Forty: When She Came Back

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

Im Nayeon, Seunghee's grade school close friend who transferred schools in sixth grade is now strolling the campus grounds in search for her. She misses her and is excited to meet her to check on how she's been doing after eight long years of being away. And she's also back for someone else. Someone she's been longing to see ever since the time she left, hoping that person still remembers her, hoping that person is still around.

She flaunts her long wavy hair as she walks the corridors of the sophomore's building. Most guys turn their heads to her astonishing beauty and figure. It's common for pretty girls to be around but it's not every day that they see a girl like her.

Seunghee, Jeonghan, Jisoo and Seungcheol are staying at a vacant room for a while, just chatting of whatever comes to mind. They are sitting in a circle and having a laugh when Nayeon appears at the entrance of the room. She pauses for a second. She can't believe she's seeing the two persons she's looking for in one place at the same time.

She shrieks, surprising the persons inside the room. "Seunghee!!!"

They all turn to her and for a moment, Seunghee ponders who this person is. "Who..."

Jeonghan asks her, "Do you know her?"

Meanwhile Seungcheol has this amazed look on his face. But he instantly brushes it off before the others notice him.

Nayeon cheerfully approaches them and stands by Seunghee's side. Then Seunghee has a clear view of her face and she definitely looks familiar.

"Seunghee! Can't you remember me?" she smiles to her, does cute poses and stuff that will trigger Seunghee's memory.

The guys are staring at her. She's surely trying hard for Seunghee to recall her. And they find her really cute. Seunghee creases her brows for a minute, thinking hard remembering and she finally does when Nayeon puts her hair up in twin pigtails.

"Nayeon?! Im Nayeon? Is that really you?" she exclaims standing on her seat.

"Yes!!" Nayeon answers. "Seunghee!!!"

"Nayeon!!"

The girls embrace each other tightly, like old friends do. They surely miss each other a lot. They were the closest of friends back then and it's obvious that they share the same feeling now.

"How have you been? When did you come back?" Seunghee asks her eagerly.

"Just a few days ago. Wow! You look amazing! We really are goddesses don't you agree?" Nayeon jokes.

"You never change Nayeon," Seunghee replies giggling.

The boys behind her are just waiting for her to introduce them, but it seems a bit impossible seeing them excitedly indulged with each other so Jeonghan says something instead.

"Excuse me, can I interrupt your little reunion?" Jeonghan says.

Seunghee turns to him and smiles at him. He's off to Jealousy Island again. Even with a girl? She thinks and sighs about it.

"Oh yeah! Before we get on with catching up, let me introduce these guys to you first," Seunghee states.

Nayeon patiently waits as she introduces them one by one, "Hi guys," she says waving cutely at them with a smile. Jisoo and Seungcheol smile back at her.

"Guys, this is Im Nayeon, an old friend of mine during my elementary days," Seunghee starts." And Nayeon, these are Hong Jisoo, Choi Seungcheol and-"

"I know him! Yoon Jeonghan right?"

Jeonghan and Seunghee are quite surprised about it.

"You know me?" Jeonghan questions.

"You guys, I transferred schools in sixth grade remember?" Nayeon points out rolling her eyes.

"Oh yeah!" Seunghee finally understands. "Jeonghan was a transferee in fifth grade. Of course!"

"Oh, I see. But I can hardly remember you, I'm sorry for that," Jeonghan apologizes.

"It's okay. We were in a class for only a year and we weren't even close. I understand," Nayeon replies. "Unlike Seunghee here who was with me since prep school!"

"Yah, it feels like yesterday! Ah... it's almost time for our next class, can you wait till school is over? I really want to catch up with you!" Seunghee gladly requests.

"Sure! I'll be checking the dean's office anyway," Nayeon utters with a wink.

"Dean's office? You're transferring?"

"Yes!!"

"Ahhh!!!" both girls scream holding each other's hands.

The boys behind just grin at them. Girls are really strange, they all think.

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

"See you later!" Nayeon waves at her at a distance and fades into the hallway.

Seunghee and Jeonghan stands at the door ready to go to their next classes. Jisoo and Seungcheol have already gone ahead a while ago.

"I really can't remember her," Jeonghan tells Seunghee.

"I bet you only really paid attention to me back then," Seunghee cuddles beside him.

"That's one of the reasons though," he says circling her shoulders with his arm.

"And what other reasons are there?"

"Another is because I only went to class for school stuffs and I only remembered stuff that matter to me."

"I can remember all of our classmates names in fifth grade though," she claims trying to stir jealousy in him again.

"Really now..." he replies with a sullen look.

She laughs at his face then, "Just joking! I can only remember everything about you too. Well, some of Nayeon of course."

"Since prep school huh. You two really looked excited a while ago."

"Yah, we have a lot to talk about. I'm really glad she's staying for good again. You'll like her. She's really fun to be with."

"She seems okay."

"She's more than just okay. And she's great at dancing. She's a good singer too."

"But you're definitely way better for sure."

"Ah... Just listen to me for a moment."

Seunghee continues to praise Nayeon as they stroll to their next class. Jeonghan has never heard her talk this much about another person before. She must really like that person. He shall give them space for themselves.

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

Seungcheol is quiet. They are in the room waiting for their professor to arrive. It's very seldom that he stays in place at his seat not making any noise at all. Jisoo finds it intriguing. He elbows Jeonghan beside him, who is busy chatting with Seunghee on his phone even though they were together just a few minutes ago.

"What's up?" Jeonghan asks.

"Don't you think something's weird? I bet Coups has a problem," Jisoo whispers.

"What's wrong with Coups?" he glances at the silent Seungcheol behind Jisoo. "He seems okay to me."

"He's turned mute for some unknown reason."

Seungcheol snorts at them. "I can clearly hear you guys. Just what are you doing talking behind my back?"

"Not behind though, we're beside you," Jeonghan jokes.

"Agh! Just zip it." Seungcheol revolts.

"So is there any problem?" Jisoo inquires.

"There is NO problem. I just wanna have some peace for a change," Seungcheol shares.

That moment the professor comes into the room. "Prepare for a short quiz in fifteen minutes."

Jisoo and Jeonghan just turn to each other, leaving Seungcheol alone for the mean time. Though Seungcheol is actually thinking of something, well, someone for exact. And he's gonna go over it for a little more while.

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

After class, they usually meet at the block's corner since their rooms are just nearby.

"I'll just pick Nayeon up at the Dean's office. Okay?" Seunghee elatedly says.

"Alright. We'll be at our spot in the field," Jeonghan answers.

"Okay, see yah."

Seunghee paces away to the dean's office right then. Jeonghan then notices that Seungcheol is gone too.

"Hey, where's Seungcheol?" he asks Jisoo.

"What? He was just here a moment ago," Jisoo answers.

"What's wrong with him really?"

"Beats me."

Both boys just shrug clueless as to why Seungcheol is behaving the way he is.

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

Seungcheol actually sneaks into the dean's office. He has to make sure of something. It's been bugging him since he saw Nayeon earlier. Was it fate? Or simply coincidence that he sees her again? And he's still unsure of his memory. That night at the inn, it was a bit dark. And he can hardly confirm if she's really the one he saw.

He successfully infiltrates the area and sees her there. Sitting at one of the porch stalls, waiting for someone. Maybe she's waiting for Seunghee, he tells himself. He stares at her one more time, as if the moment earlier wasn't enough. He's still torn between believing or not, until she puts her phone out. Seungcheol's eyes widen as he sees the same blinking phone accessory attached to it. He unconsciously smiles to himself, feeling satisfied. What's this? He asks himself. Maybe destiny has found someone for him without him searching for it.

Later, Seunghee arrives picking up Nayeon and the two chatter again like there's no tomorrow. It gives Seungcheol the chance to escape unnoticed and simply walks away.

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

At their favorite spot at the school field, Seunghee brings Nayeon along and introduces her to the others. The ones who haven't met Nayeon yet stare at the new girl with awe-filled gazes. She's pretty, that's what they all have in their minds.

"Guys! This is Im Nayeon, my best friend in grade school. She just transferred here and will be attending the university starting tomorrow," Seunghee states.

"Hello! Hope you guys take care of me!" Nayeon says cutely.

"I remember you! You were that pigtails girl in Seunghee's class before," Sehun utters.

"Ah! Sehun oppa!" Nayeon exclaims. He instantly recalls him because he was one of her childhood crushes before.

"Yehet! That's me," Sehun answers.

Before they get into a deeper conversation, Areum interferes, "And I'm his girlfriend, Areum."

"Oh, hi unnie," Nayeon greets.

"Sorn mida, Nayeon-shi," Sorn adds.

"Hi there Sorn, I can call you that right?" she replies.

"Yah, sure. Unnie?" Sorn asks.

"Yah, call me that," Nayeon tells her and both girls giggle.

Around that time, Seungcheol just comes back from his endeavor.

"Hey, where did you run off to?" Jisoo asks him.

"Just somewhere around," Seungcheol answers, acting cool again.

But Nayeon blurts out something, "I think I saw him just outside the dean's office a while ago."

She looks so innocent, Seungcheol has no idea she even saw him there. It shocks him for a second, all the while he thought he concealed himself perfectly. But the person he was hiding from actually saw him without him knowing. His pride shatters all of a sudden.

Jisoo and Jeonghan takes notice of his reaction and from there, they can deduce what's bothering him for a while now. They just turn to each other and let out a chuckle.

To hide his embarrassment, Seungcheol just rides along with what Nayeon said, "Yah, I passed by there. She probably saw me."

But Nayeon rejects his statement, "You weren't passing by. I saw you standing there. Still for a few minutes."

It makes Jisoo and Jeonghan chuckle even more. He's really caught in the act. What a pity. Seungcheol feels defeated. How can he win over this girl? Of all persons here, just not her.

"Yah, yah. I was there. So what? Ah, enough about me. Why don't we get to know the new girl instead?" he just utters annoyed.

"Yah, what course are you taking up unnie?" Sorn raises.

"I'm majoring in dance. Contemporary dance," Nayeon shares.

It goes for a while as they nip on snacks. Nayeon is very welcoming. She accommodated all their questions well. And in no time, she's joking with them altogether.

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

After some time, Seunghee and Areum throws their trash at a nearby trash bin. As they walk there, Areum spills out something.

"Why do I feel uncomfortable with that girl? I have a feeling she won't be good for you," Areum tells Seunghee.

"What are you talking about unnie? We're childhood friends. Even oppa knows her," Seunghee replies.

"That was years ago. You're all grown up now. Just look at her flirting with all the guys."

They watch her for a while. She's definitely being friendly. But Sorn's amongst the group and she's loving her jolliness.

"Come on unnie... She's not that type."

"Then what type do you think she is?"

"She's always been the friendly type. We're really close unnie. We even had the same crush back then."

That makes Areum's curiosity rise, "Don't you think that applies till now?"

"I don't think so unnie. She changed so much. I think her standard's leveled up too."

But Areum really feel uneasy about Nayeon, "Don't tell me I didn't warn you."

"Maybe you just don't like her. (giggles)"

"Well, you have a point. I never really liked the sociable ones."

"Yah, just let it go unnie."

"Let me keep it for the mean time. Just for precaution."

"Okay..."

They walk back to the others after throwing away the garbage. It doesn't bother Seunghee what Areum told her for now. But what she didn't know is that eventually, it will.
