Chapter 31 The Walk

I woke up, realising that is was Saturday. I looked to my side and saw a glass black rose sitting perfectly in a vase. I smiled as I remembered the date. I frowned when I remembered the mission. There was a knock at my door, and I groaned.

"What?"

"Are you sick?" Garroth called through the door.

"What do you mean?"

"It's past twelve and you're still in bed..."

My eyes widened and I looked at my clock. Sure enough, it was one in the afternoon.

"Oh.....um....maybe...." I hurried out of bed and walked over to the door, I opened it and saw Garroth waiting on the other side with an eyebrow raised and crossed arms.

"Did something happen that I don't know of?"

"Travis and I went on a date last night," I admitted.

"What?! But it's too early!"

"Look, I understand, but this is spontaneous, like you said! Besides.....I had fun....." I smiled to myself.

Garroth opened his mouth to say something, but soon, his feature softened and he smiled.

"You know, I haven't seen you smile like that...ever."

"Like what?"

"Like you finally found a place where you belong."

"Well we don't belong here, sadly. It's both of our lives on the line."

He nodded in understanding.

"Also, you can't know about this yet, I told him you wouldn't approve, which is sort of true."

"Alright, he won't know that I know."

"Great," I hugged him and laughed.

"You seem happy."

"I am," I admitted. The doorbell rang and Garroth walked off. I got some clothes and started to get dressed. I changed into some black jeans and a MCR T-shirt. I tied my hair into a simple ponytail and sat on my bed while I started putting on my neon green socks. I hopped down the stairs and froze when I saw Travis talking to Garroth. He grinned at me and gave me a half wave, returning back to his conversation with Garroth.

I walked into the kitchen and started looking for something to eat. Garroth walked in a little later and leaned on the counter.

"So what did Travis want?"

"Just to borrow my history text book. You two didn't seem to act like a couple..."

"Well we're supposed to be a secret, and we aren't officially a couple," I shrugged. Garroth sighed and rubbed his temples. When the door of the kitchen opened, Travis was the one to enter.

"Hey, you forgot the notes," Garroth nodded and went out to go to his room. As soon as the door closed, Travis rushed over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Travis! What if he walks in!" I hissed worriedly.

"Just wanted to say a proper hello," he purred. I smiled and rolled my eyes.

"You are reckless," I laughed and pushed him off. He simply shrugged and walked to the other side of the island in the kitchen. Garroth walked in and handed Travis a notebook.

"Anyways, I'm off. Seeya, Garroth, Katelyn," he nodded as he left. I did a half wave as he left. Garroth looked in between us and then let out a sigh.

"You two are really good at acting," he shook his head. I sighed and leaned on the counter as the water for my tea boiled.

"Thanks, I guess," the kettle screamed and I poured the steaming water into my mug. I placed the tea bag into the water and started to move it around.

My water became tea quickly, and I took a cautious sip.

"Oh and this Monday is parents day."

I almost spit out my tea, I started to cough and wipe the splattered tea from the corners of my mouth.

"Parents day?"

"Yeah...since this is a boarding school they throw a day where parents can come and visit. I just thought you would want to know."

I quietly put my mug in the sink even though it was half full, grabbed my coat, my hat, and slipped on some winter boots. I walked outside and realised it had started snowing.

"I knew you'd have to come out eventually."

I looked and saw Travis leaning up against the side of the house. He grinned at me, and I rolled my eyes.

"What are you doing here?"

"I couldn't wait to see you..." He blushed a little and scratched the back of his head. I smiled softly and walked a little closer.

"It's the first snow of the season," I looked up, some snow getting caught in my eyelashes.

"Yeah, it's pretty..." He sighed, "but you're beautiful."

"Travis," I groaned, "that's so cliche."

"It's the truth," he chuckled, "so where are you going?"

"Just thought I'd go for a walk," I shrugged.

"Mind if I join?" He shoved his hands in his pockets.

"Sure."

We walked down the driveway and onto the street.

"I had fun last night," he nudged into me.

"I did too," I looked over at him and noticed the hand closest to me was nervously drumming against his leg.

"S-so how are you?" He awkwardly tried to think of conversation.

"I'm fine, and you?"

"Good, good....wanna go grab some hot chocolate or something?"

"That would be nice," I smiled. Travis let out a small breath and I felt his fingers graze mine. I looked down and saw his fingers twitching. I bit back a laugh as I reached and laced our fingers together. Travis let out a sputtering sound and his blush darkened. "So did you really need those history notes?"

"Yeah," he hesitated, "but seeing you was just a bonus," he grinned like a child and looked at me.

We got to the small cafe and I got white hot chocolate while he got peppermint hot chocolate. We sat down with our drinks, and I looked out the frost covered window. I traced the rim of my cup and crossed my legs.

"Do you believe in wishes coming true?" I said in a tone barely above a whisper. I glanced at Travis and saw him looking surprised.

"Yes, I do," he spoke after a moment of hesitation. I looked over and saw the gentle curve of his lips that formed the warmest of smiles.

I inhaled sharply and looked down at my drink.

"Do you?"

I looked up and pondered the question for a moment.

"For some," I whispered, "just none for me."

"You don't think that your wishes come true ?"

"Nope, my chances of wishes coming true were crushed a long time ago," I laughed unamused.

When I looked back at Travis, there was a spark in his eyes and he was hiding a mischievous smile behind his mug.
