Chapter 20: The Friend
I walked down the hallway, trying to keep myself from falling over with exhaustion.
For some odd reason, everyone was extra loud and excited this morning, which didn't make much sense to me. And then I saw a poster on the wall.
School dance to celebrate autumn!
When? October 17th.
Where? School gymnasium.
Have fun!
I tilted my head and looked at the bright poster with confusion.
"You going?"
I jumped when Travis' voice piped up behind me. I looked at him and smiled a little.
"I dunno, maybe," I shrugged, "you?"
"I think so," maybe it was in my head, but it looked like he was blushing a little.
"Anyway, I-" I stopped in my tracks and grinned at someone who was standing down the hall, looking lost beyond belief. I ran down the hall, only stopping when I was right in front of him. "Jeff? What're you doing here?"
"Well Director Garte....we can talk more later," I nodded and wrapped my arms around him.
Jeffory was a friend. A small crush before and after Gene.
"Who's this?" Travis rose a brow and crossed his arms.
"Hi, I'm Jeffory, an old friend of Katelyn's. And you are?"
"Travis," they shook hands.
"So this is Travis," Jeffory chuckled, "Katelyn's told me about you."
"Oh she has?" He smiled and looked at me, "what has she said?"
"Nothing," I gave Jeff a look, not letting him say anything, "so are you coming to school here?"
"No," he laughed, "Garte sent me here because he decided that every now and then someone should come for a little while to check up on you and Garroth."
"Oh good, you aren't here long," Travis smiled in a sickeningly polite way. I elbowed his gut and glared at him.
"So how long are you here?"
"Until the eighteenth."
"Then you can come to the school dance with me! It'll be a great way to introduce you to some people!" I grinned. I heard Travis inhale as he tsked in disdain.
"Sure, sounds fun, I gotta go here in a sec. I only came here cause I need your address."
"Stay at a hotel," Travis suggested.
"Don't be an idiot," I chastised, "here," I pulled out a paper and couldn't find a pen, "Travis do you have something I can write with?"
He grumbled a string of curse words as he pulled his book bag off his back and pulled out a black inked pen, handing it to me.
"Thank you," I smiled and wrote out the address quickly, "here you go, no one's home right now."
"Alright, see ya later."
When he walked away I dropped the smile and glared at Travis.
"What?"
I sighed and walked away with my arms crossed.
Lunch time arrived and Travis sat next to me this time instead of in front of me. Aphmau was rambling when a boy with black hair covered her eyes.
"Um....?" Was all she said as she felt his hands and then she lit up, "Aaron?!"
The boy let go of her eyes and grinned as she turned around and almost tackled him with a hug.
"Surprise," he laughed.
"Aaron, this is Katelyn and Garroth. They're new. Guys this is Aaron, my...." She trailed off
"Still can't say it," Travis chuckled under his breath, "nice to see you again, Aaron," he saved Aphmau from her awkwardness, causing her to smile in thanks.
"Likewise, it's nice to meet you all. I can't stay long, just came to see if you wanted to hang out once you're done here."
"Sure!" Aphmau grinned from ear to ear.
Aaron walked off after kissing her blushing cheek.
"So that's Aaron," I spoke once he was out of earshot.
"What do you mean that's Aaron? Who told you about him?" Aph asked innocently.
"Travis told me," I shrugged as he smirked.
"Of course he did," Aph sighed as she sat back down.
"At least I tell people about a human's existence before they just show up out of the blue proclaiming they're gonna be living with me for a little while," he grumbled bitterly.
"What?" Aphmau blanked.
"Would you give that up already? I'm allowed to have friends!" I snapped.
"I'm confused..." Aphmau whispered to Garroth.
"Well a small warning would have been nice!" Travis shouted.
"I had no clue he was coming!" I growled.
"Who are they talking about...?" Poor Aphmau.
"You didn't have to just run into his arms like that!"
"I can jump into the arms of whoever I want! You don't control me!"
"Well you can't jump into anyone elses arms but mine!"
"Why?!"
"Because you're mine!" He yelled, causing the whole cafeteria to be silenced. Everyone was staring at Travis as a deep blush rose up his neck, to the tips of his ears, and everything in between.
Even though the whole scene was awkward and tense, I couldn't help but feel my chest flood with warmth, and my heart pound against my chest violently.
I opened and closed my mouth, looking like a fish while I tried to figure out words to say. Before I could say anything, the bell rang and people went to class. I stood there frozen for a bit, realising what class was next.
Art.
The class where Travis and I sat next to each other.
I took my seat next to the blushing mess that had his head down on his desk and covering what he could of his face with his arms, but his blushing ears still poked out.
He tensed when he heard my chair move.
Damn these tile floors and chairs that don't have any of those damn fucking chair quieters or whatever the fuck they're called.
I sat down and tapped my pencil repeatedly on the table while bobbing my leg up and down, chewing on my bottom lip.
Why am I so fucking nervous?! Come on, Katelyn!
"Travis, head up. Pay attention."
Slowly and reluctantly, Travis rose his head. His face was a deep crimson.
Hesitantly, I tore of a small piece of paper and wrote a note.
We need to talk.
I slid it to Travis, but he pretended not to see it as he started to sketch the assignment.
This was going to take a lot to get over...
A/N M'kay, imma just leave the spontaneous fight there cause.......................................................it's one thirty in the morning and I can't sleep. I love you all devils, byeeeeeeeeeee.
