Chapter 3: The impossible mission

After Klink called the guards to bring in team RWBY Hogan and the others began to think of a way to keep the girls in camp for the mission. The only annoyance Hogan kept dealing with is all-too-eager prisoners of war wanting to have one-on-one time with a gal. None of the girls shared the same eagerness. He was trying to think of something when Shultz came in to gather up the four young teenagers and bring them to Klink's office.

"Remember, girls; name, rank, and measurements." Hogan said to them. "That is all."

"Got it." Ruby said with a thumbs up. "But, what does my measurements have to do with anything?" Five faces express shock/confusion at her. "What?" she shrugs.

"Colonel Hogan, kommandant Klink wants to see the girls." Shultz said.

Hogan nods at them, "Alright. Go with Shultz."

Grudgingly, and rather hesitantly, they do.

But as the four enter Klink's office they see a grumpy little man dressed in black and his name is Hochstetter. He's glaring right at them. This startles Ruby, and she can't stop herself from screaming, "GRIMM!!!!"

The girls start to take fighting positions, then realize they have no weapons to fight with. At the same time, Ruby's scream startles everyone else in the room that is unfamiliar with the vicious creatures on Remnant.

"What's grimm!" Hochsetter yelled back.

"WHO ARE YOU?!?!?" Yang asked.

Klink says, in a calmer voice, "Ladies, this is Major Hochstetter, Gestapo."

All four of them don't move for a moment, then simultaneously tilt their heads and go, "Huh?"

Ruby asked, "What's a Gas-top-oh? Do you fill gas tanks to the top, or what?"

Yang asked, pointing a finger in the man's face, "And what's with that fuzzy worm on your face?"

"GGGGAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Hochstetter growled. "I will be the one asking questions and you will give me answers, first of all what are your names?!"

"Ruby."

"Weiss."

"Blake."

"Yang."

All four said at the same time, "We're team RWBY."

"Team? What team?" Klink asked in severe confusion.

"Team RWBY!" Ruby said. "How can you not know that?"

"Klink will you shut up?" The major said.

"Ya, Klink will you shut up?" Yang asked in a BAD German accent, causing all the other girls to laugh. Neither of the men felt the same. Before anything else could be said, Hogan barged in the room.

"Colonel, I have a complaint."

"Not now Hogan were in the middle of something right now!" Klink said.

"Ah shut up!" Ruby and Yang said together.

I don't think a human can possibly look more red in the face than the Major was at that moment. It was like cherry red.

"What is this man doing here?" The Major asked.

"I just told you, I have a complaint." Hogan said. "The boys and I think you're keeping the girls in here too long. If it's alright with you, we'd like to keep them company."

"Colonel Hogan, it is against regulations for prisoners to fraternize with other prisoners, dismissed." Klink said.

"Colonel Klink, I protest. For one thing you brought them into our barracks. For another, you made that one up. Shame on you, in front of a Gestapo officer no less!!"

"You're right, I did do that." Klink said, sitting down with his hands on his forehead, then he's up again, saying, "HOGAN!!!"

"What? It's the truth!"

"WHAT IS THIS MAN DOING HERE!?!?!?!?!"

"SHUT UP!!" all four girls, and MAYBE Hogan said it. But if you'd ask him, he'd deny it. But he totally did.

"Klink, we will have this meeting again another time." The Major growled. "But these girls are too uncooperative right now, but 30 days in the cooler will cool them down ja?"

"A excellent idea Major!" Klink said. "I will send them there now!"

Hogan turns to the girls, "Sorry, guess you're out of luck." Then he secretly winks at them. Weiss and Blake think he's hitting on them, Yang thinks he's nuts, and Ruby doesn't know what's going on at all.

Later in the cooler, each girl was in a separate room. Weiss was the only one that didn't look like she was freezing. (Being a Schnee can help with that in more way than one.) The only way to communicate is one on one between walls. Even then, it's hard to hear.

Ruby said, teeth chattering, "I'm cold."

"What'd she say?" Yang asked.

Weiss, yelled, "Ruby said she's cold!"

"Huh?" Ruby and Yang said.

"Blake said, "Yang, Ruby's cold."

"What'd you say Blake?" Yang asked.

"RUBY IS COLD."

"Old? What do you mean Ruby's old? She's 16!"

"NOT OLD! COLD!"

"OH. Well, tell her I'm bored."

"Weiss, Yang said she's bored." Blake said.

"Huh?" Weiss asked.

"BORED!"

"You're sore? Where?"

Blake groaned. "FORGET IT!!!"

"WHAT?!?" The other three said at the same time.

In Ruby's cell, the table against the wall moved further into the room to reveal an opening behind the cinder block the table was attached to. "GUYS!" She screamed. "THERE'S A HOLE IN MY WALL!!"

"What's a mole doing in you're fall?" Weiss asked.

"What'd Ruby say?" Blake asked.

"She said there's a mole in her fall."

"A foal in her paw?"

"What?" Yang asked.
"Ruby's got a foal in her paw!" Blake shouted.

"RUBY'S GOT PAWS!?!?!?!?" Yang yelled, hair ablaze in shock.

"NO!!!" Even Ruby was able to hear THAT.

Shultz yells over them all, "ALRIGHT! QUIET!!!" There's silence for a moment. "Jolly jokers." He mutters to himself as he goes back over to his corner and sits back down.  Meanwhile, Hogan creeps in and gives Ruby the "shh!" sign.

When he's close enough, Ruby slaps him. In a loud whisper, she says, "How dare you enter without knocking! You scared me half to death!"

"What?" Blake says.

"NOT YOU!!" Ruby shouts.

Schultz grumbles something, and all the girls say, "NOTHING! GO BACK TO SLEEP!"

"Oh, ok." Schultz mutters as he goes back to snoring.

"Sorry, I didn't know that was a problem." Hogan whispers back.

"What are you even doing here?" Ruby asks.

"Just wanna talk. Which one of you is in charge?"

"Me." Ruby says. Hogan arches an eyebrow. "What? I know I'm younger than they are, but they trust me."

"Then I guess I'm in the right place. Krauts say you girls just showed up out of nowhere. What I wanna know is how did four American teenagers end up in Germany without anyone knowing about it?"

"What's an American? What's a Germany? What are you talking about?"

Hogan just looks at her. "Do you really not know about the war?"

"I guess not. Mind telling me what's going on here?" Ruby.

"If you tell me your side of the story."

"Deal. But I'll need my team with me. They'll wanna hear it too."

"Not a problem. I'll get the boys too." Hogan turns back to the hole he came out of, Carter sticking his head in. Carter heard part of the conversation, and was shocked to hear the last bit. Hogan tells the guy, "Carter?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Go get the girls out of the other cells, bring them here, then I want you to round up the boys as well. There's some things we need to go over."

"Ok, Colonel. I can't believe they ain't never known about the war. EVERYBODY's heard of the war. Both of them!"

"Carter, go get the others."

"Yes sir. Boy. They ain't never heard of the war." Carter says, as he starts to crawl away to get the others.

A few minutes later, Carter starts whimpering. He had reached Yang's cell. (You figure out the rest of that bit.) "Sorry. Just don't sneak up on me." Yang says to him. Carter gets her to follow him, and he next reaches Weiss. She gives his cheek some ice, ("Let me guess, you ran into Yang before me? Thought so.") and she went with him. But not before nearly summoning a giant soldier to her defense when startled by the moving cinderblock. Luckily, she doesn't hurt him. As for Blake, she does get startled, but she leaps away when it started moving. When she saw Carter, she relaxed. "I think you're digging in the wrong direction."

"I'm not trying to escape."

"Well, since you're here, I guess that means I won't be staying in this cell?"

"I don't know. You'd have to ask the Colonel about that one." Carter says. In all honesty, Carter hardly ever knows anything for sure, except that he loves bombs going off.

"Fine." She too went. Carter left the girls with Hogan and Ruby, then used the tunnels to gather up the boys. Each one is eager to see them, and to find an excuse to use the tunnels. They clearly love what they do, despite there being a war on.

And so Hogan and team RWBY exchange questions for answers.

"What planet are we on?" Ruby asks.

"Earth. Why do you ask?" Hogan says.

"We're from a planet called Remnant. What's with the prison camps?" Weiss says.

"We're in the middle of a world war. The second one to be exact. How did you get here?" LeBeu asks.

"Lab explosion. It was Yang's fault." Blake points her thumb at Yang.

"HEY!" Yang says.

"Who are you at war with, and why?" Blake continues. Hogan and his men give the short version as to who the Germans are, how it got started, and who the good guys are. They also include the why.

"Your turn. When you saw Hochstetter, you said grim. What's that supposed to mean?" Newkirk says.

"How'd you know about that?" Ruby asks.

"Klink's office is bugged. Please answer the question." Hogan says.

"Grimm is our enemy back on Remnant. They're kinda like what your German enemies sound like." Yang says.

"Except Grimm are far worse. These Germans are people. Grimm are monsters of darkness." Ruby says. Blake finds a piece of paper, and asks for something to write with. She sketches as the others keep talking. Yang asks, "How come you guys aren't busy trying to escape?"

"We have a job to do here. We're double agents, you could say." Hogan says.

"Interesting." Weiss says. "But I don't see how one could be a double agent as a prisoner of war."

"You'd be surprised. Besides, I ain't told you everything we do here, and trust me, there's quite a bit to it. Tell me more about these Grimm."

Blake finishes up, and shows it to Hogan. It's a sketch of a few of the many types of Grimm they've encountered. Pointing to each one, Blake names them, and gives a little info about them. "This is a Beowolf. Really big, really strong. Go for the neck. Beringel. Really tough. Hard to kill, but you want to go for the back. Boarbatusk. Pretty fast. Go for the belly. Death Stalker. Cut off the stinger and shoot the belly. Aim for the heart. Nevermore. Freeze and decapitate. And this one is a giant snake, known as a King Tajitu. Remove the fangs and use them to kill it." She puts the paper down. "These are just the ones we've encountered."

Kinch then remembers something, and reaches into his pocket. "Message from the underground, Colonel."

Hogan takes the paper from him, and reads aloud. "'New anti-aircraft ammunition being used on the flack guns guarding the V-1 rocket factory. Destroy at all costs.' We'll that's just great!"

The others all at once go "SHHHH!" There's a moment of silence, listening if Schultz is waking up or not. But thankfully, his snoring continues. You could feel the internal sighs of relief coming from all of them.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Ruby asks quietly.

"It means we could be in trouble." Carter tells them.
