Chapter Four

He left through his window at one in the morning. And he was really easy to follow. So I followed him. He jogged downtown making slow time but it didn't matter.

Half an hour later he was standing in a dark alley. He rubbed his eyes and leaned against the wall of a small store. He yawned and a man stepped up from under a dumpster. That had to be the stupidest code and entrance I had ever seen.

"Hey Mark." Dumpster man said.

"Lewis. How've you been? How's the wife?" Mark joked.

"No time for laughing anymore kid. Here are the names. Memorize them then burn them."

"Alright, alright," Mark responded taking the file. "The names? The names of people who know about Julie?" he glanced up. "Look I knew you said this is important but..."

"Memorize them." then he turned swiftly and left, walking in the opposite direction of were I was hidden. As soon as he was out of sight I ducked into the alley.

"Hey Julie how have you been?" he asked, mouth full, a small piece of paper sticking out.

"You didn't do that. There is no way you just did that." I growled.

"No I did. You know names are delicious." he smirked.

I shoved him in the chest and he stumbled backwards. "Listen brat. You messed up, just like I knew you would. You stopped Louis from kissing me. I live up to my promises Mark." I threatened.

"Oh I know you do. But there is no way you would kill Louis." he responded confidently.

"What are you talking about? Do you want to go home and watch me kill him?" There was an edge in my voice.

"I know you won't. You like him."

It's kinda true. Wait no it isn't. You know what this isn't any of your business.

"Ha! I knew it!"

"You know what. I can tell you right now that I'm going to kidnapp you on Sunday and it will still work. I can tell you that maybe I do like him, and you will still die. No matter what you try, I am going to win, and you are going to regret ever making this hard on me. Do not mess up again."

"Or you'll what? What will you do? What can you do?" he sneered arrogently.

"Nothing right now. But it'll be worse on Sunday." I started to turn and walk away when Mark did something I wasn't expecting. He tackled me.

I hit the concrete, and my nose started to bleed. I shifted my weight out from under him and elbowed him in the neck, even though I aimed for the head. He grunted and scrambled to his feet and pulled out a gun. I didn't know what kind. I'm a not a gun kind of girl.

He was holding it infront of him with shaking hands, staring me down from the barrel. He cocked the gun and gulped.

I laughed. "Do it Mark. I dare you."

He coughed, out of breath from our quick fight, and focused on me again. His muscles tensed and I knew he was about to do it. Before he could blink, I threw my knife next to his foot and hit the gravel. He pulled the trigger, but it was too late and the bullet soared over my head.

I sprinted towards him and grabbed his arm. I pulled out a tiny syringe full of clear liquid. Crushing his shoulder between my knee and the pavement I pushed in the needle and squeezed, watching it drain.

Then I leaped up and ran.
