Chapter 20
There was a long moment of silence as Kakashi finished telling Sakumo about his life. How he met and lost his team, how he met you and Naruto, how he fell in love with you, his adventures, everything he felt throughout his life, and the fact you both were going to have a son named Rai. All that was heard during their silence was the cracking sound from the fire in front of them. Sakumo smiled from every word Kakashi shared with him, even from the fact his grandson took his name.
"I never imagined both you and I would die so young." Sakumo spoke as he never dreamed of talking to Kakashi like this after he took his life. Kakashi stayed silent as he felt calm, the only things he regretted was not being able to say goodbye to you, watch his son be brought into the world, and watch him grow so he could guide him the way he wished his father did.
"Not as young as your mother, however." Sakumo sighed as thoughts of his wife came into his mind.
"Dad, I've always wanted to ask you something." Kakashi spoke as he thought of the moments he last shared with Obito about those who didn't save their friends are worse than trash. Sakumo looked at his son questionably, waiting for the question he knew Kakashi would ask.
"Why did my father, the legendary White Fang of the Leaf, break its law by choosing to abandon the mission to save his friends? Had you not, you wouldn't have been condemned by the others, nor would you have locked yourself up. I was so frustrated..." Kakashi spoke as he remembered finding his father's dead body in the middle of the room during a stormy night, clenching his fist as all his emotions has spiraled from losing his father.
"I see. It was tough for you as well, huh?" Sakumo spoke with a sad, regretful tone in his voice. Not realizing that leaving his son behind, consumed by his own depression, had caused him so much pain as well.
"Yeah... But you know, Dad... no matter what happened, you gave it all. I understand that now. Today I'm proud of my dad... who broke the law to save his friends." Kakashi smiled as he spoke to his father, letting all the anger he had once felt fade away as he now understood why his father had done what he did. Sakumo watched Kakashi as his eyes widened from every word he spoke, shocked to receive the opposite reaction he thought he would get.
"Thank you, son." Sakumo spoke with relief in his voice as he turned back towards the fire. They both continued to sit in the peaceful silence of the fire as they have finally repaired the bond they had thought had longed died with Sakumo on that night. Suddenly, a green light shot and surrounded Kakashi.
"This is...!" Kakashi spoke as he felt life slowly return to him. He looked at his father with a shocked expression. Sakumo only smiled at his son.
"It looks like it's not your time just yet. You must still have things to take care of." Sakumo smiled as he felt relieved that Kakashi was getting another chance at life.
"Dad..."
"Go, Kakashi. Be there for your family. Raise your son the way I wish I could've with you..." Kakashi watched his father as it became clear. He thought about you and the baby and clenched his fist. Kakashi was going home.
"I'm glad I got to speak with you. Thank you for forgiving me." Sakumo said as he watched Kakashi slowly start to fade into the light.
"I can now move on." Sakumo smiled at Kakashi before he disappeared along with the light. He stood up as he watched the fire dimmed and his consciousness become lighter.
"I'll finally get to see your mother." Sakumo spoke as it echoed in Kakashi's mind before suddenly waking up in the Leaf. He sat up as Choji watched him come back to life. He looked around and saw the village reduced to rubble.
"Dad!" Choji screamed to his father Choza, causing him to run towards the two.
"You too, Kakashi?" Choza spoke as Kakashi just looked at him confused about the entire situation. He then shifted his direction to Choji, who began to break down into tears from the happiness he felt.
"Thank... Thank goodness, Kakashi-sensei!" Choji spoke with emotion as he wiped his tears away. Katsuyu, a slug that Tsunade summons, had spread out to all the civilians to explain the situation that was occurring. A smaller version of her had approached Kakashi and the others.
"I'll explain everything." Katsuyu spoke softly to them. Kakashi looked at her questionably before she started going into detail about Naruto's battle with Nagato.
~ Time Skip ~
After Naruto had returned from talking to Nagato, everyone in the village had celebrated his victory, for saving their lives. Naruto was happy to be praised for what he did but he knew he couldn't fully be happy without his sister, safe by his side.
Naruto, along with Kakashi and some others, were in the tent where Tsunade had been resting. Due too using almost all of her stored chakra, Tsunade had fallen into a coma. As to her waking up, it was unknown so there was only one option left in the situation.
"We will have to appoint the next Hokage, at least until Tsunade wakes up." Shikaku spoke to the group as most of their expressions were either concerned and upset.
"There isn't any time to wait for someone to appoint the next Hokage! I need to go and find Nee-chan!" Naruto spoke with frustration in his voice as he was starting to become desperate to save his sister. The longer they wait, the less chances they would have in finding her.
"Wait, what do you mean find (Name)? What happened to her? Isn't she in Mount Myoboku?" Kakashi began to panic as Naruto couldn't bring himself to look at Kakashi. He knew he messed up and felt ashamed that he couldn't protect (Name).
"Before I came to the Leaf to fight Pain... Some intruders has gotten into Mount Myoboku and attacked us. It didn't become clear until it was too late... Their objective was to take Nee-chan." Naruto's words had stung Kakashi as his eyes widened. Fukasaku was also present along with Shima due to the matter at hand.
"To make matters worse, during the attack, (Name) had gone into Labor and gave birth to your son. By the time we arrived to protect her and the child... it had already been too late... (Name) and the baby were gone." Fukasaku spoke sadly, regretting that he couldn't do anything to stop the enemy from taking Kakashi's family. Naruto had stepped up to Kakashi while frowning.
"I may not know who the other guys were, but Kyokan was definitely there to prevent me from reaching Nee-chan. She was working with a bunch of weak goons." Naruto said, hoping that this detail could possibly reveal who (Name)'s kidnappers are. When Kakashi heard Kyokan's name, he automatically thought about Satoru. His anger began to rise at the thought of Satoru trying to harm you or Rai.
"If that's the case, then (Name)'s mission isn't as over as we initially thought. Shikaku, my family is in danger. We really do not have the luxury of waiting around just to receive permission to save them!" Kakashi spoke with sharpness in his tone. Shikaku sighed as he realized the difficult situation that they were in.
"Man... what a drag. It's just one bad situation into another. Dad, are you sure there isn't anything we can do to save (Name)-sensei? Technically, Lady Tsunade did give orders to protect her." Shikamaru said as he was twisting Tsunade's words from before so then the group's opening to save (Name) wouldn't close.
"Heh. Alright, since these are the Hokage's orders then I have no choice." Shikaku smirked as the group smiled. Kakashi sighed until Gai wrapped his arm over Kakashi's shoulder and smiled.
"Well, you can't leave me out of this one, Kakashi! My godson is in trouble and he's my responsibility too!" Gai smiled, earning a smile in return from Kakashi. He looked at everyone in the room and felt so much gratitude for their help.
"Thank you, everyone." Kakashi spoke while smiling. As the moment ended, everyone gathered around so then Shikamaru could explain his plan to the team.
Poof!
Before they could even turn around to react to the sudden cloud of smoke, a loud cry from a baby filled the room. Kakashi's heart sank when he heard the cry. As the smoke cleared, he was now face to face with the baby. Kimi had him in front of her while she was panting. Kakashi approached the baby slowly while shaking. His gut was telling him more than ever that this was definitely his son.
He kneeled in front of the baby and scooped him into his arms. The baby's cry slowly died down as he opened his eyes to reveal the same (e/c) eyes like (Name)'s. Kakashi's breathe hitched as he held the baby tighter.
"Rai..!" Kakashi exhaled in relief. He kissed his son's forehead and held his index finger for Rai to hold. Naruto and Shizune ran to Kakashi's side to see the baby. Naruto's eyes started to fill with tears of joy to see that the baby was unharmed.
"Kakashi, let me check the baby to see if he's okay. Sakura, bring some supplies from the medical tent, along with a blanket to cover Rai in." Shizune spoke as Kakashi slowly gave Rai to her, not wanting to let him go. Sakura nodded and stood up from beside Tsunade and ran out of the tent. Kakashi's attention immediately returned to Kimi.
"Kimi, where's (Name)? Why did you only show up with my son?" Kakashi spoke with a serious tone. Kimi began to whimper because she knew that getting Rai to safety was your priority over your own well being.
"I don't know where she is exactly, but that cloth Rai is wrapped around is a piece of her dress that she ripped off. We can trace her using that. As to why I only came with Rai... I tried to convince her into escaping but she told me she only had enough chakra to summon me and save Rai. She told me that she would find another way to escape, to take him to Mount Myoboku to leave him in the Toad Sage's care. But he told me to leave him with his father or Naruto, that the battle in the Leaf was over. That's why I'm here now..." Kimi said sadly as Kakashi pet her. He sighed because he understood your actions, but that didn't make him less worried.
"Then we'll assemble a small 4 man squad to look for her. Shikaku, I know you're needed here for the decision on the next Hokage. I'll be taking Gai, Neji, and Shikamaru to rescue (Name)." Kakashi spoke as he stood up, earning some nods from the group. However, Naruto did not like the fact he wasn't included.
"What about me, Kakashi-sensei?! I want save Nee-chan too!" Naruto yelled in frustration. He was determined to redeem himself after letting you get taken under his protection. Kakashi sighed and rested his hand on Naruto's shoulder before speaking to him. Lee stood beside Naruto with the same energy.
"I would like to come along as well! We don't know the enemies numbers. Both myself and Naruto could be more muscle for the group!"
"We still don't know if there's any remaining Akatsuki members out there waiting for the perfect opportunity to take you. Not to mention that we need muscle here. It's best you both stay and protect the village in its time of vulnerability." Kakashi spoke, trying to reason with Naruto. He understood Naruto's feelings, better than anyone else. But Kakashi knew that he had to think about the risks they were about to take to save you. Naruto frowned and looked away from Kakashi, wanting to argue even more but knew it would be a waste of time.
"Just promise you'll bring her back, Kakashi-sensei.." Naruto spoke softly as he gave Kakashi a sad expression.
"I promise, I won't let my son grow up without his mother. Just rest... You've done more than enough." Kakashi smiled, easing Naruto's nerves slightly. He was still worried, but he knows that Kakashi always finds you.
~ To (Name) ~
You were unconscious on the ground, covered in cuts and bruises. Satoru exhaled as he performed a jutsu on you. Black chain markings surrounded your body, sealing your chakra completely. Once he made sure the jutsu was complete, he closed the cage you were in and sealed the walls of the room shut.
"I'll be damned if I let you escape a second time."
