New Edits

Hey guys! This is not the update but DO NOT FEAR, it will come tomorrow.

I just wanted to let you know that the Editing Monster has won out. I've been stuffing down my obsessive need to pick my work apart until I eventually hate it so much I never end up finishing it, but there are some edits I've been wanting to make to the beginning of this book that I just don't think I can hold off on any longer.

I really think if I do these edits now, the plot and character development will just flow so much better and be a lot more cohesive in general. Y'all are so kind to me in the comments, but I came up with the concept for this about three years ago, randomly wrote and posted the first two chapters on a whim about a year after that, and have been working in sporadic bursts for the past two years.

If you feel like re-reading the first twelve chapters you are more than welcome to do so. However, it is not necessary. I've outlined all the changes I made below, and honestly, if anything you would want to re-read like two or three scenes. The biggest thing is that I've changed Laila and Will's relationship to be much more one-sided on Will's part, and you can see where that happened in the list down there. It sounds super blah and repetitive and boring the way I've written it out but I just wanted you guys to know what's changed.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Chapter Two: When Sam asks Will what happened with Laila, she says that she thought Will and Laila were "doing well with the 'just friends' thing". After he reveals that he told Laila he loves her, Sam reflects on how every time Laila had a new boyfriend or rejected Will, she was sure Will would get over Laila.

Chapter Three: When Sam and Will are talking in her car, she asks him if he thinks he really has a shot with Laila, to which he responds that even if he doesn't, he has to try.

Chapter Four: The beach tradition has been edited to be only a Sam and Laila tradition. Sam's mom tells her to be home in time for dinner instead of saying that they'll see her at the beach.

Chapter Five: In the conversation between Sam and Laila about what Will said, Sam asks if it really came as a surprise, and Laila insists she didn't know Will was in love with her. Laila says she knew he had feelings for her, but that she had told him she only wanted to be friends a thousand times. When Sam presses, Laila admits that she was the one to kiss Will, because she was drunk and he was being sweet about her latest breakup, and she wasn't thinking. Sam asks if Laila loves Will, and Laila says no, but she doesn't know how to tell him without hurting him. Sam is relieved because she had always told herself that secretly being in love with Will didn't matter if Laila didn't actually care about him. Lastly, when Sam says the weather is going to be gorgeous and everyone will be at the beach, Laila pleads to stay in and have a movie day, but Sam insists that hiding out will only make people gossip more. Laila agrees to go on the condition that Sam will be a buffer between her and Will if he shows up, and the same goes for Israel, as she doesn't want him to yell at her again for drinking.

Chapter Six: Sam's family is edited out of the beach scene.

Chapter Seven: Sam's family is edited out of the beach scene.

Chapter Eight: Instead of taking "the kids" out for ice cream, Sam and Laila take Thea out for ice cream.

Chapter Nine: When Sam says that she has to get used to Laila's bad mood as Laila will soon think Sam's been secretly dating Israel behind her back, Israel asks why she doesn't just tell Laila. Sam feels guilty as she hadn't even considered it, and admits to Israel the reason why she's never told Laila about her feelings for Will is because she's worried Laila would shut Will down for good, and Will would only be with Sam because he couldn't have Laila. She also says that, while she knows Laila doesn't feel the same way about Will, she thinks Laila likes the way Will feels about her. And while she won't say it to Israel, she admits to herself that she worries if she were to tell Laila, Laila would want Will simply because Sam wanted him. She doesn't say it out loud because she feels terrible for thinking something like that about Laila, but can't help it. Later that night, Laila confesses that not only does she not love Will, she doesn't even want to. Sam eases Laila's guilt about it, but thinks to herself that Will deserves someone who will want him "for keeps", rather than for drunken mistakes that are taken back the next morning, and is relieved to think she's finally doing something about the issue.

Chapter Ten: When Sam is lying to her mom about her reasons for going to the wedding with Israel, she says that she and Will originally planned to go together, since Laila was in the bridal party, but that due to the current weirdness, Sam couldn't do that out of loyalty to Laila.

Chapter Eleven: Sam's dad is no longer at the wedding.

Chapter Twelve: When Sam asks Laila why she lied about having a date, Laila says it's because she wanted things to go back to normal between her and Will and that she wanted to be friends with him again; however, he told her she had feelings for him too, even if she wouldn't admit it, because she was the one who kissed him.
