Chapter 46 The Welcome Back Home

_-_-_Travis' POV_-_-_

I walked through my front door, groaning and dropping my suitcase on the entryway floor.

"Brendon! I'm home!"

Quick and steady footsteps were heard, and Brendon rounded the corner. He smiled and grabbed my luggage.

"How was the trip?"

"Boring," I groaned, "remind me why I bother to go to these family things?"

"Because you're an idiot?"

"Oh, that's why." I unlocked my phone and checked to see if there were any messages or missed calls.

"So when are you going to tell me about your girlfriend?"

"She isn't my girlfriend," I groaned, "could you make me some hot coffee for me when I get out of the shower? That would be appreciated."

I felt him roll his eyes as I walked lazily up the stairs and into my favourite bathroom. I turned on the water, letting it warm up while I stripped down. I stepped into the running water and sighed happily at the just below scalding temperature.

My phone that I had left on the counter began ringing, and I debated going for it.

The ringing stopped, and whoever called was directed to voicemail.

"Hey, Travis. Dunno if you're home yet, thought I'd call to see if you were busy...guess you are. Anyways, talk to you later."

I grinned at Katelyn's voice, knowing that I was going to get to see her for the first time in weeks.

I got out of the shower and walked into my room, putting on sweatpants and a simple blue T-shirt. I grabbed my phone and decided not to call Katelyn back. I wanted to surprise her.

I sat on my bed to put my socks on, and I caught a glimpse at the wall where I was investigating Chad. Red string connected pictures and articles, but nothing added up to one simple solution. I sighed, shaking my head and running a hand through my hair. I walked over and narrowed my eyes at the only picture I had of the crime lord himself.

"I will kill you. I will fucking murder you," I vowed, sliding the hidden wall shut, putting my work in hiding once again.

I hopped down the stairs and grabbed a sweatshirt.

"I'm off, Brend, see you later tonight."

"You aren't heading to your dorm?" He questioned while handing me my thermos of coffee.

"Not tonight, I found a few things on Chad when I was gone, I wanna dive into it as soon as possible."

"So you wanna get to it as soon as possible, so you're leaving...?"

"I'm off to see Katelyn."

"So that's her name!"

I rolled my eyes playfully and punched him in the shoulder lightly.

"See you tonight."

I slipped on some shoes and jogged quickly to my car. I ran a hand over the candy-apple red exterior and smiled. I slid into the front seat and turned the key in the ignition, grinning at the purr of the engine. I listened to soft music as I drove to Katelyn's and Garroth's house. I parked in their driveway and hurried to the door.

I knocked, anticipation bubbling in my gut.

The door flung open and Katelyn automatically threw her arms around my neck. I laughed and wrapped my own arms around her waist. I nuzzled my face in her hair and grinned at the lavender scent she was so keen on.

"You're back," she breathed out. I chuckled and held her tighter.

"Yeah, I am."

I frowned when she pulled out of my grasp. I liked her warmth.

Katelyn grabbed my arm and pulled me inside. She glanced around a little and then grabbed my face, placing her lips over mine. I kissed back and slowly placed my hands on her hips, swaying a little.

All too soon, she pulled away again, a light pink flush dusting her cheeks.

"Come on, Garroth and Aph are in the kitchen."

"Wait," I laughed, grabbing her waist and pulling her against my chest. "One more kiss? I missed you."

She rolled her eyes playfully and pecked my lips once more. She began pulling away, but I held her in the kiss longer.

Eleven seconds, and she pulled away. She grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the kitchen, letting go before walking in the door.

When I entered the kitchen, Aphmau attacked me with an embrace.

"You're back!" She giggled. I hugged her back and grinned. Garroth hugged me too, mocking Aph.

We all sat down at the island, laughing. Garroth to my left, Katelyn to my right. We told stories and laughed, just like the four friends we were. Happiness bubbled inside me, and I couldn't stop grinning.

"So what did I miss homework wise?" I took a dip of the coffee I had brought.

"An English assignment, science questions, and a math section review," Garroth informed me. I nodded and cleared my throat.

"And an art project," Katelyn piped in, "here follow me, I'll show you what it is," she sighed, standing up. I nodded and followed her. As soon as the kitchen door closed behind us, I placed a hand on the small of her back and we rushed up to her room.

She closed the door behind us and grabbed my jaw, pulling my lips to hers. I chuckled and wrapped my arms around her.

Our lips moved in slow synchronisation. I kept one hand on the small of her back, and the other behind her neck. Her fingers twisted into my hair, twirling it around one of her fingers occasionally. I felt her lips curve in a smile as we stood there for a moment with our lips attached.

"So what's this art project?" I asked while pulling away.

"We're studying the way we draw human features..." She whispered, leaning her head against my chest.

"Oh?"

"Yeah..." She purred, moving her head to the crook of my neck.

"Like?"

"Well...the jaw," she mumbled, kissing my jawline, "ears..." She nibbled on my earlobe a little. "Cheeks." She pecked my cheek once. "And not to mention, lips..." She finished her trail of kisses on my lips, and I let out a muffled laugh.

"Well you're flirty today," I panted, pulling away and leaning my forehead on hers.

"Missed you." She shrugged.

"We should probably get back," I sighed. She frowned and placed one more soft kiss on my lips.

"Let's go."

Damn, I'm the luckiest man alive.
