The Night of The Crash
3rd Person POV
~Flashback~
The drive back home from a date should have been normal, as it always had. Laughter and jokes filled the car. Her hands on the wheel and her eyes locked on the road. The yellow tinted lights of the 1967 Chevy Impala illuminated the road in front of them.
"And then the Roman said Dude! I just saw Jesus! Do you know how hard you have to be hit to see someone else's God?!?!" Mark said, both of them laughed. The trees and lining the road cast shadows as the car passed them.
"Man the forest is pretty at night." Mark said, looking out his window to admire the forest. He jerked his head when he saw a light coming from the side at an alarming rate, before she could move the car out of the way it was hit, they both screamed. Shattered glass flew everywhere, the car pushed to the other side of the road, up against the guardrail. Mark had shut his eyes during the impact, the Impala had no air bags. He looked over to see the other car. A man stumbled out, the front end of his car banged up horribly, the windshield cracked and broken, headlights turned off. Mark's door was pressed up on the railing so he couldn't get out that way. He looked over to see her. She was leaning over, her head was bleeding from the glass that had hit her and from the impact from hitting the steering wheel. He unbuckled his seatbelt and hers, before picking her up carefully and setting her in the back seat before crawling over himself. The back door on the driverside wasn't blocked by the car, he opened the door and crawled out overtop of her before picking her up and trying to take her out of the car, she was stuck. The man from the other car walked over.
"Yoooou k-kids should've beeeen watching where y-er goin!" Mark looked over at the man, he heard the slur of his voice. He sounded drunk and as he approached Mark, he could smell the alcohol. He was about to say something when he heard a fwoamph then felt a strong heat wave hit his back. He turned around and screamed, he went to grab her but the flames were too close. A car that was behind them had stopped and the driver called 911. Mark grabbed the wrist on the man and pulled him out of the way of the flames. Thankfully they weren't too far away from the fire station. They got there quickly, an ambulance and a couple police cars came soon after. Mark was brought into an ambulance and checked for any injuries. They only found a few cuts and bruises. On the other hand, she was rushed to the hospital, the man was arrested for drunk driving.
He went with her to the hospital after that.
~Flashback Over~
Mark was still softly crying into his lovers chest, while the kids were talking to her. They had told her jokes and she told them small little fairytales that they seemed to enjoy.
"Can we call you something like Ghost Aunt?" Sam asked, the ghost in the mirror smiled and chuckled.
"If that's what you want, go ahead." Soon after what felt like only a short while of the three of the conversing, Sam and Tim grew tired as their bedtime approached. Mark had calmed down and Jack and him walked up the stairs and collected their children, placing the mirror on a table. Jack took Sam to her room while Mark took Tim to his. Jack waited outside the room for Sam to change before she opened the door and let her Dad in. She laid down in her bed as Jack sat on the edge, smiling down at her. He ruffled her hair and kissed her forehead. She smiled, snuggling further into the comforters.
"How did you meet Ghost Aunt?" Jack looked confused before he chuckled at the name his child has given his old friend.
"She was my friend. She, your dad and I hung out a lot."
"Did she like one of you guys? Like... Like Liked one of you?"
"Well, for a while she and your Dad dated."
"Which one?" Jack had to try and control his laughter. He covered his mouth and snickered.
"The red one." Jack smiled. Sam yawned.
"Night Sammy Sam." Jack kissed the top of her head once more before walking over to Tim's room to tell him goodnight and tuck him in just as he did with Sam. After Jack finished tucking his kids into bed, he walked into his own room where he found Mark talking to the mirror.
"Um...Mark?" Mark's head whipped around to see Jack.
"O-oh hey Jack." Mark answered, his hand shakily set down the mirror.
"Are you okay? You've been acting kinda weird."
"Yeah I'm fine...." Jack sat down next to him.
"Don't lie to me. Please, whats wrong."
"I...I want her back."
"It's only been about 7 or 8 months since her passing, you're still grieving."
"E-even if she was back I'd be afraid I'd mess up with you..." Jack knew times had been hard on Mark.
"It's okay...." He held Mark close.
"It's okay."
