Chapter 55 The Other Side Of Him
It was lunch time. I had finished eating and we were all just talking.
Travis was sitting next to me as always. He mindlessly ran his fingers along my hand and arm, laughing along with the jokes at the table.
Eventually he gave up on the small touches and threw his arm lazily over my shoulders. I smiled at him and leaned a little closer into his touch.
The conversation at the table went until the bell rang, and we all began to go our separate ways. Travis and I had art class, so we walked together.
"Have I told you how beautiful you look today?" He placed a hand on the small of my back and leaned close to my ear as he spoke. I rolled my eyes playfully and smiled softly.
"Yes, twice."
"Well let's make it three," he chuckled, "wanna ditch class again?"
"No." I didn't hesitate. "We aren't missing anymore class time."
He sighed dramatically and then laughed a little.
"Fine. But I wanna take you somewhere today." He stopped walking and turned to me. I turned to look at him and he took my hands into his.
"Where?"
"It's somewhere special to me. So you in?" He quirked his head to the side, blinking a couple of times. A small thing he did when he was begging without realizing it. I smiled up at him and nodded.
"If it's important to you than it's worth my time. I'd love to."
"Great!" He lit up, grinning. He pecked my cheek and then began running to class with one of my hands in his. I laughed a little an we hurried into class right before the bell rang.
"Do you wanna go right after school, or you wanna change first?" He whispered when we sat down and the teacher walked in. I shrugged.
"Whatever you want."
"Oh Kate, you can't give me that kind of freedom." I rolled my eyes again and slapped his shoulder lightly.
The end of school came around, and the four of us stood at the front.
"Well I'll see you at home," I told Garroth. He rose a brow, and blinked slowly.
"Where are you going?"
"Travis is taking me somewhere. Can you bring my bag home?" I held my bag towards him, and he hesitated but took it.
"See you at home," he sighed. I watched him get in the car, and drive back home. Travis said his goodbye to Aph and walked over to me.
"Ready?" He smiled and held his hand toward me. I glanced at it and then interlaced our fingers. We walked in the completely opposite direction from my house, and walked slowly together.
"So where are you taking me?"
"It's a surprise."
"Tell me."
"It's a surprise," he chuckled, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a blindfold.
"No." I pushed his hand away and denied whatever he had planned.
"You don't trust me?" He was acting, but even the fake hurt in his eyes shot a pang of guilt through my system.
"You can't just pull out a blindfold and expect me to be okay with that."
"Please?"
"No."
We stared at each other for awhile, and neither wanted to back down. Eventually Travis sighed and put the blindfold back in his pocket.
"On one condition. I require a kiss." He stepped closer to me and leaned down. Our noses brushed and I smiled, holding the sides of his jacket. I took a deep breath and placed my lips over his. The kiss was soft and gentle. We pulled away from each other slowly. "Okay, let's go."
As we walked together, we had pleasant conversation exchanged. But slowly the surroundings were beginning to change. There was less nature, and the plants and trees became more purposeful. The streets slightly cleaner, fences surrounded most houses. As we progressed, the fences turned into small stone walls with metal gates. Each house looking more expensive than the last.
"Where are we going?" I asked again. Travis sighed and chuckled.
"You really don't understand what a surprise is," he concluded. He stopped walking and looked at a large house. The red brick contrasted with the ivory pillars. It was beautiful.
"Wow, this house is gorgeous," I breathed, taking in the sight.
"Glad you think so, come on." He pulled me towards the black metal gate. I blinked in surprise and looked at Travis. He was grinning like a child.
"We're going in?! Is this legal?!" I began to panic. I could not get caught with the police. That would ruin everything.
"Perfectly, don't get your knickers in a twist." He rolled his eyes playfully and touched the intercom, speaking into it. My eyes scanned very inch of the outside. Where were we? "Okay, let's go in."
The gate unlocked and we walked to the front door. We stood outside the door and it swung open.
A young man stood on the other side, he was dressed in a lovely tailored suit with a white vest. His black hair was groomed precisely, and his beautiful green eyes were sparkling with mischievousness.
"Hello, Master Travis." He bowed deeply and rose, smirking. "You must be Katelyn?" He rose a brow.
"Um....."
"Yes, this is her, Brendon, please don't scare her," Travis chided. We walked inside and I looked at everything. Clearly a little distracted.
"Can I get you anything, ma'am?" Brendon leaned into my line of site and smiled politely. I looked at Travis who was smiling at me.
"I'm fine, thanks." Brendon nodded and winked at Travis before leaving. "So. Where the hell are we?"
"My house."
I blinked a couple of times and took a deep breath.
"You live here?" I questioned, needing confirmation. Travis nodded and then looked away, down to his feet.
"Is that bad?"
"No, of course not, just...wow." I let out a breath and wrapped my arms around myself.
"I just don't like telling people about it, they might judge for the fortune I'll inherit at eighteen."
You won't inherit anything. You'll be dead before graduation.
"Anyways, screw this awkwardness. I'll show you my room." He grabbed my hand and we ran up the stairs. I tried to take in every corner and table, something I was forced to learn back at the facility.
But we were going so fast I could hardly take in the surroundings.
A/N oh look. She's here. She's alive. She exists. I was grounded from something earlier sooooo I had no access to technology so I couldn't write. I love you all. (Also didn't edit cause I wanted this out in time.)
