Lilac Light

the Lilac Light

While shovelling winter's latest offering

One frosty, clear, evening

I noticed a single speck of light

Trapped between the skeletal arms

Of our sleeping lilac tree

Hypnotized, I watched

As it bounced limb to limb

Caught in the near invisible threads

Of an abandoned spider web

I walked through the knee deep snow

Oblivious

To the chilling snow seeping into my boots

I knelt

Winter's blanket surrounding me

The speck of light stopped moving

As if trying to hide

Somehow blend into the darkness

Of the evening

I took off my gloves

And reached toward the speck

It pulled back

As far as it could

To the very extreme edge of the web

Still embraced within

My finger touched the web

It reverberated slightly

The speck of light rocking slowly

Like a boat on a lake

In a mild breeze

It's color changed

Seemingly drawing energy

From my touch

From white

To soft blue

To lilac

As if trying to hide

In the sleeping limbs

Or radiate the beauty

Hidden within

My eyes stared at the light

It was as if I was one with it

Seeing the beauty of this world

As only it could see it

Through eternity

The image faded

As did the light

Lilac

Soft blue

White

It's internal life slowly

Continued to fade

The evenings darkness

Was claiming

It's soul

Gently

I broke the web's grasp

The speck of light

Fell into my hand

I could see the life returning

The colors changing

Once again

Drawing from within my soul

I stood slowly

Holding my hand as high as I could

There was a momentary flash

A brief illumination

Extreme

And it was gone

I searched the sky

For my speck of light

But it was lost

Yet found

Among the millions

Of other specks

In the evening sky

I pulled the remainder of the web

From the lilac tree

No other speck of light

Would become entangled
