghee to drop by his place for a while when she just wants to be alone in her room and mope all day long, doing the guilt trip all over again. When he hears her telling him about it, he instantly drags her to his apartment with him.
She's sitting on the couch now, while Jeonghan prepares some tea for them at the kitchen. He can see her where she's at and she's definitely still not okay.
He goes over her carrying the tray, with the teapot and two cups and saucers. He puts it down the table infront of Seunghee and sits beside her, directly putting his arm around her shoulders.
"Hey..." he mumbles.
"I'm alright Jeonghan-ah..."
He has only heard his name with the –ah in the end for the second time tonight and it puts a smile on his face.
"Seunghee-ya... it's not like Jun's dead or anything."
Seunghee jerks away from what he said, "Jeonghan!"
"I'm sorry! Okay, I'll shut up. Just come back here."
He reaches out his arm at her and she quickly throws herself back at his side.
"Don't talk about him that way. He's my friend."
"If I'm not your boyfriend, I'd say he's the one you're reserving yourself for."
"Are you still jealous of him? He's at the hospital for god's sake, and still unconscious as we speak."
"I will always get jealous of every guy who gets close to you."
Seunghee looks up to him as he looks down on her and feels the butterflies attacking her stomach. He's so sweet. And because of that, she wraps her arms around him in return. With her hugging him like that, Jeonghan can say he's the luckiest guy in the world. He envelops her in his arms too.
"I'm sorry. To be honest, I feel the same whenever girls swarm around you," she utters.
He kisses her forehead lightly.
"Just to assure you, I have eyes only for you. Other girls don't exist for me."
"I know. And you should know by now too that Jun is only just an important friend to me."
"Can you elaborate the facts? I just can't comprehend how significant he is to you. It makes me tick."
"Don't be mad okay? Okay, I'll take it from the top. So you can understand why I'm like this when it comes to him."
"That better be an extraordinary story."
"Kinda. Well come on, just hear me out."
Snuggling beside each other like that, with Jeonghan all ears on her, Seunghee starts to tell their story.

Flashback
(Six months ago during the first day of the semester)
Seunghee is walking at the center to buy something. She's looking through the glass panels of boutiques, admiring how pretty the new dresses are. While skimming through, her phone rings. She puts it out of her shoulder bag and answers.
"Mom? I'm okay. I arrived early so I'm at the center by now. Hey mom, can I use the debit card? There's this dress infront of me now. It's color red and it's really pretty. Mom, please??? Yes!! Thank you! I love you!"
But before she can put her phone down and take a step inside the store, a hooded guy forcibly grabs her bag and runs away with it. It takes Seunghee a few seconds to react.
"What?! Give me my bag back!! Come back here!!!"
She starts running after the guy. But with her non-athletic build and not to mention, her three-inch heels, the man only lengthens the gap between them. When suddenly, another guy nearing his twenties, dashes past by her and soon enough, lands a powerful flying kick on the guy's back, leaving Seunghee in a jaw-dropping awe.
