Chapter 4
Fuck
Nick took a glance around. He was clearly in a jail cell. But who's jail cell? The young boy slowly sat up but halted and shivered at the red plastered across the walls. The brunette didn't move and merely stared. The smell of blood was sickening. Nick hesitantly stood up and noticed the commotion outside of the confined space.
He carefully crept up to the bars and peered outside. Other prisoners stood behind bars, some wailing, others begging to be let out. A pang of empathy hit Nick's chest. Why couldn't he just let them out? He could be the only prisoner.
Nick sat back against the wall, still hearing the cries of the other prisoners around, but him? He kept his silence. The young boy pressed his lips together as he studied the grey walls around him and the red stains that painted the whole place.
He then heard a small click before a long groaning noise, through the screams and the pleads of others. Nick tilted his head, his mocha locks falling out of place as he glanced out of his cell to see a lanky man with a gas mask on and a black outfit that made sure not a single piece of skin was visible.
Whenever someone swiped their arms at his body he seemed unfazed by their actions, all he did in response was swat at their hands. The man stared at people, judging them for how much food they would or would not get. Nick watched the man intently as he gave Nick plenty of food without much of a glance, before moving on.
This surprised the brunette. Wouldn't Red want him to die? Though the small 'meal' seemed a little hard for him to grab so he guessed he still wasn't the most loved. Nick hesitantly crawled up to the front of the cell and and stuck his hand out of the bars, grabbing the small plastic bowl with white glop inside.
The small scrawny male then proceeded to scurry away to the back wall, afraid someone might try to hurt him. There wasn't much there, so Nick decided to save it, until he needed it, unsure of when he'll get more food again.
The corridor slowly quieted down into pure silence as people munched on their food, or saved it somewhere in their cell, well that's what the person did in the cell across from him.
Nick looked up at the ceiling, seeing as that was the only place where blood wasn't trickling down. The rebel leader finally gather enough courage to look into the cells around him, that required him to go to to a place where he was in arms reach. Nick shuddered at the thought of being beaten up but pushed it aside quickly.
Nick peeked out of his cell only to notice some untouched food in the front of the cell next to him, which had very little food in it, maybe a couple of ounces. The dark crimson eyed boy went up to the bars, looking slightly into the cell, where he could see a mother with her young child, neither of them looked very well off.
The mother's shirt was ripped and torn, dirt and blood stains galore. A large portion of the shirt was ripped off so the toddler had some sort of clothing on. Due to this you could see the young woman's abdomen. Her ribs were so clearly visible it was scary, and her son looked similar in that department.
You could see practically every bone on her body, she seemed like a skeleton. Her son however has obviously lived his whole life in this cell, though he looked better than his mother. Nick grabbed some of his white glop before swiftly tapping on the bars. The mother turned her head to face him directly, raising an eyebrow.
Nick pushed the food in and gestured to herself and to her son, who was peacefully sleeping in her arms. The woman stared at him before carefully dragging his food to her cell but stopping halfway. The brunette nodded and pushed the food as close as he could to her.
She took it reluctantly giving him a warm smile, as a thank you, before Nick turned back into his cell. After a few hours, the captives grew feisty again, people's yells echoed through the room, as Nick rested his head on his knees.
Children's ear piercing screams rang out occasionally as adults sulked or tried to calm down the young ones. The noise was unbearable, not to mention the sweet, metallic blood everywhere. It hurt Nick's heart, hearing their cries but being unable to do anything to help them. Yet he felt something else as well.
It made him fear for what was to come.
