Thirty One: When Someone Else Interferes
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
The doorbell rings. Seunghee and Jeonghan are inside Seunghee's apartment trying out her newly baked strawberry pie. The kitchen is a mess with Jeonghan trying to pry on her business and ultimately interfering with her work.
"I'll get it. Don't eat the pie okay?" Seunghee demands.
"Just hurry up before I get my hands on them," Jeonghan jokes.
"Argh! Just don't touch it!" she groans and he just has this sly smile on his face.
Seunghee runs to the door and opens it in a hurry, trying to shorten the time for Jeonghan to lay his hands on her treasured strawberry pie. But she's surprised to see the person on the other side of the door.
"Noona!!" the person screams as he gives her a tight hug.
"Hansol?? What are you doing here?!" she exclaims excitedly and glad too upon seeing the boy.
The white boy kisses her on the cheek as he lets go and faces her. She doesn't react violently or indifferently though, in fact she just let him do it, like he does it so casually.
"What else? I came back for you!" he cheerfully answers.
"Wait, are your parents here with you? When did you arrive? Since when were you here?"
"Who is it Seunghee?" Jeonghan says as he approaches behind her.
Seunghee turns to him lovingly when he puts his arm around her shoulders infront of the visitor.
"We've got a foreign visitor Jeonghan-ah. Well, when you look at him physically though. Oh yeah, Hansol, my boyfriend Jeonghan is here. Jeonghan, this is Hansol, an old friend of mine."
She smiles at Hansol, emphasizing to him that she's taken now. Jeonghan just looks at the boy indifferently.
Hansol stares at Jeonghan quite shocked. It's not real. He's finding it hard to believe even if he's already seen it with his own two eyes. The expression on his face is a combination of hurt, sadness, disgust and anger.
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
They are at the living room now. Hansol still staring at Jeonghan for quite a while now, and to be accurate, since he saw him at the door. Seunghee serves him tea and a piece of tart. They sit across each other with Seunghee sitting beside Jeonghan. Jeonghan is all over Seunghee though, with an arm on her back, just circling around her waist.
"So when did you arrive? And how exactly did you find my place?" Seunghee asks in a lively tone. She's so thrilled to see this boy again. "It's been what, five years?"
"Six years noona. I arrived just today. I asked your mom directly and she gave me your address," Hansol replies. "And just who the heck is this guy and why is he all over you?" he asks not containing his bad temper any longer.
It makes Jeonghan retaliate, "Watch your mouth boy," he warns aiming to reach him but Seunghee holds him still.
"Jeonghan no," she sighs. "Hansol, you're eighteen now. You should act like one. Stop being spoiled. Not everybody's gonna understand you."
"I'm eighteen now noona, that's why! What I don't understand is the fact that you're letting this guy touch you!" yelling and pointing a finger at Jeonghan.
This time Jeonghan doesn't let it go anymore, "Are you trying to pick a fight, brat?"
He bolts up and picks Hansol's collar up vigorously. Hansol jerks to fight back lifting his fist up but Seunghee stops them screaming.
"Stop it you two!!"
Jeonghan just has to let him go and Hansol fixes his shirt accordingly.
"Jeonghan-ah, can you excuse us for a moment?"
"What? I can't let you be alone with this kid?"
"I've known him since he was a baby. It's okay. Please?"
"So you know him more than you know me. Alright, just make it quick. I'll be at the corridors. You better behave kiddo."
Jeonghan warns him before walking outside and Hansol just snorts at him with a sharp stare. Now, it's only Seunghee and him inside the room.
"I'm not tolerating this Hansol. You can't just come here now with that attitude of yours."
"What? It's me who's shocked about all of this. Didn't you promise me you'd be my bride when you turn 20? It's been a while you did and I demand you to keep your promise. I only came here just because of that!"
Seunghee sighs unbelievably at him. What is this kid talking about? But eventually she recalls it.
"Hansol, that conversation of ours that day was mostly consist of bluff and child talk. There was not a single thing serious about it. And you should have realized it by now. You're not a kid anymore. You've grown up to be this good-looking man infront of me. Just look at you. And you still believe all those child talk? You may still be a little immature but you're now capable of assessing things, whether they're actually real or not."
But Hansol firmly retorts, "It may be child's talk for you. But it wasn't for me."
"Hansol..."
His eyes are dead serious looking at her. Seunghee feels threatened somehow.
"I'm not going back to New York until you promise me again."
He bolts away from her going out of the apartment. He slams the door shut meeting the eagerly awaiting Jeonghan outside. Hansol just walks past through Jeonghan with a piercing stare, making Jeonghan look back at him the same and fades out of the view.
Seunghee stressfully walks out of the room afterwards to the worried Jeonghan.
"Hey, is everything alright?"
"Yeah. Let's get inside. That kid just really stresses me out ever since. I can't believe that after six years he's still this stubborn."
"What's the deal with him?"
"I'll tell you later. Come on, let's just get inside."
Then they walk back inside the apartment trying to cope up with what just happened.
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
"Why do you have so many dongsaengs?" Jeonghan can't help but ask.
"So many? It's only just been Jun and now Hansol," Seunghee answers.
They are walking around the campus now, waiting for their next class. Instrument 201.
"What's worse is that they all go after you," he says.
"Are you getting jealous again?" she leers at him.
"I'm not saying."
"Jeonghan-ah! There's nothing to get jealous about. He's just a kid. He's three years younger than us."
"And why does it have to be that they're always good-looking?"
"Now you're turning insecure? Oh, come on."
Jeonghan grabs her by the waist and hugs her facing him.
"Then tell me who looks best between the three of us."
She stares directly into his eyes as he gazes down on her, melting her all over again.
"Well, Hansol ranks first-"
He quickly lets go disappointed, "Yeah, I need not to hear more."
But Seunghee continues with a smile on her face. She's only trying to ridicule him.
"Jun is second and you're last when it comes to looks. But!"
Jeonghan looks at her sulking and she finds it really cute.
"None of them ranks close to you when it comes to stealing my heart each and every single day."
She pinpoints the top of his nose with a cute pout.
"So you don't have to worry about a single thing okay? My precious angel?"
He flashes her his sweetest smile, making her weak on the knees again. He grabs the back of her head and kisses her forehead gently.
"That's just the thing I really need to hear."
"And to top it all, I love you more than anything."
It makes him smile even more, "I love you more."
He keeps her in an embrace, just letting the whole campus see how sweet they are to each other.
Then Seungcheol and Jisoo walk near them.
"That's PDA you guys," Seungcheol reprimands. "You should hear the counselor blowing the whistle anytime now."
They slowly let go upon seeing them.
"Hey, there's this high school kid at the guards' office," Jisoo says. "It so happens that I was passing by and he asked me if I know a person by the name of Oh Seunghee."
This news makes Seunghee and Jeonghan sigh.
"Ah... that kid," she taps her forehead in dismay.
Jeonghan just shakes his head, "Now it's unbelievable."
"You know the guy? He's a half breed with this Leonardo Dicaprio look," Jisoo utters.
"Nice one Jisoo," Jeonghan says.
"Ah, that one? I kinda caught a glimpse of him because girls are swarming around him when I passed by the area," Seungcheol adds.
"I better get to him. He won't be leaving for sure," Seunghee says.
She attempts to go but Jeonghan stops her.
"It's almost time for class Seunghee. He won't get lost. He's not in kindergarten anymore. Let's have him wait till classes ends," Jeonghan utters.
She peeks at her watch and sighs but obliges, "Okay. I'll go right after class."
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
Seunghee can't stay still in class. She's a little preoccupied with Hansol showing up in the campus. But on another note, she thinks again. He's not a little child anymore. She's just going paranoid. Her past experiences with him as a child were just too traumatic. She didn't want to keep her eyes off him even for a second. But that was years ago. She sighs recalling it and smiles to herself. He is a younger brother she really never had.
Jeonghan watches her all the time. He notices her smile to herself and thinks to himself. She's not thinking about that brat, isn't she? He better not be there after class.
>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<
But he is. Right after class, Seunghee drags Jeonghan to the guards' office and finds Hansol there. She knew he'll be there, because he's stubborn. Jeonghan wished he's not there but sees him anyway. Hansol better not pick a fight with him again.
Hansol jumps at Seunghee the instant he sees her.
"Noona!" he hugs her tight earning a pissed off look from Jeonghan. Hansol grins lopsidedly at him, taunting him.
Seunghee has told Jeonghan how close she is to Hansol. But witnessing it personally, pisses him off big time. And even more when Hansol kisses her cheek, Seunghee not even bothering to push him away.
He has to come in between them and tug him away from her, "Now I've had it. Hands off you little rascal."
"Jeonghan-ah..." Seunghee rolls her eyes at him.
"Insecure now, are we?" Hansol says trying to provoke him.
"Just back off if you don't wanna go home unconscious," Jeonghan replies.
"Ah, stop it okay. You two just have to patch your differences up," Seunghee utters. "So why are you here Leo?"
"Leo?! Stop it noona. Don't call me that ever again," Hansol tells her.
"Why Leonardo? Dicaprio doesn't come after it, it's da Vinci," Jeonghan utters, trying to be sarcastic.
Seunghee snorts at his attempt to be funny and Hansol just glares at him.
"It doesn't suit you Jeonghan-ah. Just leave the kid alone," Seunghee says walking by.
Jeonghan follows her and replies, "He's thinking too much of himself."
"Just let it go okay."
"Not until I get my hands on his face."
"Stop it okay? He's not doing anything to you."
"To me, he hasn't, but to you, he's done a lot. Here, wipe your cheeks," he says handing her his hanky.
"What? Jeonghan-ah, come on!" she refuses to get it.
"You don't want to? Then let me wipe it for you."
He motions to do it himself but she moves his hands away.
"Jeonghan-ah!"
"Just do it already!"
Hansol stares at how close they are. They are talking to each other like nobody's around and doesn't care about other people. It makes him mad. Just when did this loathsome guy come to her life? He wasn't gone too long and now here he is, getting cozy with her. He only snaps out of it when Seunghee calls on him. They've just finished their little cuddle time.
"Come on Hansol! Are you coming or what? Let's talk somewhere else," she says.
He obliges and follows them behind. He feels out of place. He feels defeated. But he will still strive to prove her what he came back for. He will make sure she gets his message and stumble upon the guy beside her, with his evil little ways.
