Chapter 42
A/N THE LAST CHAPTER :O
Chapter 42:
I yawned once again. The previous day, instead of going to sleep like I should have, Niall and I took a midnight stroll along the beach. It was perfect and totally worth not sleeping, but now I knew I was going to be even more tired than usual. So would Niall. But our fingers entwined, the warmth of his body, the little kisses.. I'd survive on four hours of sleep. Sure, maybe I should have slept sometime in the past week.. But life was too exciting to sleep away.
"Hey! Brook! Can you bring me a water bottle?" Josh called from his hidden spot behind the drums. His phone was attached to his ear, so I assumed he was talking to Lilly. I glanced around me, eyes landing on the case of water. I grabbed one and started up the steps.
"Watch that step, it's off-"
I didn't get to hear the rest of Liam's advice, instead I found myself free falling from at least five feet. I tried my best to block myself from the fall, but I didn't have time to twist my entire body. I guess my reflexes aren't that great.
Flashes of pain rushed through me as my head basically ricocheted off the stage. Within seconds, my head felt like it was going to literally explode. Four pairs of arms reached to help me up, my vision slightly blurry as I tried to balance on both my feet. All across the arena, people were asking if I was okay. I placed my hand on my head. The pain was almost unbearable, it felt like everything in my mind was getting all jumbled up.
I'm just brilliant at getting hurt.
Fifteen minutes later and I was muttering under my breath as my fingers felt the giant bump on the back of my head. Just bloody fantastic. The bump practically throbbed with an ache and I questioned myself on how I manage to be so clumsy.
"Are you sure you're okay?" One of the stage hands asked. He was only the thirtieth person to ask since I had fallen.
"Yeah, I'm sure. Just a bump. I'll be fine." I responded with a forced smile. The stage hand nodded and headed off to do something. Out of nowhere, I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist and pull me into their chest. I immediately let a smile slide across my face as I leaned into his back.
"The bump on your head is about the same size as this island," Niall chuckled into my ear.
"Does it make me look prettier? I think it accentuates my hairline just beautifully," I joked, right before Niall's lips connected with my cheek.
"You're beautiful no matter what, babe."
~*~*~
Sleep came easily to me that night. The second we had entered the hotel, each of us went straight for our individual rooms. I showered, brushed my teeth, washed my face, changed into my pajamas and found an ice pack for my head. Once that was all done, I literally fell into the bed. I let the comforter envelope my body, sleep immediately overtaking me.
~*~*~ Flashback ~*~*~
"Louis, just know that even if you don't make it, I'm proud of you. You're talented, even if they don't think so. You're the most amazing brother I could ask for and I love you with my whole heart. The judges will realize what an amazing person you are. But if they don't, you're always my favorite brother." I said quickly to Louis, giving him a massive hug. He was nervous, I could feel him shaking underneath my arms. He gave me a weak smile, before taking a deep, calming breath. The announcer called his name and with a final nod, Louis went out in front of thousands of people.
"And what's your name?" One of the judges asked. Butterflies flew around in my stomach for my brother as he grinned at the audience.
"My name is Louis Tomlinson." He stated, a small cheer ringing through the audience.
~*~*~ Flashback ~*~*~
"This isn't the last of One Direction," Zayn said with confidence. Pride washed over me as I looked into the TV screen. It's crazy how far they had come since their auditions.
~*~*~ Flashback ~*~*~
"You know what, Niall Horan?" I crossed my arms and stared straight into those cobalt blue eyes.
He quirked an eyebrow as if pushing me to say what was on the tip of my tongue. "What, Brooklyn Tomlinson?"
"You can be a real arse sometimes," I stated without a second's worth of hesitance.
The corner of his lip tilted upwards in amusement. "Oh really, now?"
"Yes. You're quite annoying, most of the time." I continued on, tearing my eyes off of his and staring into the distance.
"And?" He persisted, a laugh threatening to burst out.
"And?" I repeated and at his nod, a smile broke across my face. My eyes met his once again. "And I love you."
~*~*~ Present Time ~*~*~
My eyes snapped open, staring up at the pure white ceiling of the hotel. All exhaustion was gone as I shook myself awake. It took a minute for me to realize my surroundings and find out where I was. Once I was fully sure that that had all actually happened and wasn't just a dream, I whooped in excitement. I bounded out of the bed, giggling.
I wanted to scream in happiness, I wanted to jump for joy, but I tried my very best to not bubble over. Last thing I needed was to hurt myself again.
Despite still being in my pajamas, I raced out into the hallway. I went to each door, pounding against the wood. There was no response from any of them.
Where were they?
I did one more round of knocks, still no response. Deciding my best bet was breakfast, I ran towards the elevator. I jammed the buttons, literally bouncing up and down in impatience.
Finally an elevator arrived and I jumped inside, for the first time realizing my lack of shoes. Oh well, people in Hawai'i didn't wear shoes anyways, did they? I punched the lobby floor as quickly as I could. I moved around the elevator quick a bit waiting to descend the fifteen floors.
Finally the doors opened and I raced out into the lobby.
Finally I found the conference room.
Finally I spotted the boys sitting at a table. They all stood up at the sight of me. It must have been quiet amusing, I was wearing my Superman pajamas, my hair was a complete hornet's nest and I wasn't wearing shoes.
But none of that mattered at the moment.
Because I finally remembered.
Niall opened his mouth, probably to ask me if I was okay, but I didn't let him say anything. Instead, I threw myself into his arms. I clutched him tightly to me, my eyes squeezing shut. He reeled back in slight surprise, but his arms secured themselves around my waist. After a few seconds of tight hugging, I pulled away and left a quick kiss on his lips.
I then hugged the person on Niall's right. I gave Liam a big hug and continued down the line until finally reaching Louis.
He was ready for the hug, but I don't think he was quite ready for the tears that started pouring out of my eyes as I gripped him with all of my might. "I'm so proud of you," I whispered in his ear before backing away.
I looked at each boy, overwhelmed with happiness. I could pretty much feel the confusion floating between them and I was well aware of the entire crew's eyes on me. But none of that mattered.
The drama, the pain, the sadness, the constant confusion. None of that mattered to me anymore.
"What happened, you win the lottery?" Harry spoke up finally, amusement laced into his voice.
I laughed through the tears that were still pooling in my eyes. I went back to Niall, wrapping my arms around his waist and turning to the other boys.
Then I said the three words I had been wanting to say for the past six months.
"I remember. Everything."
