Chapter 39 The Baking
It was Wednesday. Laurance was finally leaving.
All three of us stood in the living room, standing silently while Laurance looked at his phone for the time to make sure he knew when his flight was.
"Well this is goodbye for awhile I guess," he remained emotionless to it all, as did Garroth and I.
"See you then," Garroth spoke. Laurance nodded and opened his arms for a hug from me.
"Hug?"
"I'm still mad at you..."
"One hug? We won't be seeing each other for awhile."
I rolled my eyes but gave in, wrapping my arms around his waist in an embrace.
And then he leaned down by my ear and whispered.
"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone that depending on how this mission goes, you could fall in love. Your secret is safe with me." My heart dropped. The last time he told me that my secret was safe, we were nine and I had broken Director Garte's vase. I spent a week in my room with my meals being delivered to me instead of being allowed to leave. There was no doubt in my mind that Laurance was the snitch.
When he pulled away, he didn't smirk. Only remained as if nothing had happened.
He walked out the door, and as soon as the door clicked to a shut, I felt a weight on my chest.
"What's wrong?" Garroth questioned.
"He knows..." Was all I could say as I slowly sat down on the couch.
"He knows what?"
"That I might fall for Travis...he was listening in on our conversation that night in the kitchen."
Panic ran through my veins and my heart pounded violently in my ears. I could die.
"What can we-"
"Nothing. We just have to hope that Laurance will behave and not let anything out."
"You trust him?!"
"I have to."
We stared at each other for a long time. Neither of us wavered.
"I'm going to spend the day with Travis, so it would be beneficial for you to be out of the house."
"Please don't tell me you're focusing on the mission over your happiness again. Laurance is gone, you don't have t-"
"But I do have to," I snapped, "I have to do this because if I don't ,we die. I will be advancing in the mission to get him to fall in love with me, now you are my partner, you are not to get in the way. We knew that coming in, and it will reamin that way coming out. Am I clear?"
"Crystal," he sighed, walking out of the house.
A small ping of guilt twinged in my gut as the door shut harshly, but I didn't let it bother me too much.
There were teacher meetings today, so that meant no school. So I made the decision the night before that I would have Travis over and bond with him or something. I grabbed my phone and clicked his contact. I listened to the ringing for merely a second before there was an answer.
"Heyo," Travis' voice came through the receiver.
"Hi, Travis." I smiled.
"What's up, beautiful?"
"I was wondering if you'd like to come over and help me make something."
"And what would that be?"
"I wanted to make Aph some cupcakes, she's done so much for me, I wanted to repay the favour."
"Sure thing," he chuckled, "be over in a few."
"Alright, the door's unlocked, see you then."
I hung up the phone and ignored the odd flutter that ran in my chest. I got up and started to get things ready. I took out all of the ingrediants and some aprons. As I started getting some bowls out, I felt two hands on my waist. I jumped a little and turned to see Travis grinning.
"Hey, you didn't tell me Garroth wasn't here."
"Well I thought that would insinuate something that was other than baking," I explained, leaning in close.
"We're actually baking?"
"Yes, why else would I call you here?"
"Oh I dunno.....to do some other things that involved you...and me....a mattress-" I slapped his arm and he began laughing. "Kidding! Kidding! I was just joking!"
I sighed and slipped open the recipe book.
"Alright, so we're making these chocolate ones. Here's an apron." I handed him his apron and he put it on, turning for me to tie it for him. I did, seeing as how he had problems reaching behind him. I began to tie my own, but he stopped me, tying them himself and then wrapping his arms around my waist and setting his chin atop my head.
"What now, babe?"
"Well first off you don't call me babe, next we need to do the actual baking part."
He laughed and looked at the recipe. I let him get measurements for things like flour while I worked on getting the wet ingrediants for the baking.
Suddenly, there was a tap on my shoulder. I turned and Travis was mere inches from my face. I felt heat rising in my cheeks as I saw the mischievous smirk playing on his features.
"You know...you're really pretty, and you know, pretty girls get flowers...." He spoke huskily, and I felt frozen in place. Then I felt something plopping onto my head. White powder flew around and I realised he had put flour on my head. I gasped and began chasing him around the kitchen. He turned around and wrapped his arms around me. He leaned in closely again, rubbing his nose against mine in an eskimo kiss. "You're so cute when you're mad at me~"
"Then I'm about to get really adorable," I growled. I still had an egg in my hand from when I was getting things ready.
And then an idea popped into my head.
"Travis~" I purred, taking my empty hand and running my fingers along his jawline. He hummed and leaned closer.
"Yes?"
"Can I have something from you?"
"What would that be?"
"A kiss?"
"Well I can definitely give you that...."
Before our lips could touch, I smashed the egg on top of his head. He gasped and pulled away, touching a hesitant hand to his hair.
"Oh well now you've done it," he teased, starting to chase me.
And as we laughed and I felt my wall around my heart crack, I couldn't help but focus on the impending doom.
A/N Next chapter feels like it should be a big one, how will I make it big? Not sure yet. I love you all devils, byeeeeeee.
