Chapter 5

I stare at the screen. Katniss sits there, screaming for Primrose Everdeen, her dead sister. Me. And all I can do is watch her. I slump into the felt couch. I pull my knees to my chest and watch the screen. No-one comes to inject her so she calms down. They're just watching her screaming and sending it to the TV channel.

Tears threaten to spill from my eyes, but I wipe them away. I need to stop crying every time I see Katniss or think about my family.

I'm not alone now. I have two other people to look after me or rather, me look after them. Still, the tears come as I sit there watching my sister scream for me. It hurts. At that moment, I hated Coin for doing this to my family.

Katniss stops screaming and curls up and starts crying silently. Still, the TV channel doesn't change the camera. I cry with her, for all the emotions I kept at bay while I was worrying about Bonnie and Twill. I notice people finally come and inject Katniss with a sleep syrim so she falls asleep but I keep crying. I hear a noise from behind me, the lift doors opening and closing and the next thing I know, Bonnie is sitting beside me, trying to comfort me. I lean into her. She feels so much like Katniss. I start to calm down. She whispers soothing words into my blonde hair, just like Katniss did, only, it's a different voice, a different person. Not Katniss. I still accept the comfort of her arms and soon enough, I'm no longer crying. I stay in her arms though, needing her warmth. After a while I whisper,

"It's not fair." Like a 6 year old.

"No, none of its fair. The fact that our world is like this, lying, thieving, none of it is." She says into my hair, reminding me even more of Katniss.

I sob and then say,

"That's exactly what she would say..."

I don't need to say her name for her to know I mean Katniss.

I sit there for a little while longer and then I pull away from her. Her face is sad.

"What is it?"

"Nothing, you just remind me so much of my little sister, Clarette. She died in the district eight uprising."

"Well, you remind me so much of my elder sister, Katniss, who think I died in the uprising of all the districts to the Capitol."

She smiles sadly. I return one. I realize she's turned off the TV. It's just us two, silently crying. In that moment, all the sadness drops as we smile at each other. Then she gets up and turns away and it returns. She wipes the tears from my face. Just like Katniss.

She pulls me up and takes me over to the elevator, pressing the ground floor button.

"What are we doing?"

"I thought, as its a lovely summers day, we might go looking in the woods. Is that ok?"

Just like Katniss, I think again.

"I guess, as long as we aren't hunting." Then I remember what Coin said about the electric fence. Was it electric? I couldn't remember. I tell Bonnie.

"We'll find a way through." She simply says. Just like Katniss.

We step out of the elevator, walk through the kitchen and are about to leave when I stop.

"Wait! Lets leave a note in case Twill wakes up and is wondering where we are."

Bonnie agrees so we write a note, telling twill we are scouting the perimeters. We leave it on the kitchen bench and head out the door. As we walk, we start talking.

"What about the rest of your family, apart from your sister?"

"They were all killed in the same bomb as Clarette."

I nod sadly.

"My dad died when I was young, but I didn't have as much as a connection with him as Katniss."

After that we walk in silence. We soon reach the end of the property, but all there is is a wood fence. The I remember what coin said about the other one farther away, so I tell Bonnie. She shrugs and says,

"Well, don't worry, we'll see it before we run into it."

We climb the wood fence and jump onto the other side and continue walking.

"What about Twill?"

"Her husband went down in the same bomb."

"How'd it kill so many, all your family and Twill's but not you?"

She sighs and I see her eyes fill with tears. I realize that I was asking too many painful questions so I just leave her.

After a while walking, she suddenly talks.

"That day... Me and Twill were late. Twill used to be my school teacher and we were both caught up from our shifts at the factory, a street had been blown up so there was a road blockage. We ended up getting around it and we walked towards the factory. About a street away from it we heard an ear splitting boom." She pauses, taking a shaky breath. "We ran around to the factory but..." Tears run down her face.

"It's ok, you don't need to say any more, if it hurts." I say, putting a hand on her shoulder.

She gives me a sad, shaky smile.

"That's what my sister would say."

We walk in silence for a little while more then she continues.

"We came to the factory, but it wasn't there any more. Neither were our families. We fled district 8, scraping barely any food and fled on the trains to district 6 where we followed the tracks to the outskirts of twelve where we had to stop because I sprained my ankle. There we met Katniss, hunting. She gave us more food and water and a few days later we continued walking. We managed to find a few edible plants and Katniss also taught twill how to hunt and we ate some squirrels and things."

She said and things quietly making me think what they ate wasn't nice.

"Then we got to thirteen."

She doesn't need to tell me what happened after that. She's told me already.

We keep walking for ages but no fence. Where is it? Then I suddenly stop, pulling Bonnie back.

"What? What is it?"

I stare at the space of thin air in front of us, then I see it again. A small waver, barely seeable but still there. A force feild.

"There is a forcefield in front of us."

"What? How can you tell?"

"Katniss taught me."

"Where did she learn?"

"Beetee and Wiress showed her. Before her second games."

She looks at me in disbelief.

"Katniss went in a second hunger games?"

Then I remember how long she'd been out of the loop.

"Yes, the Capitol made it for her and Peeta as revenge for the berries, hoping they'd be killed."

"But they didnt?"

"No."

"How?"

I sigh.

"Long story. It involves district thirteen, a hovercraft, the Capitol manipulating peters brain and a whole bunch of other stuff."

Her eyes go wider. I shrug.

"Later."

Our attention turns back to the forcefield.

I throw a rock at it. It bounces back, like there's a glass wall there. So it's not the you-touch-you-die type of forcefield, just the, touch-you-get-bounced-back type.

I walk toward it. Just as I thought, as I gain contact, I feel a tiny zap and I get bounced back. I look up. It stretches high, about 3 meters above the tree tops. I spot one tree which just about lines up with the top of it. I start climbing. Bonnie follows.

I get to the top, the branches swaying under my weight. I stay clinging to the trunk, terrified they are going to fall under me. Instead they stop swaying as much so I start walking up it. I get as far as possible and then, with all the strength I have, I jump over the field. I land stubbornly in the top of another tree on the other side and slide down, like a fire pole.

I turn and watch Bonnie gracefully leap over the field and slide down a different tree.

"Do you think that's the fence she was talking about?" She asks.

"I think so. I'm not sure."

"Well, we're past it now, meaning we'll be able to do a bit of hunting. I bet that forcefield kept all the animals out."

She was right. As soon as we had gotten over the forcefield, animals were everywhere. Birds in the trees, insects on the floor, and plenty of squirrels and rabbits. This would be a great place for hunting.

"We have to tell Twill about this."

I nod in agreement.

We walk for a while longer, until the sun is high above our heads and then we find a small pond. Bonnie gasps and tries to pull me away, but I rip away from her and look at what she had gasped at.

Primroses line the edge of the pond, and as I look closer, I see flowering Katniss. Primrose and Katniss.

I walk to the edge and kick my sandals off my feet, slowly putting them in the cool, clear, water. Fish swim underneath my feet, tickling and I giggle. Bonnie comes over and joins me.

"It's weird, isn't it."

"What's weird?" She replies.

"This," I say, waving my hand around me,"the fact that primrose and Katniss grows here, right near where Coin traps me."

"Do you think she did it?"

"No. This place looks uninhabited, like no-one has ever been here before. It's nice."

"Mmm. Very."

Slowly, I put my hands in the water, and then...

"Hey! You splashed me!"

I laugh and she splashes me back.

"Oh, it's on!"

We splash each other until we're both soaking wet and then Bonnie yells,

"Truce! Truce!"

"Oh, fine then." I giggle at her, realizing she has a bit of seaweed on her head.

"What? What's so funny?"

I laugh out loud and point at her head. She takes it off.

"Oh, very funny, Primrose!"

She picks a flower and dribbles the petals on my head. I brush them off and we get up.

We laugh and joke and tease each other all the way to the forcefield. We climb over and head back up to the house, still joking and teasing. When we get back to the house we go straight to the elevator and hit level two. We find a towel cupboard and dry off, I get some dry clothes and we change into them. We're still joking and laughing as we go upstairs to the entertainment room, where we pull out a board game and try and figure out how to play. We end up working it out and I win, so she has to give me a back rub.

In the end, Twill comes up and finds us head over heels in pillow fluff because we had a pillow fight. She sighs and starts to clean up and tells us to go downstairs and pick a movie to watch from the library. We debate over what to watch and I find a movie about the book I was reading so she agrees to it. We make our way back upstairs and by the time we've got it all set up, Twills finished cleaning and the sun is setting. I go down and get some dried apricots to share for dinner and we settle watching the movie, Bonnie joking about how unrealistic it is and me telling her to be quiet. After the movie, I'm half asleep so Bonnie carries me downstairs and lies me in bed, the next thing I know, I'm dreaming, not of anything to do with the presidents or Katniss, just of Bonnie, me and Twill, going on a picnic with dried apples, to the pond, me joking all the way with Bonnie.

She reminds me of someone. Her personality is a slight bit different but she still reminds me of....

Katniss.
