Going Out
The next morning, Hinata sat in the patio of the back yard. She watched as the wind slightly moved the bushes and the leaves; how the grass swayed back and forth in rhythm.
She glanced down at the book she was reading, a romance novel. She never considered herself as the romantic type, but reading about fictional love always melted her heart, although at the same time everything was always so cliché and cheesy. Sometimes they were all the same, no matter what plot or scene you put the two lovers on, the ending would be the same. She would often prefer the tragic romances or the ones with the sad endings because of this, but nonetheless, she read them all, being the book worm that she was.
She continued until the erupted sound of barking interrupted her reading.
She looked up and glanced to her right where she was sure the noises came from.
Over the short wooden fence was a huge dog barking and playing in the backyard.
Instantly her heart melted.
'A dog!' she screamed excitingly in her head.
She walked over to the fence and watched as the huge dog came running over, getting on its hind legs to reach her.
She let out her hand to pet it, and then it started licking her hand.
"You're such a cutie." she spoke.
"Me or the dog?" she heard a deep voice respond out of no where. She turned her head towards the voice standing next to the dog. He was around her age, tall with dark skin, brown wild hair, and piercing, dark eyes.
"The dog of course, I didn't even know you were here."
"He's cute alright, but not as cute as you."
She waved off his flirtatious comment with a roll of her eyes. "I bet you say that to all the girls."
"If half the girls in this town looked like you, then I would."
She scrunched her nose and scoffed at him.
"Maybe you should keep searching for something else."
He chuckled. "You're strange, I've been watching you read and I was instantly interested in you."
"What's so strange about me?" she asked confusedly.
"You're..different from other girls around here, now that I mention it, you must be new in town."
"Yes, I am."
"Let me show you around town."
Hinata stared suspiciously, she really didn't want to be bothered with a flirtatious play boy.
"I'm good where I am, but thanks for the offer."
Hinata went to turn away, but stopped by his sudden call.
"Don't worry, I like to play hard-to-get."
She began to walk inside the house before quickly mumbling, "and who said that I was playing."
She entered the house quietly walking towards the living room, meeting Neji and Hanabi sitting on the couch.
Neji stared suspiciously at her back, asking a simple question along with his gaze.
"Where are you going?"
"Out."
"Where big sister?"
She sighed. "I don't know, around maybe? I kinda want to just see what's here."
"And by 'see what's here' you don't mean going to that mansion do you?" Neji asked as if he was her parent.
'Yes.'
"No, of course not Neji. Isn't there a book store around here or something?"
Getting up, he said,"Yes, I can take yo-"
"I would rather go alone, no offense, but I don't want you to baby me wherever I go."
Neji squinted his eyes at her, before proceeding to sit back down. "Fine. I will text you the address, and you can find it on your own." he spoke, after grabbing his phone from out his pocket.
"Thank you." she sighed, walking out the door.
Seconds later, as she was walking down the small sets of stairs, she received the address from Neji.
She tapped on her phone and texted the address into her gps, following the simple steps and directions that would lead her to her destination.
In the process of walking to the said location she was supposed to be going, she stopped in front of the mansion mid-walk.
Her legs stopped moving on their own and she stood, staring at the unnecessarily large home.
"The aura seems so dark here." she mumbled.
Her fingers graced the black metal fence with curiosity. She put a little more force onto the fence, making it squeak in the process; flinching at the small noise.
Suddenly her fingers felt cold and she pulled them away. She dragged some strands of hair behind her ear and continued to stare at the details on the fence.
The poles of the fence were bent into many swirls and twists with dull spikes to go with them, forming what looks to be vines. What intrigued her most about the fence was the metal roses that were placed specifically on these vines.
She watched as the fence door slowly opened as if welcoming her in itself.
She took a step closer, her foot already crossing the boundary of the lonesome property.
In some way or form, it seemed so much colder on the other side; running a chill down her spine, she shivered oddly.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." a voice startled her making her jump.
She quickly turned to the culprit and frowned.
"Are you stalking me... whatever your name is?"
"You've never gave me the chance to give it to you." he said with a wink.
Hinata frowned in frustration.
"But since you're wondering, it's Kiba."
'I wasn't wondering.'
"And yours?"
"Hinata."
"That's pretty cute-"
"Are you following me?" she asked demandingly, cutting him off in the process.
"No." he spoke after a minute or so.
She quirk an eyebrow, not believing him.
"Then why are you here?"
"I just so happened to be going the same way as you."
She rolled her eyes and began to walk away.
"Okay wait."
She paused to look at him; an irritated look on her face.
"Okay, the truth is.. I like you."
She scrunched her nose, the confusion written all over her face.
"Like me ? You don't even know me."
"Don't you believe in 'love at first sight'."
"No, but I do believe in walking away from a conversation, so have a nice day.. Kiba" she said his name with a little disgust in her voice.
He stared confusedly at her back, somehow feeling more "in-love" with her before, determined to somehow make her his.
When she finally reached the small, yet welcoming bookstore, you could only guess what kind of books she picked up.
"You want all of these." the book store clerk questioned with a smile; seeing as she picked six books at her disposal.
"Yes please." she said returning the smile.
He stared to ring the books, "You must be new here." he started a conversation.
"That obvious?" she sighed.
"Well this town is pretty small, and I don't really get that many customers anyways, especially not ones who check out six books." he spoke happily.
Her smiled grew bigger, "Well I love to read, and I couldn't decide between these, so I got them all."
After he finished the last book, he handed every one back.
"Well then, I have a feeling I will see you here very often. What's your name?"
"Hinata. And you sir?"
"Iruka."
She smiled at the man, said her goodbyes and left the store.
On her way back, she stared at the house one last time, a shiver running down her spine, as the goosebumps crawled along her skin.
'Maybe next time.'
She walked away. .
