Becoming Ninja

When Lily woke up the next morning, she instantly sprung out of bed. Even though she could already use any jutsu she wanted, she was still excited to go to school, just for the sake of it. She quickly got dressed and pulled her hair up into a high ponytail that she found to be quite impressive, especially considering she hadn't had enough hair to do that for over a year. Even when she had had enough hair to put it in a ponytail, she typically opted not to, as her hair was very thick and wouldn't sit nicely. Her new hair was still quite thick, but it wasn't as bad as it had once been.

After she finished preparing herself, she went down to the kitchen and made her self a simple breakfast of toast with jam, along with her traditional daily cup of earl grey tea in the morning. She was about halfway through her cup of tea when Adrienne came down.

"Can you make me a pancake?" Adrienne asked her. Adrienne is very fond of pancakes. When they were in seventh grade, Adrienne's pancake addiction became so serious that Lily named her Syranydo, the pancake god. Adrienne, of course, had entirely about that, however Lily had not, as she tended to remember random small events such as that one.

"Aren't you supposed to be omniscient?" Lily mocked, "Shouldn't you be able to make a pancake for yourself?" Not that she had anything against making pancakes, Lily just wasn't a morning person and didn't quite feel like putting all the effort into making a pancake materialize out of thin air.

"Just because I know how to make a pancake doesn't mean that I can make said pancake," Adrienne retorted. "Besides, if I spent all the time to gather the materials and then cook the pancake, I'd be late." Lily sighed and conjured a pancake for Adrienne.

At that very moment, Karen walked down the stairs. "Oh, I'll take a waffle," she demanded. Adrienne glared at her for her choice in breakfast foods. Lily, who was not in the mood to protest, created a waffle for Karen and then cleared her own dishes.

"I'm going to go now," Lily announced to Karen and Adrienne, "I don't want to be late for my first day at the academy." She grabbed the bag she had packed for herself and headed out the door, waving to her friends as she left.

Upon arrival at the academy, Lily sat down in the row behind Sasuke. Naturally, all of the other girls in the room started complaining about how Sasuke was theirs and Lily had better not get in their way. Lily just told them to screw off, as she had no desire whatsoever to date Sasuke. Over the past few years, it had occurred to her that Sasuke was not, in fact, the terrible Itachi-slaying monster she had once thought him to be, however she still wasn't very fond of him.

Karen and Adrienne arrived just as class was beginning to start and sat next to Lily. Iruka entered the room carrying Naruto tied up with rope. He tossed him onto the floor and began yelling at him. "So that's today?" Karen commented. All three of them recognized that that would mean the graduation exam was the next day. "Hopefully they'll let us lake it," she added.

"Time for a transformation jutsu test!" Iruka yelled, "Everyone line up in front of me." His eyes scanned the group of students until they fell on the three new comers. "Actually, before we do that," he interrupted everyone's groaning, "There are three new students that I would like to introduce themselves to you. Come up here." He motioned to the three to come to the front of the room. They complied.

Lily went first. "My name is Hotaru," she stated blandly, "That's really all you need to know about me and all I particularly feel like telling you."

Adrienne went next. "I'm Midori," she began excitedly, "I like pancakes and reading." Lily laughed softly to herself. Adrienne had just about summed up the most basic essence of her character, although Lily was fully aware that there was much more to her than just pancakes and reading.

Karen nervously followed suite. "Hi, I'm Anzu Hyuga," Hinata looked moderately surprised by the presence of another Hyuga, but didn't say anything due to her immense shyness. "I'm really glad to be here becoming a shinobi." The three of them went back to their seats.

Sasuke turned around and looked at Lily. "What, only the Hyuga has a last name?" he scoffed, "Or are the rest of you just too ashamed of your measley little clans that you didn't want to say what they are?" He looked content with himself.

"If I were you, I really wouldn't go talking about other people's clans when you don't even know what they are," Lily laughed, "Honestly, I really don't think you know who you're insulting here."

Sasuke still looked smug, but Lily could tell that his confidence had wavered a bit. "Who do you think you are?" he asked rudely, "I get you're new in town, but I really don't think you know who you're talking to. I'm the last survivor of the great Uchiha clan. I'm sure you've heard of it."

Lily seriously had to resist the urge to burst out laughing and simultaneously flash he sharingan at him. She would've loved to see the look on his face when he realized that her had insulted his own clan. Instead however, she managed to keep her cool. "Oh my gosh," she started, apologetically, "I didn't realize I was talking to someone from such an amazing clan, please forgive me." Adrienne shot her a confused look. Lily just shrugged her shoulders. "I'm saving that one for some other time. No need to go around flashing my skills, now is there?"

Iruka had finally finished composing himself and once again called everyone up to the front of the room to perform their transformation jutsus. Lily was one of the first people in line, so she didn't have much time to consider what she should turn herself into. She considered just keeping my nose down and doing it normally, however she had already passed on scaring the ship out of Sasuke, and she wasn't just about to do that again. When the line got up to me, she did the hand signals and turned herself into a deformed porcupine. Iruka sighed a bit, but he hadn't really expected much more than that from the new comers.

Lily went back to her seat and sat there watching the rest of the people perform their transformations. It seemed strange to her to watch them, knowing what the future had in store for them. A great sadness swept across her as she thought about all the pain that would enter their lives. She was near tears, when Naruto performed his sexy jutsu. She couldn't help herself but to laugh hysterically. "Still so innocent." she thought to herself.

"You think this is funny!" Iruka yelled, "You can't even perform a proper jutsu yourself, and you take the liberty to laugh at his stupid trick? The hokage put you in this class the day before graduation exams because he said you were something special, but clearly he was wrong. Just for that, you can help Naruto scrub the statues of the hokages after school." Normally, Lily would've felt great disappointment in herself after being yelled at by a teacher, but she figured she could explain herself to him later on. Plus, there was a chance she could get free ramen from Iruka.

After class had ended, Lily followed Iruka and Naruto out to the hokage statues where she began scrubbing alone with Naruto. "I'm really not that bad of a ninja, I figured I should tell you," she announced to the two of them. Iruka scoffed. "No really," Lily protested, "I could've done the transformation fine, I just didn't really want Sasuke to be able to properly gauge my power."

Naruto looked over at her. "So you don't like Sasuke either?" he asked, "That's good. All of the girls seem to like him too much. It's really annoying, He's not even all that good." Lily smiled a bit at his comments.

"Maybe if the two of you shut up and started working a little harder," Iruka reprimanded, "you'd be able to go sooner." Lily's heart fell, as she knew what was coming.

"Like I care, it's not as if I have anything to go home to," Naruto stated.

Tears came into Lily's eyes. "Naruto," she whispered softly, "I understand how you feel."

Naruto didn't seem very affected by her words. "How should you understand how it feels?" he asked her angrily, "Don't you live with those friends of yours? You have them. You have your friends. I've got nothing, and I don't know what I did wrong."

"Sure, I've got them," she stated, "And quite frankly, my time in Konoha, while it has been painful in some ways, it's been the greatest experience of my life." Naruto glared at her. "But there was a time," she continued, "When I was like you. I had no one. I had friends, but they didn't like them and they didn't like me. I had a family, but I was never good enough for them. Eventually, though, I found my two friends that I have now. All it takes is a few to make everything better." Naruto seemed moderately affected by Lily's words.

     "Thank you, Hotaru-chan." He said

     "For what?" Lily questioned.

"For not looking at me like everyone else does." He smiled.

Iruka, who was obviously greatly saddened by their conversation, proceeded to invite the two of them to get ramen with him. Lily promptly rejected, stating that she needed to get back to her friends. In reality, she wanted Naruto to be able to hang out with Iruka alone. Lily took a scenic route home, wanting to see the village. Upon arrival, she found that her friends had already gone to sleep. She created a bowl of ramen for herself, noting that she had to go food shopping the next day, then went to sleep.

Lily walked into class the next morning and sat in her seat behind Sasuke. He turned around to make some comment to her, but it was early, and she really didn't feel like it, so she just brushed him off and sat silently until Iruka entered.

"To graduate," Iruka stated professionally, "You'll have to perform a 'bunshin no jutsu'. When you're called, come to the next room." Lily watched as Naruto began to have a mental breakdown. She laughed a bit to herself, thinking about how powerful he would end up becoming. "We'll start," Iruka continued, "With Hotaru, as she is the newest member of the school."

Lily could tell that Iruka had set her up to fail. She supposed that he didn't believe the other day when she told him that she wasn't actually an incompetent ninja. As she walked towards the testing room, Sasuke scoffed. "Have fun failing," he mocked. Lily glared at him. Yet again she had to resist the urge to activate her sharingan and scare the daylights out of him, but she again decided against it. She walked into the testing room and stood before the proctors.

Iruka smiled at her. "It's okay if you can't quite get the jutsu. Many people don't graduate on their first try, and you were thrown into this very quickly," he told her. She smiled kindly at his largely incorrect words.

"I think I'm good, but thanks." She replied. She considered completely over doing it, but didn't want to be too highly ranked, so she created two clones of herself instead of fifty.

Iruka looked impressed by what she had done. "I suppose you pass," he told her. She walked up and grabbed a forehead protector off of the table. They only had blue ones, so she just willed hers to turn red. Iruka had noticed and was going to ask how she managed that, but she just shrugged her shoulders. She walked out into the main room and nodded to her friends, letting them know she had passed telepathically. She ignored Sasuke when he attempted to make a snide comment and then went home for the day.

The next morning, Lily headed over with Adrienne and Karen to receive her team assignment. They sat down in their typical seats behind Sasuke. Lily was relaxing and enjoying the tea she had brought with her when she couldn't finish it with breakfast, when Ino walked over to her. She took a deep breath and prepared herself for the worst.

"I just want you to know," she began, "That Sasuke is mine and would never like a low quality ninja like you. I'm sure you were at most able to produce one clone yesterday, unlike me who produced three." Sasuke rolled his eyes in front of them. Meanwhile, Sakura was busy attempting to weasel her way into the seat next to Sasuke.

Lily laughed a bit before responding. "Ino, I can guarantee you that I will never like Sasuke. Even if I do manage to look past all of his character flaws, or blame them on other people, I'm not exactly fond of the idea of incest, as it is frowned upon in most cultures." Ino looked at her, confused, but eventually walked away and took her seat when Iruka came in and began giving out team assignments.

Lily, Adrienne, and Karen had been assigned together as team four. Lily had assumed they would be placed together, since they knew each other's secret, however she had been slightly worried that they could be separated and she'd be stuck with random nobody's she'd never heard of before. The three of them went to Ichiraku Ramen together to celebrate before returning to wait for their Jounin to arrive.

They had been assigned Hoshi Akiyama as their sensei. She arrived quickly after the three of them returned and introduced herself. "I like Konoha and relaxing," she began, "I dislike having to look after people that can't take care of themselves, and in the future, I want to be able to retire at a nice age and spend the rest of my life watching clouds." She smiled at the three of them. "Now it's your turn."

Lily decided to go first. "My name is Hotaru Uchiha. I like being here in Konoha. I dislike seeing people that I know will die. My hopes and dreams... I don't really know. I'd like to be able to save some people from dying and doing... other things, but I can't do that as it would screw everything up.

Adrienne followed her. "My name is Midori Otsutsuki," Lily gave her a questioning look at the sound of a last name, but then realied that the Otsutsuki clan was where the rinnegan originated, so she accepted it. "I would say that the rest of the area are about the same as Lily's. Oh, and I like Itachi Uchiha.

"Anzu Hyuga." Karen stated. "Same as the others."

Hoshi looked at them with concern all over her face. "You three are very strange, and those clans... How powerful. Is there something you're not telling me?" The three looked at each other and mutually decided that their sensei should know the truth. Lily began telling her everything, from their origins all the way to their being excessively OP. At first, Hoshi seemed quite shocked, but she was a quite chill person, so she went with the three of them.
