Chapter 9: The Terms

Hello my beautiful readers! I am happy with where the story is going. I believe the characters are developing in their own respective manners. You will feel Sarah kind of being "Weird" and her whole character changing all a sudden so much. But trust me that is because of our little bastard Michael. (I wish I could kill him already!)

But guys good news is that I am thinking about doing daily updates. Because yes, I want to be kind towards you all.

Also I decided to do a Sarah's POV because I think her point of view was lagging behind.

Let this chapter have 60 comments!

Without further wait, Let's get this started.

These aesthetics are getting more and more difficult. I remember how I started with 4 pictures only.

 * Sarah's POV *

I felt myself look into the aged man's grave eyes. He was the one all these people feared. He was the one people joined to have people fear them.

I will do the same.

I am ready to do the same.

To become the devil who wants to break hell loose.

Feeling some sound to my left had me turn my head towards it, finding Elijah about to place his hand onto my shoulder. But before he could do it, my eyes were on him. Making him retrieve his hand back. He then motioned with his head for me to head out from the room. I did that without question. On my way out of the door, I heard Elijah heated voice all of a sudden.

"R! How could you do that? Give someone that Goddammed pain in the ass of a task which was supposed to be mine! R, You know what Adrik really are. You have dealt with them pretty much your whole life! How could you underestimate their strength and leave them to someone who doesn't even have any idea about what a gang really is? Let alone have experience. And on top of that you gave the responsibility to a girl. How can you even trust her?" Elijah's furious voice filled my ears. Somehow through all that, Mister Romero did seem to maintain his calm demeanor.

"Calm your young nerves Elijah. Keep the anger saved for the times when you would need it. Firstly, I never underestimate enemies. I overestimate them. That way I am always prepared for the worst. Secondly, I know it was your task. You are still the one who will be doing it with the girl. And lastly, I somehow do trust her." His voice ended with a hint of finality.

He trusts me. Why?

"You...huhhh...Okay..." Elijah became quiet. Next I found him coming out of the door, as I turned around to face him. He stopped abruptly and stared at me right in the eyes. Imitating my posture. We stood a few minutes like that. Until he sighed.

"Why are you glaring at me?" He asked.

"Do you don't like me being a woman?" I let the question slip through.

"What?...I never said anything like that." He countered.

"Do you not trust me?" I asked again.

"Why are you questioning me like I owe something to you?" He asked coming closer as his eyes blared with irritation.

"I am questioning you because I have the permission to. You are my partner for the task given to me by Mister Romero." I replied. Elijah's face took over with a pissed expression.

"Yeah I know! Stop rubbing it in my face Goddammit!" He growled grabbing my arm. The cuts began stinging and I had to fight to maintain a stable face when what I wanted to do was scream in pain.

"Leave my arm Mister Ralph" I said slowly.

"Yeah? Or what?" He challenged. I did the only quick thing I could do.

"ENZO!" My voice was loud enough for the man to come quickly into my line of visions. I didn't knew what his real name was, but the nickname did it anyway. "Could you please tell Mister Romero that Miss Sarah wishes to talk to him again about Mister Elijah being abusive towards her. Please make it quick. I wish this matter to be dealt with as soon as possible so we could start with the task." I said as smoothly as I can.

Elijah's grip on my arm loosened and he moved back. His eyes speaking languages of shock and disbelief. Even Enzo stood there with a weird look on his face.

I muttered a quick 'Thankyou' and then asked him to show me the terms of the treaty they wanted Adrik to agree on. Elijah told me that the paperwork was kept in a different room. When I asked him to take me there he told me it was only available to himself because it was his personal study. No one but R could go there. In serious circumstances, it was allowed to only upper gang members.

I wasn't an upper gang member.

"Well, I am hoping to become the upper gang member really soon. Besides you are my partner." I said with a look that displayed my aims. He then directed me towards the room and we went in. It was a pretty spacious room, with a few mahogany tables here and there. There were some deep blue sofas lining the walls. Some rugs took over the floor. A fireplace was built at the far end. Different shelves were placed in symmetrical manner.

This place screamed peace. And I don't think I need anything else more than that.

I moved forwards out of curiosity. Going to trace my fingers on the covers of all the books present there. "Do you read these?" I asked but only after that I realize what a stupid question that really is. Of course he does, why would he keep books if he didn't?

"I do sometimes...when I am not busy in gang stuff... Or sometimes I do to calm myself." He admitted hesitantly.

"Hmm...I am assuming you made these collections yourself, since it is your private study as you said earlier." I address him without looking at him but at the books.

"Yes." He answered, a hint of pride in it. And I tried to stop it. I really did, but I couldn't keep the smile spreading once I saw the title of one of the books I loved.

"So could you define your fondness for 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'?" I asked him, finally turning to meet his eyes. They suddenly sparked with a different kind of glint.

"To define is to limit." He said with a smile as bright as the sun making it's way onto his lips.

"I was partly wishing you'd get the question's reference." I smiled to myself while looking down, but then I felt it fade off, just as I saw the table littered with papers. We are here for looking at the terms, not for discussing iconic lines of books.

"Let's see the terms." I say as Elijah moves quickly to get the paper from one of his drawers. He brings it over to me and I carefully began reading it.

"This treaty is to last for 5 years. Until that time, neither gang is allowed to have any brawls with the other. Both the gangs, under any circumstances, are not allowed to enter into each other's territory without the permission of the one owning it. If they do, then the decision is on the other gang to do according to their will. During these five years, no spy can be sent in the other territory, because if found, then the treaty would be declared null. A new treaty may be carved then. Until a new treaty is carved, the gangs will have to abide to the substitution treaty which will have to be according to the other gang."

I stopped when I saw the ending line and then blank space for signature .

That's it? really?

"That's it? really?" I asked in surprise as I couldn't stop from speaking my mind.

"Yeah, Why? Is there a problem with it?" Elijah asked confused.

"No. But I feel it is useless to do so much to get them to agree to  only a few demands." I said.

"Oh really? May I ask for your noble opinion on what should be done to make the terms more satisfying to your majesty?" He asked mockingly.

"I think we should add more terms." I finally said. He suddenly began doing claps as his expression showed me utter disappointment.

"I am currently wishing we somehow get them to agree to these while you stand here asking to add more? You really don't know how things work between gangs." He said looking away from me. That made my blood boil. And for once, I didn't care to put a filter to my language:

"COULD YOU FOR FUCK'S SAKE STOP REPEATING THE FACT THAT I AM NEW?!?! I MAY NOT KNOW STUFF BUT I CAN FUCKING COPE WITH IT WITHOUT YOU REMINDING ME AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!"

Elijah took some steps back, and that weirdly seem to relieve me. Make me happy even.

I think I like being this. If it means people fear me.

"Now do you care to listen what I have to say?" I ask him again, but calmly this time. He nods his head but doesn't say a thing.

Then I go on to explain how these demands were too little in front of the long time of five years. That if we get them to agree to it then why don't we put more terms in it so it is more of our benefit? I told him we should also ask them to let our shippings be safe, to not attack them. Also to never blackmail our allies to become their's. Don't even ask me how I know this much. It all is a courtesy to all those Mafia books I have read on Wattpad.

For real.

And yeah I was just winging it all. Maybe Elijah does agree with me.

"So you say we do everything we want now? Like give out all the terms once and for all?" He asked cautiously.

"Yes. It's five years time. We better do it once." I said clearly.

"And how are you so sure we will get them to agree?" He asked me. This was the question who's arrival I was waiting for. I could sense it coming. No one will ever accept whatever I say on the first time. They weren't stupid. Neither am I trustable yet.

"Because this it the only way I make it into this gang. And at all costs, I have to." I said finally getting up to leave.
