I Wanna Be Back Home Again

I Wanna Be Back Home Again

I wanna be back home again

To see trees blowing in the wind

And smell the salt air

As it blows against my face

To hear the sound of laughter

And for now and ever after

Reach for the stars

From my own place

Just a young man when I went away

But I don't recall a single day

When my thoughts didn't drift back home

The smell of supper in the air

And my whole family gathered there

While I sit in this trailer all alone

I can still see the ocean blue

And there's sweet darling Amy too

Her long blonde hair blowing in the wind

I remembered she cried so hard the day

I told her, "Amy I'm going away.

But dry those tears I'll be back again"

I wanna be back home again

To see trees blowing in the wind

And smell the salt air

As it blows against my face

To hear the sound of laughter

And for now and ever after

Reach for the stars

From my own place

Been twenty years since I left home

And I've lost this old urge to roam

I feel that it's time to settle down

I've heard Amy still lives alone

Down by the bay in the family home

I think I'll go see her when I hit town

Like sands through the glass of time

I know now what I want as mine

Miles from here where I'm not alone

As each year begins and ends

This highway's been my only friend

Now I'm taking my friend and going home

I wanna be back home again

To see trees blowing in the wind

And smell the salt air

As it blows against my face

To hear the sound of laughter

And for now and ever after

Reach for the stars

From my own place
