Chapter 11

We give Max a room with pale blue sheets and a double bed and then we leave him to unpack, going downstairs to check out the things. I open the bag with my possessions and pull out an old photo frame with a picture of my mother, father, and Katniss and me at young ages. I then pull out an album full of pictures of Katniss and my mother and somehow Coin managed to get a picture of a few of my old school friends, Harriet, Milo, London and Percy. How did she even know my old school friends? Asked around, I guess. I wasn't sure about London but I knew milo had died in the bombs of twelve. Percy and Harriet had definitely made it to thirteen, but I had rarely seen them at all. I was always busy helping with the hospital and they were always off doing their choresS. I looked at the pictures, a few old ones mum had taken with the five of us, and seperate ones with me and Percy. We were always best friends while the others we met in third grade.

I flip another page and I come across a picture of a smiling Katniss, with me in the meadow. It's strange on her face. So rare. She's beautiful with a smile though. I find another, empty, photo frame in the bag and I slip out the picture, putting it into the frame. I place it on the bench along with an old arrowhead that was in the bottom of the bag. I assume it was from one of Katniss's arrows. I then go back to the album but there is only one more photo in the back. It's one of my mother and Katniss and me, taken just a few days before the 74th games, the ones that changed our lives. I flick the album closed and look at the other things in the bag.

There is a plastic flower, an old hair clip and a heart shaped locket with the letters PE engraved on it. Primrose Everdeen. I remember when I got this for my 9th birthday. It was a gift from Gale.

There's also my battered old teddy bear from when I was young. It must have escaped the bombing. I have no clue why Coin put it in. Didn't she know I was 13 not 3? I put it back in the bag with the album and the other things and put it outside the lift to remember to take it up.

I go and look at the food that twill is unzipping. Inside is some bread with a note on it, 'everlasting, no-mould no-mess white bread'. There are three loaves, the other two multigrain and brown bread. There is also everlasting jam, honey and peanut butter as well as some more packets of dried fruit (yay, more banana chips) and a large packet of potato chips. Cereal in little boxes are in the side pockets as well as a few dried herons and spices and a bottle of ketchup.

Twill opens the other one to reveal a freezer bag containing a large selection of chicken, pork and beef as well as two bottles of milk and a few bottles of different flavored juices. Apple, orange, pineapple, and my favorite, apple and black current.

"We'll live, don't you think girls? It's not exactly gonna last us long with four people but with me hunting and the apples and raspberries, we can make it all last about a week or two."

"Yeah. And she'a going to bring more every once in a while so we'll be ok." Bonnie says.

"So what's that one?" She asks, pointing at the remaining bag.

"Oh yeah, that's the cat things, they're delivering Buttercup tomorrow."

"Cool. Shall we unload them, then?" Twill says.

"Yes. We shall!"

We zip open the bag and inside is a fluffy scratching post, a kind of castle kennel type thing, 2 bags of kitty litter and a kitty litter box, a bag of Capitol cat food and a bowl with buttercups around the edges.

"Wow! I've never had so many things for him before! He's never even had a scratching post, apart from the tree out back of our house that is."

We set the kitty litter box downstairs next to the kitchen and the scratching post next to it then we take up the kennel thing and put it in my room. I also take the bag of my things up and unpack it. I place my old teddy bear on my bed and it looks strangely comforting. I place the flower on my bedside table and the album on the cupboard under the shelf. I also put the locket around my neck and the hair clip in my hair. I then go upstairs to find Max lying on the couch watching a bike race.

"You seem to be getting comfortable." I say, punching him on the shoulder lightly.

He laughs and punches me back.

"Thanks kiddo. Did you know you have ALL the Capitol channels?"

"Yep and access to ALL the security cameras in the districts."

"Security cameras? Why would you need those?"

"So I can see Katniss or my mother, wherever they are." I say fiercely.

"Oh right, of course, sorry." He says, looking at his feet.

"But the only channel I've been watching is this." I say, grabbing the remote and changing it to the news channel. I gasp. On screen is a very distressed Katniss.

"Look, I'm not blaming anyone but President snow but honestly, why was she in there in the first place? Why didn't anyone stop her? I gave her strict orders that she couldn't help with the medics. And now look what's happened!" She says, starting to cry. They were talking about me,

"Katniss, I didn't mean to upset you. I've asked all my interviewee's this. I didn't want you to get upset."

"Well, I am! Now I'm leaving." She says, jumping up and storming off stage. I put my head to my knees and max turns the TV off. I've cried so much in the past week, I think I've run out of tears. But I haven't. They come like Niagara falls. At one point Bonnie and twill come upstairs and they run over and try to comfort me but I don't let them. However alike Bonnie and Katniss are, they're different. I don't want a substitute. I want Katniss.
