Tent

Tent

The old tent still sits in the garage

High, on the highest shelf

Many times I've wanted to throw it away

But I would be disposing a piece of myself

I still smile when I see it there

Though I know it's faded, musky and torn

Strings broken, pegs lost, poles bent

Yet every time I see it, memories are reborn

Our first camping trip

When it was brand new

When I first said

I love you

On our honeymoon

That's where we wanted to be

It was a 5 star hotel

To you and me

And every summer

The kids and us

Would spend two weeks

It was such a fuss

Even when they were older

They tagged along

With kids of their own

It's where we all belonged

But now, it sits high on a shelf

Full of cobwebs, dust and time

A memory of how it used to be

Now silent in its decline

I know I should throw it out

But I don't need the space

Now, I'm all alone, you are gone

When I see it,
I see your face
