Chapter 39

Chapter 39:

~*~*~

That night I decided to watch the concert from the audience, since I had been watching it from the side the previous nights. An hour before the show, I managed to escape the multiple nerf bullets that had been pelted at me since we entered the arena. Double checking I had my backstage lanyard around my neck, I wished the boys luck and exited the side to go to my seat. Nick came along.

"Hey, Nick," I started with a smile as we walked along. "Aren't you excited you get to watch the show with me?"

"Sure," he responded with a laugh.

"You don't sound very excited," I teased the older man.

"My daughter is going to be jealous," Nick responded with a small smile.

We were then silent as we started out the door. I noticed a ton of girls lined up, all chattering back and forth excitedly. Nick motioned towards the door. We entered, hardly anyone paying attention to us. Which was definitely a good thing. My seat was up in the corner to the left and eventually we reached it. I sat down and checked my phone. Supposedly, the show would start in thirty minutes.

"Oh my god, oh my god!" A voice from beside me repeated over and over again. I turned to look at the girl, wondering if she was just over-the-top excited to be seeing the boys. Instead, she was staring straight at me, her eyes wide. Her two friends that were with her were also looking at me with excitement. "You're Brooklyn!"

"Yeah, I am. What are your names?" I smiled, turning a bit in my seat so I could converse with them.

"Kenzie," the first girl stuttered excitedly.

"I'm Crystal," the girl next to her said, voice high-pitched.

"And uh, I'm Jordan," the last girl managed to get out although she looked like she was about to fall over.

"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Kenzie, Crystal! Are you ready for the show?" I asked in interest. The girls looked no older than me.

"Yes! We've been a fan since they were on The X Factor! And can I just say, I adore you. You're so sweet and gorgeous! No wonder Niall asked you out," Jordan blushed once the words were out of her mouth. "Is it.. Would it be okay to get a picture?"

"Well of course! As long as we get one on my phone too," I said before turning my phone on. I lent towards them and smiled into the camera while they did the same.

"Thank you so much," they chorused happily.

Noticing the amount of One Direction merchandise adorning their bodies, I got an idea. "Do you guys have a twitter?"

"StopTheFeels," Crystal said softly, eyes flashing with unbelief.

"JORmakinmeDANce," Jordan spoke up after Crystal.

"Yeah! Mine is, uh, AngelFor1D," Kenzie replied giddily.

"Let me text Niall your Twitters," I said distractedly as I pulled up his number. I heard their shocked gasps and continued to scroll through my messages, a smile across my face. I checked the time and changed my mind. "Actually, you know what? They're probably not doing anything right now, I'll call them."

"Holy crap," Jordan breathed out, looking around her wildly as if trying to determine if this was real life or not.

I glanced around as well, making sure none of the others girls would come galloping across when they realized who I was on the phone with. "We gotta keep quiet though, I want you guys to be able to talk to them!"

"You're the most amazing person on this planet," Crystal declared as I pressed my phone to my ear.

I winked back at her, before turning my attention to the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey babe, something wrong?" Niall sounded concerned on the other side of the phone.

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Are you with the others?" I asked quietly, trying to keep my voice from drifting. The girls beside me fidgeted a bit.

"I'm with Lou. The others are still changing. What's up?" His voice came across confused. I listened closer and heard Louis scream singing and their vocal coach yelling at him to shut up.

"I met these lovely girls. They're sitting beside me and I thought you should say hello. Here, this is Crystal." I handed the phone off to the girl who's entire body was shaking like a leaf.

They each spoke to Niall and Louis for about a minute before Jordan handed the phone back to me. "He said he wants to say goodbye!"

"Awww, that's so cute!" Kenzie giggled as I pressed my phone to my ear again.

"Okay, I'll see you later." I said to Niall.

"I'll see what I can do, maybe we can get them backstage later too," Niall offered.

"That would be awesome! You're the best," I grinned subconsciously.

"I know. I gotta go before Paul murders me. I love you," he said the last part quieter.

"I love you too, have a good show."

"Oh my god, you two are beyond cute. You're amazing! I can't believe you're so sweet!" Crystal rambled, obviously psyched about getting to talk to two fifths of One Direction. The other girls nodded wildly.

I opened my mouth to reply, but my phone buzzed with a text.

From: The Nile River(;

Keep them with you, I'll talk to security and rummage up a couple backstage passes. I love you.

Seeing the text, I turned to the girls with a wide smile. "You better not leave me after the show, I hear a couple of people want to meet up with you."

Their faces made me laugh, pure joy written across each face as they squealed to each other. Nick leaned over from where he was sitting, whispering in my ear. "You're way too nice for your own good. You just made those girls' lives."

"Good morning!" Liam chirped out three days later as I walked into the small conference-like room.

Without responding, I walked straight towards the buffet line. That was the nice thing about touring. When we were in hotels, breakfast would be served in the hotel's conference room where the entire crew got to sit together and talk before the show that night. And hey, food. I wasn't complaining. Once I had a plateful of completely unhealthy food, I felt slightly human again and walked towards the boys' table.

"The question is, are you alive yet?" Harry asked as I plopped down on the chair and started shoveling sausage into my mouth.

"She will be once the plate full of food has been demolished. Until then, speak slow and be nice." Louis advised with a hint of a smirk.

"Yeah, well, being awoken at 6:30am is not exactly something I enjoy," I huffed in between bites.

Niall snorted. "Really? And here I thought it was something you looked forward to every day of your life."

"You caught me, it's my secret pleasure." I rolled my eyes back into my head.

"So how'd you sleep?" Niall asked before placing a forkful of egg into his mouth.

Well, let's see. I was up until three am thinking about everything. I'm pretty positive I'm never going to remember the last three years of my life, I'm never going to remember everything about our relationship, and I've basically give up hope. It's going to haunt me for the rest of my life if there are more memories that people aren't telling me. Like losing my baby. I'm never going to remember every aspect of my boyfriend, I'm not going to know any of my friends that I might have forgotten about. So my sleep was absolutely horrid.

"Yeah, I slept great." I lied straight through my teeth, letting a fake smile slide across my lips.

"Lying is bad, Brooky." Louis stated.

"I don't know what you're talking about," the smile fell as I glared at my brother.

"Your smile was forced. Your jaw is clenched," Louis laughed victoriously, "I've known you for your entire life. I know how to tell when you're lying."

"Mate, I'd never be able to tell when my sister is lying." Harry teased, his elbow jabbing Louis repeatedly in the side.

"You don't have five females living in your house, Harry. I've learned if you don't want to deal with emotional women all the time, you learn the telltales. Such as the tightening of a jaw, the clenching of fists." Louis shoved Harry over a bit, laughing.

"Back to the point," Liam gave the two boys pointed looks before turning to me, "How did you really sleep last night?"

"Horribly," I went with telling the truth. "Just couldn't get comfortable." Okay, not the complete truth.

"Another lie," Louis said through a mouthful of food.

"Seriously, mate? How did you tell this time?" Zayn asked with interest.

"Brook's voice was strained on the word comfortable," Louis said completely nonchalantly, before pausing and thinking about his words. "Oh god, I've spent way too much time with girls."

"Yes, yes you have," Harry agreed, practically buckled over with laughter.

"Babe, what's wrong?" Niall looked straight into my eyes, worry clouded over.

"It's nothing big," I sighed with exasperation. "Just.. I'm pretty sure I'm never going to get my memory back."

"Don't say that!" The boys all chorused at once, all amusement gone as they crowded more around me.

"Doctor Nelson told me that once it reaches six months past the accident, it becomes extremely unlikely to recover the entire three years. I could be remembering bits and pieces for the rest of my life, but never know the full time. Do you know how long it's been since the accident? Five months and two weeks. I'm not going to remember. I'm going to go through life not knowing three entire years of my life. That's 1,095 days. So that's why I didn't sleep. I was thinking about it," I looked down at the table, examining the criss-cross table cloth.

"You're going to remember," Niall stated adamantly. "I know you will."

"I don't need encouragement about getting my memory back. I need to know what happened in the past three years. I forgot I was pregnant and was going to have a baby. What other monumental moments have happened that I can't remember?" I groaned, frustration tearing at my insides.

"If you don't remember, so be it. You're going to have us, your family, Josh, Rosie, Juliet, Summer, and so many more. We're not leaving anytime soon." Zayn comforted, his voice calming me down a bit. It was quite nice. Despite the fact that I wasn't that close to Zayn, Liam and Harry.. They were all still worried about me.

"I know you guys are always gonna be there for me. I just.. I need to come to terms with it on my own, you know? And I will. It'll just take time. It's hard knowing that I'm going to go through life with a gap," I shrugged. "Now, what are your plans for the day?"

Immediately, three separate conversations spouted. Apparently Zayn was going to hang out with Summer around the hotel, Harry was meeting up with a friend, Louis had volunteered to babysit Lux, and Liam and Niall had discussed going to see a movie. Oh the life of busy popstars.
