the yells of happy new year rang loud and clear in jaehyun's ear as he downed another cup of vodka, avoiding couples all around him who were sucking each others face off. his cheeks were red and he had started giggling as he imagined them as octopuses sucking each others face. it was the most funniest thing in the world to him at that moment.

until he heard someone laughing next to him too. a girl maybe around his age, clearly drunk was laughing so hard tears were starting to spill out of her eyes. jaehyun narrowed his eyes at her, suddenly becoming bolder than he usually was as he got up and walked over to her.

" you ", he pointed the bottle in his hand to her. " what are you laughing at huh? ". he stared at her waiting for an answer, instead she took the hand in his bottle and drank the remaining liquid. it was her turn to point at the sea of people and say they looked like octopuses.

jaehyun's face lit up with a smile as he took a seat next to her. " wanna play a drinking game? ", she asked him. jaehyun was not in the state of mind to ask her name or ponder on a question for long, he nodded his head almost immediately at her. tonight he was going to drink his lingering feelings for yoohyeon away.

" everytime you see a couple walk through that door you take a shot, deal? ". deal, he clinked his glass against hers and so began a night of two drunk adults who barely knew each other play a drinking game together.

" honestly why are you even here where's the pretty girlfriend for a pretty guy like you ". her words came out all slurry. she pushed away her drink and placed her head on the table instead. eyes fluttering slowly. she was starting to get sleepy.

" your neck's gonna hurt if you sleep like that ", he avoided answering her question, afraid she'd take him for a fool if he told about his past relationship. he had heard enough from his friends, he wasn't about to hear a stranger yell at him too.

jaehyun pulled the stranger towards him, placing her head on his shoulder slowly to not wake her up. he had enough experience of sleeping on tables and the pain that followed after. he looked down at his hands as words slipped out of his mouth, his mind letting it's guard down. not realising that his words weren't going unnoticed.

just as he was about to doze off, his head on her's, jaehyun heard the words " i'm here for you ", and the weight of another hand on his.

unbeknownst to the pair, this night was the start to a friendship that slowly bloomed into love. love that would heal their broken hearts.
