Clear view Lake

at 14 years old

Mary Lou was bold

and took a chance

a much older boy

caught her eye

and promised her romance

the romance was brief

and in his car's back seat

he took advantage of young Mary Lou

and when he was done

he told her to run

the short lived romance was through

a month passed by

and the million tears cried

did not prepare her for what was to be

a quick doctor's call

he told her all

you, Mary Lou, are having a baby

she told the boy

he laughed and sighed

"it ain't my baby, bitch", he said

he walked away

she cried all day

a million thoughts in her head

she needed a friend

and in the end

someone to help her through

older sister just yelled

said, "go to hell"

"I haven't got time for you"

Dad was no help

slurred words just yelped

he was far, far from sober

Mom was glued

to the TV tube

said, "wait till my show is over"

Mary Lou was confused

didn't know what to do

and no one seemed to care

many hours passed

before Mom went to ask

but Mary Lou was not there

many weeks passed by

many tears were cried

wondering what was Mary Lou's fate

Mary Lou was at peace

covered by watery sheets

at the bottom of Clearview Lake
