The Mirror

"Jack calm down, it's me. Just keep driving." He thought he had been crazy before, but now he was sure he was absolutely insane.

"I-is it really you?" She chuckled.

"Yes it is."

"Why am I able to hear you better here than back there."

"I'm in a mirror that's why."

"Oh..."

"Jack, I'm proud of you."

"Wait why?! I left my fianc- ex, my best friend, and more people who cared about me in a fit of rage.... Maybe I should go back."

"No it's okay, you left someone who didn't want you for the amazing person you are. You stood up for yourself."

"I still can't believe he said that about you. He had no right to say the things he did." He soon stopped the car at the opening of a forest trail. He didn't get out, he just sat there. He flinched as he felt a cold touch on his cheek and saw her arm coming from the rear view mirror.

"He didn't have the right to be with you. Your heart is far better, brighter and pure than his. I helped Mark, now it's my turn to help you." Mark pulled up next to Jack and got out of his car.

"Tell him." Jack nodded at her words and watched as her arm pulled back into the mirror. Jack opened the door and walked over to Mark who was looking at the forest and how the light of the setting sun poured through it.

"Beautiful isn't it?" Jack stood next to him, seeing the view himself. Smiling at the way it reminded him of home.

"Yeah... It sure is." Mark wrapped an arm around Jack's shoulder and pulled him to his side. Garolf never did anything like this, nor did he ever seem to care about doing anything special with Jack. They stayed silent for a while.

"I should have left him a long time ago.... I don't know what I ever saw in him."

"Don't dwell on it Jack, it's over if you want it to be." Jack leaned his head against Mark's shoulder.

"I shouldn't have been jealous of you and her, it's what got us in the whole mess in the first place." Mark chuckled.

"It's okay, everyone gets jealous. I even got jealous when I heard about your wedding."

"Maybe we could have one of our own someday." Jack said, smiling.

"Maybe."

Soon Jack and Garolf cut ties. Mark and Jack did get together. They wanted to make sure that this was the right choice, so they took their time. She would come around every once and awhile to make sure that they were okay. By the time their wedding day rolled around they were already filling out adoption papers.

~2 Months after the wedding and honeymoon~

"SAM! GET BACK HERE WITH MY BOX!!" Tim laughed as he chased after his adoptive sister.

"NEVER!!!" They chased each other laughing and smiling as they ran through the backyard of their Ohio home. Chica followed them seeing her play pal's having fun without her.

"IMMA GET YOU GUYS!!!" Their dad, Mark yelled as he chased after them. He picked up both of his children and a bear hug, spinning them around, laughing with them. He soon set his kids down in the grass and kissed their foreheads before walking back inside to finish cooking. Jack came out the door holding something behind his back, by now Tim and Sam had long forgotten about the whole box thing. He handed Sam and Tim a couple cookies, they all stuffed their cookies down quickly. Mark didn't like them having dessert before dinner, so they all made quick work or their treats.

"Dinner!" Mark called out from the kitchen. His children and his childlike husband ran to the door and all sat down at the table. After they had eaten a good bit of their dinner Jack broke the silence.

"Do you guys wanna meet someone?" Sam and Tim got excited.

"YEAH!" They yelled in unison. Jack grabbed a hand mirror. The children looked at it confused.

"Um dad, there's no one in there." Tim said, looking very confused.

" She's there alright."

"Are you talking about me? I cant see myself in the mirror." Sam asked. Mark shook his head.

"It's okay, you can come out now." Soon a familiar pale figure appeared, Mark and Jack knew who it was. They didn't tell their children about it though, for they didn't want them to be frightened. It didn't help, they both screamed.

"WHAT IS THAT!!" Tim yelled jumping up a bit. It was Mark's old girlfriend. She smiled and waved at the kids.

"Hello there, please don't be scared. I won't hurt you." Sam looked at her in detail. With her only being 5 years old, she hadn't known not all fairytales are fake.

"Daddy, who is she?" Mark hid his fear of having to relive the memories with a smile.

"She was my girlfriend before I met your Father. She was actually the one who told us we should get together."

"What happened to her?" Tim asked curiously. Mark knew he meant no harm, he didn't know, but it still hurt. Jack looked at Mark, who was trying to push aside the memories.

"Maybe she'll tell you, here. She's wanted to talk to you two for a while." He handed his children the mirror. The kids thanked their fathers before running out of the room and up to their playspace. Mark turned over to Jack once the kids left, tears threatening to spill out. Jack hugged his husband close, rubbing his back to calm him down.

"Is it b-bad that I miss her? Like really miss her..."Jack kissed his head.

"No, she loved you and you loved her. Even before that you and her were friends. You have every right to miss her." Mark cried softly into his chest as the memories of that night came rushing back.
