The Epilogue

Epilogue:
"Molly! You quit that!" I sighed in exasperation, tucking a wisp of hair behind my ear. The little blonde three year old simply giggled and slipped from my grasps once again.
"She's being absolutely crazy, I think she gets it from her mum." Niall chuckled from beside me.
"I think not, it's much more her father's trait." I shot back, leaning into his shoulder.
"Hey! Hey, guess what!" Molly started tugging persistently on the hem of my shirt.
"What, dear?" I smiled down at the wiggly toddler.
"I.. I… Well, I forgot!" She almost fell over, laughing.
Niall stood up and grinned down at her, a twinkle in his ice blue eyes. "You know what happens to girls who forgot things?"
At his words, I flinched just a bit. Despite the fact that it had been quite a few years since 'the accident' as we called it, it was still a bit of a touchy subject. Niall noticed this and shot me a comforting smile.
"When big girls forget things.. They'll have someone like me to be there for them. But when little girls who forget things.." Niall trailed off, taking a step towards her with a small smirk.
Molly's own blue eyes went extremely wide as Niall made his way towards her, fingers wiggling. "N-no! Not the tickle monster!"
"Yes, the tickle monster! He especially likes little blonde girls who are named Molly!" Niall continued on, a laugh threatening to burst out of his lips. Molly kept backing away.
"Don't scar my daughter, Horan." A new voice interrupted Niall's ticklefest, our eyes both drifting up to the couple standing at the door.
"Wouldn't dream of it, Tommo. I think you're doing a great job on your own," Niall teased back. He picked the little girl up and, making sure Louis was ready, tossed her into her dad's arms.
"Daddy! Daddy! Uncle Ni was gonna tickle me!" Molly declared loudly as she hugged her arms around his neck.
"Oh really?" Louis grinned, setting his daughter down. "Like this?"
Molly squealed. "Yes! Daddy, stop tickling!"
The two guys, along with the little girl, all raced outside so Molly could show them how high she could swing. Juliet settled down on the couch beside me, eyes following her husband and child before looking back at me. "So, how was she?"
"Absolutely brilliant, like always. Other than the fact that she can slip through fingers like soap." I laughed.
"You're going to have one of your own, soon." Juliet grinned with a little bit of knowledge, her eyes landing on my quite large stomach. "And you definitely have the motherly glow already."
"Oh, by the way! We found out the gender the other day," I said quietly. I then braced myself for Juliet's excited squeak.
"And?"
"Well, it looks like our angel baby Devin is going to have a little brother soon." I informed her happily. Juliet clapped in happiness, her features lit up.
"Niall must be ecstatic about that," Juliet laughed gleefully.
"Oh, believe me, he is. He's been playing the guitar around me constantly, I think he hopes the baby will come out strumming along to One Direction songs." I replied with a smile that threatened to break my face.
"Lou and I were talking about that tonight at dinner. It's been exactly four years since their last concert. It's kind of crazy, isn't it?" Juliet's eyes drifted off to the distance, probably thinking of all the things that had happened in the past ten years of our lives. Twenty-eight didn't sound that old, but a lot can happen between the ages of eighteen and twenty-eight.
"I know Niall misses it a lot. We watched the Up All Night tour DVD the other night. It was emotional," I replied, the atmosphere suddenly very somber. "But I wouldn't trade the last few years for anything."
"I agree. Apparently Zayn is visiting next weekend, we should all get together for a barbecue or something." Juliet suggested.
I nodded in agreement. "Definitely. From what I heard, he has really been enjoying living in Hawaii. It's exactly what he needed after what happened with Summer.."
"Speaking of Summer.. Have you talked to her lately?" Juliet asked, her eyebrows scrunched together.
"Last I heard she was on tour with that new country singer.. I can't recall her name at the moment, I've been so out of the loop with who's who in the celebrity world." I shrugged.
"Summer and Zayn were perfect for each other. But Zayn was ready for the commitment and Summer wasn't.." Juliet sighed. "I guess every relationship can't always work out, huh?"
"Love isn't perfect. You know that, I know that. We managed to work around the differences we had, though. I guess theirs just got a bit out of control. It's been over a year though, I'm hoping Zayn has cheered up since then."
"Hawaii has done wonders for him, or so Louis' told me."
"Yeah, Liam called Niall the other day.. They talked about it. Apparently Andie, Liam and the kids visited Zayn last month!" I smiled, really enjoying being able to sit down and talk to Juliet. Something we hadn't gotten to do in a while.
"What about Harry? How's him, Rosie and McKenzie?" Juliet inquired.
"Rosie and I Skyped last week. They're good, McKenzie is being quite the seven year old, apparently. I think you, Rosie and I need to plan a girl's day and fly to New York for a weekend or something." I said and immediately Juliet nodded.
"Babe, you ready to go?" Niall asked as he re-entered the room. I nodded, taking his hand and heaving myself off the couch.
"Does Louis know?" Juliet asked excitedly, changing subjects back to our previous conversation.
Before I could reply, Louis spoke up. "That I'm going to have a little nephew soon? Yeah, Niall just told me." Louis tried to seem nonchalant about it, but there was a smile that was threatening to burst across his lips.
"We better get going," Niall said after a short silence blanketed us.
"We'll see you two tomorrow at mum's family dinner. Apparently Fiz has a new boyfriend that's coming. Lottie likes him, but I think he needs the Tommo Troublesome Two seal." I grinned, winking at my brother who laughed.
"Drive safe and thanks again!" Juliet grinned as Molly clung to her leg.
Niall and I left the house, walking down the sidewalk with our hands entwined.
"I can't wait til we can rope them into babysitting our kids," Niall chuckled as he helped me into the car. He planted a kiss on my forehead before shutting the door and walking to the other side.
"I don't know if I'd trust our babies with Lou." I commented off-handedly, a smile etched onto my face. My hand rested subconsciously across my baby bump, pure happiness settled over the three of us.
Niall glanced over at me. "God, Brook. I'm reminded every single day why I'm in love with you."
"Because I don't trust my brother?" I laughed a bit.
"Nah. You're just so beautiful and I don't know how I managed to make you mine."
"Yeah, well that'll always remain a mystery. For some crazy, unknown reason.. I love you, Niall James Horan."

Memory is a strange thing. It's often overlooked, it's something that almost everyone has. Something happens and they remember it from that moment on. Memory isn't always a good thing. Sometimes a flashback can haunt your thoughts. Such as doing something embarrassing, getting rejected, saying something you regret. Some people stay up late remembering things they've done.
It's kind of funny. I can remember not remembering. But knowing what it's like to not have any recollection of some of the most monumental moments of my life, it's made me realize we all need to, in the wise words of One Direction, live while we're young. Not focus on the wrongs or rights of our lives, simply live and remember.
