Chapter 1: Wreck It Ralph

~🏅~

An arcade game called "Fix-It Felix Jr." beeped with the words 'Insert Coin' below it.

After a coin was dropped into the slot, a display of a forest and stump appeared on the screen. An eight-bit theme song played as a pixelated large muscled man walked over to the stump.

"My name's Ralph, and I'm a bad guy."

Ralph smiled tiredly, he yawned and fell asleep inside the tree stump. Then, a yellow bulldozer moved Ralph and the stump to the dump.

"Uh, let's see...I'm nine-feet tall. I weigh six-hundred and forty-three pounds. Got a little bit of a temper on me."

Ralph's head popped out of the stump he glared deeply at the bulldozer. "Hey! You moved my stump!" Ralph growled moving his fists around angrily.

"My passion bubbles very near, the surface, I guess. Not gonna lie."

The bulldozers finished the construction of Niceland Apartments, the Nicelanders made their way inside their new building.

"Anyhoo, what else? I'm a wrecker. I wreck things, professionally."

Ralph stormed over to Niceland, he threw his fists in the air angrily.

"I'M GONNA WRECK IT!" He yelled, a text bubble above him.

"I mean, I'm very good at what I do, probably the best I know."

Ralph began wrecking the building, smashing windows and the door. He climbed up the side of the building and reached his hand inside one of the windows, pulling out a Nicelander and throwing him away.

"The thing is, fixing is the name of the game. Literally, Fix It Felix Jr."

Ralph climbed up to the top of the building and destroyed the middle of it, he stood there with his fists out.

A couple of Nicelanders stuck their heads out the window and cried: "Fix it, Felix!"

Hearing their cries, Felix ran onto the screen and grabbed his golden hammer that was floating in the air.

"I can fix it!" He proclaimed.

"So, yeah. Naturally the guy with the name 'Fix-It Felix' is the good guy. He's nice enough, as good guys go. Definitely fixes stuff pretty well."

Using his hammer, Felix fixed the shattered windows and door, dodging past the bricks falling down due to Ralph slamming the area he was standing on.

"But if you've got a magic hammer from your father, how hard could it be?"

"Yoo-Hoo!" Mary the Nicelander called out to Felix, holding a fresh pie. She dropped it on the windowsill for Felix.

"If he was a regular contractor, carpenter guy, I guarantee he would not be able to fix the damage that I do as quickly."

Felix hopped over to the pie and ate it, a protective, shiny, rainbow hard-hat appeared on his head.

Ralph slammed the ground some more, bricks fell onto Felix, but he wasn't affected by it due to his hat.

He held up his hammer that was now rainbow, and finished repairing the building in a flash with his super speed.

The screen read 'YOU FIXED IT!' in bold color-changing letters as celebratory music played.

"When Felix does a good job, he gets a medal."

Felix stood on the rooftop with the Nicelanders while Ralph stood off to the side, a disappointed look on his face.

From behind the clouds appears a little gold medal with Felix's name on it places itself around Felix's neck.

"But, are there medals for wrecking stuff really well? To that, I say 'Hah!'"

A female Nicelander wearing a pink hat handed Felix a pie and another Nicelander wearing purple gave him a peck on the cheek.

The Nicelanders then looked over to Ralph and glared deeply at him, they grabbed and lifted up Ralph and then threw him off the roof.

"AHHHH!" Ralph screamed as he fell down, before landing on the ground and into a pile of mud.

"A-a-and no. There aren't."

In bold white letters were 'LEVEL ONE COMPLETE' above Ralph.

A bunch of kids marveled at the video game, which was one of many other games at the famous 'Litwak's Arcade.' It was a place for tons of kids and teenagers to play games, hang out, and have fun together.

"Thirty years I've been doing this, and I've seen a lotta other games come and go. Kind of sad. I think about all those guys from Asteroids? Boom! Gone. Centipede? Who knows where that guy is, y'know?"

Years would pass, and video games would come and go. Getting more and more advanced and modern as years went on. Out of all of the games, one of them remained in its place. Fix-It Felix Jr

"Hey, a steady arcade gig is nothing to sneeze at; I'm very lucky. It's just, I gotta say, it becomes kinda hard to love your job when no one seems to like you for doing it."

It was the present day now, and the arcade was empty, the only one in there was the owner, Mr. Litwak, which the arcade was named after. He made his way out the arcade, all of the lights went off, even the 'open' sign.

In a game themed around dancing, the Dancer Girl stopped dancing and looked around the arcade for a double check. Seeing it was empty, she smiled and cupped her hands around her mouth. "All clear! The arcade is closed!" She announced.

In 'Street Fighters,' Two fighters, Ryu and Ken were fighting each others.

"SHORYUKEN!" Ryu shouted pulling one last punch before they stopped fighting. "Woo! What a day. So, you want to head to Tapper's, Ken?"

"If you're buying, buddy." Ken finger-gunned before the friends walked off the screen.

From inside Fix-It Felix, Jr, Felix on the Nicelanders stood on the rooftop.

"Quittin' time!" Felix chirped, his medal around his neck and pie in his hand. He opened the door for the Nicelanders, each of them scurrying inside, Felix following after them.

"I don't know. Maybe I wouldn't be feeling this way if things were different after work. But it is what it is."

At the front of the building, the Nicelanders tidied up and cleaned the patio.

"Good job, everyone!" Felix complimented the Nicelanders on their work.

"Felix and the Nicelanders go hang out in their homes which he's just fixed, and everyone, you know.."

While the Nicelanders praised and talked to Felix, Ralph picked himself up from the ground and wiped the mud off of him.

He walked past Niceland, ignoring the scared looks and glares he got from the Nicelanders as they scurried inside their home. He stroked a couple of bushes on his way, causing them to fall over.

"They go to their homes, I go to mine which happens to be a dump. And when I say 'a dump,' I don't mean like a shabby place. I mean an actual dump, where the garbage goes and a bunch of bricks and smashed building parts, that's... That's what I call home."

Ralph climbed up the brick pile he calls home with a depressed look on his face.

"I guess I can't bellyache too much, I got my bricks, I got my stump."

Ralph stood in front of his stump, then stared down at the pile of bricks below his feet. He pummeled the bricks into dust and pulls a pile of bricks over him like a blanket.

"It looks uncomfortable. It's actually fine. I'm good."

Ralph moved around a bit to make himself comfortable, he then twitched when he felt something in the back of his neck. He reached behind his neck and pulled out a brick, he added it to his blanket of bricks.

He gazed at the penthouse windows, seeing Felix hanging up  his medals as the Nicelanders came into his room.

"But, if I'm really honest with myself, I see Felix up there, getting patted on the back, people are giving him pie and thanking him and so happy to see him all the time..."

"Sometimes I think...man. It sure must be nice being a good guy." Ralph concluded with a sorrowful look on his face.

The other Bad Guys clapped for Ralph, all of them were at a meeting for "Ban-Anon," where the bad guys of Litwak's could talk to each other and express their thoughts.

"Nice share, Ralph." Clyde, the orange ghost from Pac-Man complimented, talking in his gentle and calming voice. "As fellow Bad Guys, we've all felt what you're feeling and we've come to terms with it."

"Really?" Ralph asked with a smile.

"Right here, I am Zangief, I am bad guy." Zangief spoke up, raising his hand and putting his drink on the floor.

"Hi, Zangief." The Bad Guys waved.

"Hi, Zangief..." Ralph waved last.

"I relate to you, Ralph. When I hit bottom, I was crushing man's skull like sparrow egg between my thighs." Zangief slapped his thigh, making the other Bad Guys chuckle.

"And I think, 'Why do you have to be so bad, Zangief? Why can't you be more like Good Guy?'" Zangief explained, Ralph nodded his head as he listened to him.

"Then I have moment of clarity. If Zangief is Good Guy, who'll crush man's skull like sparrow's egg between thighs? And I say, 'Zangief, you are Bad Guy, but this does not mean you are bad guy.'" Zangief concluded, the Bad Guys clapped and nodded for him.

Ralph on the other hand, was confused. "Right...I'm sorry. You lost me there."

"Zombie! Bad Guy!" Zombie spoke up next to Ralph.

"Hi, Zombie." Everyone waved, Ralph waved a little nervously.

"Zangief saying labels not make you happy. Good! Bad!"
Zombie explained, then letting at a growl. He then leaned his head against Ralph's giant arm. "You must love you."

"Yeah! Inside HERE!" The Cyborg added, pulling out Zombie's heart with his claws, holding it towards Ralph.

Ralph cringed in discomfort as he scooted away from the dripping heart. "Whoa, whoa! Okay! Alright, I get you. Watch out, it's dripping!"

"Question, Ralph." Clyde spoke up. "We've been asking you to Bad-Anon for years now, and tonight you finally show up. Why is that?"

"I don't know. I just felt like coming." Ralph shrugged, leaning back in his chair. "I suppose it has something to do with the fact that, uh...Well, today is the thirtieth anniversary of my game."

Everyone smiled and clapped for Ralph. Saitine placed a hand on Ralph's shoulder. "Happy anniversary, Ralph." He congratulated.

"Thanks, Satan." Ralph nodded.

"Uh, it's Saitine, actually." Saitine corrected, leaning back in his chair.

"Got it." Ralph nodded, before leaning back in his chair. "But here's the thing...I don't wanna be the bad guy anymore." He confessed.

The members of Bad-Anon gasped in horror. Bowser breathed out fire balls in shock, and Clyde turned blue.

"You can't mess with the program, Ralph." Cyborg reminded, standing up from his chair.

"You not goin' turbo, are you?" M. Bison asked, his white eyes full of suspicion as he pointed his hand at Ralph.

"Turbo? No, I'm not going Turbo! C'mon guys!" Ralph exasperated. "Is it Turbo to want a friend? Or a medal, or a piece of pie every once in a while? Is it Turbo to want more out of life?"

"Yes!" Zombie groaned, the other Bad Guys nodding with him. Ralph furrowed his eyebrows in frustration.

"Ralph, Ralph, we get it." Clyde assured. "But we can't change who we are. The sooner you accept that, the better off your game and your life will be." He advised.

Ralph just looked down a scowl on his face.

"Hey, one game at a time, Ralph." Zangief smiled. Ralph didn't respond, frustrated no one listened to him.

"Now, let's close out with the Bad Guy Affirmation." Clyde said. All of the Bad Guys stood up from their chairs. Ralph rolled his eyes and took Zombie and Zangief's hands.

All of the Bad Guys join hands, or whatever they have instead of hands. Clyde, having no limbs, has two other Bad Guys with their hand and saw on his back.

"I'm Bad, and that's Good. I will never be Good, and that's not Bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me." All of the Bad Guys said together with their eyes closed and heads down.

Ralph was the only one who didn't join in their speech, his eyes wide open.

All of the Bad Guys lifted their heads back up and opened their eyes, content smiles on their faces.

"Okay, Gang, see you next week." Clyde said as all of the Bad Guys left the circle.

Saitine patted Ralph's shoulder as he passed by him. "Hang in there, Ralph."

"Hey Zombie, don't forget your hatchets." Clyde reminded. Zombie let out a grunted and lifted his hatchets up.
"There you go."

Zangief turned off the lights in the room, leaving Clyde floating in the dark. Ralph continued standing there, until he let out a sigh and followed the Bad Guys.

On the Pac-Man screen, the Bad Guys are shown leaving the center of the maze. Ralph then stopped when he noticed two cherries under the base.

He looked around to make sure no one saw him, then flinched the cherries, leaving a 100 behind.

With cherries in his hands, Ralph caught up to the Bad Guys to the train.

Zangief waved over to Ralph and patted an empty spot next to him. Ralph sat down next to Zangief, just as the train took off.

The train zoomed through the power cord of a Pac-Man console and reaches the power strip. The train stopped, arriving at 'Game Central Station.'

All of the Bad Guys stood up from their seat and made their way towards the entrance, to the large and bustling station. Many video game characters walked or flew around the station.

As Ralph exited through the Pac-Man station, an alarm blasted, making Ralph groan in annoyance.

"Step aside, sir. Random security check." A blue Surge Protector said, appearing out of no where.

"Random my behind! You always stop me!" Ralph fumed.

"I'm just a surge protector doing my job, sir." Surge shrugged, writing down on his clipboard. "Name?"

"Lara Croft!" Ralph sassed.

"Name." Surge said more firmly.

"Wreck-It Ralph!"

"And where are you coming from?" Surge asked, his eyes not leaving his clipboard.

"Uh, Pac-Man?" Ralph gestured to the large sign up at the entrance, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"You bring any fruit with you?"

Ralph's eyes widened, he quickly hid his cherries behind his back. "No! No fruit!"

Surge nodded in approval. "Okay then, where are you heading?"

"Um, Fix-It Felix Jr." Ralph responded.

"Anything to declare?"

"I hate you."

"I get that a lot. Proceed." Surge gestured to the station, allowing Ralph to leave.

Ralph kept hiding his cherries as he walked off, when Surge finally disappeared, Ralph put his cherries back in front of him.

As Ralph took a bite of one of his cherries, a Paperboy fell out of his bike from staring at Ralph.

As Ralph made his way through the station, many people scurried away in fright at the bad guy. Ralph just kept his bored expression on his face. While he was used to it, it still hurt.

As Ralph passed by the TV area, Sonic came on one of the screens, giving a safety reminder.

"If you leave your game, stay safe, stay alert, and whatever you do, don't die. Because if you die outside your own game, you don't regenerate. Ever. Game over."

Ralph approached the entrance to Fix-It Felix Jr, and noticed Q*Bert and his companions at the side. In front of a cup was a cardboard box with 'Game Unplugged. Please help!' written on it. Each of the characters looked sad and tired, with no place to call home.

Ralph looked down sadly at the creatures, he then looked at the cherries in his hand. He placed the one he hadn't eaten yet in front of Q*Bert.

"Here you go, Buddy. It's fresh. Straight from Pac-Man's." He smiled softly before walking to the entrance. "Hang in there guys!"

When Ralph went though the entrance, the alarm went off again and Surge appeared with his clipboard and pen at the ready.

"Name?"

"AHHHHHH!"
