ADAMAWA STATE, NIGERIA.

It is a big day for Ahmad, there are things he needs to do and the day is definitely going to be long. This is the day he gets to be part of Nigeria Police Force. He is going to write certification exams for an hour and then the higher ranked officers will decide whether he should join or not. He is sure he is going to get the job without breaking a sweat, he just needs to go through with it so people won't think he got it because his Aunt's husband is influential and got it for him. He does everything with his own hard work!

He got dressed in simple denim jeans and sky blue button up shirt rolling the sleeves up to his elbows to show his sturdy hands. He wore a classic hi cut sneakers to close his feet before walking out of his room. The room is okay, not like the one back in Texas but just enough for him to live for a bit before he packs up and leave after getting a new home.

The room has a king sized Italian bed, gigantic wardrobe by the left side then vanity table by the right alongside the door that leads to a renovated bathroom. In front is a fireplace and television along with a desk where he has already filled with his stuff. He can't live a day without going through his laptop and he did that again the night before to check if everything is going smoothly back in Texas.

"Ma, can you come out front? I don't want to come in and get lost." He said into the phone, walking slowly to the entrance where a security man showed him. He don't want to enter in case if he bumps into Fatima, his mood will be ruined drastically.

"You won't have breakfast before leaving?" She asked but he could hear the shuffles in the background which means she is coming out.

"No, I'll be late if I stay any longer." With that, he hung up the phone and continue the journey to meet her at the front door. She stood there in her nightwear and a silk blue robe she's always loved atop it, her head closed with a cap while her feet are clasped with navy blue flipflop.

"You should've woken up earlier to have breakfast, you need the energy, young man." She scolded, her hands moving to waist in that akimbo style mothers like doing to intimidate their children. She always does it in that caricature way, it is comical.

"Yeah, I slept late that is why." He answered in a cavalier way. "You should get dressed too because as soon as I'm done with the exams, you'll be called to see me get ranked." He smiled gently at the last part because of the beaming smile she gave him filled with pride.

"I'm so proud of you, you know that right?" She gave him a big hug standing low due to their height difference. He is as tall and built as his father she likes to say all the time, he only rolls his eyes at that knowing she is right, unfortunately.

"I know. Now give me your never ending blessings so I ace the exams."

"Huh, my blessings are always with you, sweetie. Those people will be intimidated by your answer and maybe add the rank higher for you. Who knows?" She moved away and shrugged her shoulders still smiling then adjust his collar.

"Thank you, Ma. I'm going now." He kissed her cheek before walking out of the mansion to the auto car he's asked the security to get for him just few minutes ago.

His Aunt didn't know about him leaving with auto, she would've insisted that he takes one of the cars in the house but he don't want to depend on anyone a lot. He's done enough staying with them even on his mother's insistence. Now's the time to start getting everything himself and also get his own car. He should've done that before they arrived, it slipped his mind.

"Good luck!"

The drive to the police quarters is not long, just twenty minutes away and he is already calling the man he was asked to call. They've emailed him everything he needs to do as soon as he gets there so like the confident person he has always been, he aired inside with his shoulders standing and that presence that commands respect yawed everyone's attention to him. He is always easily picked out from the crowd.

Maybe because of his built, tall, big and bulky.

"Mr. Ahmad Hakim Al-Hafiz?" A constable asked from the table Ahmad decided to go to. He got surprised that they recognized him so easily because he didn't send any photo of himself.

Or maybe his complexion. Some say his complexion isn't like normal Nigerian nor does it merge to Americans, that should be it.

"Yes. I'm here for the certification exams." He smiled, a ghost smile to appear polite and not feeling himself because of the echelon he has back in Texas.

"Oh right! The commissioner is yet to arrive but he will be here any minute..." Trailed off, eyes fixed outside the station. "Ah, he is already here!" The constable smiled widely while pointing to the 2020 Nisan Sentra that just rolled inside the Police Station.

The media Ahmad didn't notice earlier followed him quickly trying to get some information about 'him' that he didn't know. So people are patiently waiting to find out who this well respected Police Officer is that transferred from Texas to Nigeria. That is not something they see often, it happens once in a millennia. He smiled inwardly, they didn't see him coming in, they would've bombarded him.

"Sir, sir, what about the transfered officer coming here today? We haven't seen him around."

"Sir, is it true a police officer from Texas is going to work here under you?"

"Are we going to see this foreigner today?"

They keep throwing questions to the commissioner of police while flashing their cameras here and there. The man gave them a hand signal they seem to know well because all of them kept quietened down and waited with baited breath for him to answer their questions. Ahmad felt proud, the man ooze self confidence and respect, just what he should influx.

"He has already arrived, you missed him and it is true, he is going to work under me. We just have to go through with the certification exams like we do every state transfered officer. You can wait here if you want, for the result. You will have to excuse me now." The commissioner of police turn around and stalked inside, his movement filled with gait.

When he walked inside the station and saw Ahmad staring at him with respect then saluted, a smile took over his face too. He's heard a lot about the young man and feels honoured to be the one to work with him. Originally, the police officers from abroad hardly ever want to work in Nigeria, there are none of them so this is great honour on their behalf. He can decide to work close to inspector general of police but he wants to start from where he stopped.

Even the inspector general is coming down to Adamawa later or even now to come see the result of Ahmad's exams along with higher ranked officers. He was supposed to go to Abuja for the exams but because they don't want to drag it any longer as Ahmad requested, the exams will take place right at the headquarters in Adamawa where he is going to work. An honour to have American working for them.

Not just any sleaze person at that, the one who got himself an echelon without no one's help. They needed people like them for a change.

"Good morning, Sir." Ahmad saluted flawlessly as if he was born with the knowledge of knowing how to do so in a unique way.

"Morning." The commissioner of police, Audu Bawa saluted back, straightening his posture to a professional one. They are giving each other same respect. "Shall we?" He gestured to the corridor down the hall neatly kept with a brunette carpet spread and clean.

"Sure! After you." Ahmad is standing at attention before he followed the commissioner closely behind while observing the station. No doubt, this place isn't close to how well kept stations are in Texas but they tried.

It looks like the prisons aren't anywhere close to them which means they are at the other end of the station. All this place has is the offices for higher ranked police officers with their nameplate on each. He didn't have time to read them, he don't want to miss the commissioner and taint his reputation on his first day there. Not that he's ever been distracted away from his mission, he wouldn't have reached where he is.

In no time, Ahmad is sitting in a room all alone facing a computer as he quickly strategies his certification exams. It wasn't hard thing to do since it is not physical, but mostly essays. The questions were very easy though he is not sure about his answers as he studied to be working in America not Nigeria. He took a few lessons online while there in America after finding out they are moving to Nigeria from his mother to enhance and embolden his knowledge about Nigeria Police Council.

After he was done with that, he took the physical exams to finish up. He's passed through that too with excellent physical condition, he never doubted that part anyway.

"He is extremely good. I think assistant commissioner of police seems to degrade him. What do you think?" The inspector general of police, Usman Alkali Baba commented while massaging his shaved jaw. He looks thoroughly impressed with the result.

He is more than just impressed actually, he feels compelled to bring this man close to him. In no time, he's learned the state and constitutional law, local ordinances and civil right in Nigeria. He would've thought he had to just offer the job and he will learn with time only to end up getting a perfect result ricocheted to his face. His respect for this young man just augmented.

"I think so too. But then again, he request for the position and no higher than that. Should we work on what he wants or what he deserves?" Deputy inspector general inquired, giving the commissioner of police the pave to chirp in the matter. He didn't say a thing after seeing the result though he looks more impressed than any other.

"We should give him the pose as ACP for now and then add his rank later so it won't make a dent. He deserves to be the commissioner with such strategies." He joked at the last part earning chuckles but everyone knows he is saying the truth. The guy could be the commissioner.

"Well then, it is settled. Bring out his uniform and let's go honour him." IGP Usman Alkali Baba unfold his height from the swiveling chair in the board meeting room, the rest following suit after that.

He got down to Adamawa from Abuja earlier just in time for Ahmad to finish the written certification exams, physical and psychological. Normally, he wouldn't interfere with such transfers between states and let the commissioner of each state handle their affairs but this, this is something serious that has already met the President's ears. He wanted him to go see this man coming from America to join their force, he would've done it even without the order cause he was too intrigued about this young man.

Even the President wanted to come but couldn't make it, he had to leave the country for some meeting in China. But the governor of the state will be there as they declare Ahmad's pose in the state. Ahmad doesn't know about any of those plans meant for him, he thought it was just something simple. Little did he know, they are honored with his presence.

Ahmad typed gently in his phone telling Oliver about how Nigeria works and so on. While smiling at a joke his friend sent him, he heard the door opening after a soft knock and that same constable he saw earlier came in holding a hanger closed with something jet black, like a suit. His brows unconsciously rose because he was waiting to see the commissioner and know his place but instead got the Constable's.

"ACP Ahmad Hakim Al-Hafiz, your uniform." The Constable whose name is clearly written as Ashiru Ado saluted with his right hand since the other is occupied with the said uniform brought to him.

"Thank you, constable Ado." He smiled, taking the suit from him and hastily opening it to see what is in there for him.

In there is that blue uniform shirt, black slacks, the black cap, ebony socks and leather shoes.

"A small reception is going to take place in a short while for you to welcome you, Sir." After that announcement, Ahmad dismissed him and he saluted before leaving the office for him to get ready.

Ahmad smiled, he's always loved working in the police force whether in America or Nigeria. He also looks effortlessly handsome in that uniform, like it was meant for him all along to come get it. Predestined they say.

Yes, he's sent his measurements through email one of those days but he never expected so much perfection that the uniform clung onto his form. He's took those physical tests and thorough background inspection. He has a star crossed in tipstaves surrounded by laurel wreath which he wore by the shoulder. He knows how they do it cause he's search on internet, he does not need anyone's help. That is what internet is for anyway, it makes life easier.

Deciding to show Oliver a picture, he stood by the floor length mirror and took a quick photo then a calming breathe. He's called his mother minutes ago and she said she is on her way with the family. The sense of pride took over his chest before he made his way to the door. The place seems awfully quite but he followed the same lane he's memorised with his sharp memory and found himself in front if the board meeting room where the noise is coming from.

"Good, he is here. Welcome to the board, ACP Al-Hafiz. I hope you don't mind the small reception and talking to the media?" The commissioner stepped forward, a smile spreading across his face.

"No, Sir." He stood straighter, his hands intertwined behind his back in the professional yet royal flawless stand only emperor's can pull off.

"Good. This is IGP. Usman Alkali Baba, DIG. Kashim Abubakar and AIG. Louis Austin Adeleke." The commissioner introduced the higher ranked officers in the room first, pointing at each one of them as he goes.

Ahmad saluted to them at once before he was given their hands to shake, he did that too without fear or preamble. His eyes are focused with determination and love for his profession. He can see the respect in their eyes for him and he won't lie, it makes his ego swell a notch but not enough for him to be too prideful. He hopes his arrogance won't take over, he hates when it does.

"Welcome to the police force." IGP. Usman Alkali Baba hit Ahmad's shoulder in that fatherly way earning a small smile from Ahmad. He is going to get along with his seniors from the looks of it.

The commissioner further introduce the ones he is going to work with there at the headquarters. From deputy commissioner, to chief superintendent of police, his deputy and assistant, inspector police, sergeant major, corporal and constable. They are all really welcoming though he could see he is going to face bits of problems with some. The women are extra friendly and flirty though they are keeping it at bay because of the seniors.

Sighs, when is he going to escape the clutches of women in his life?

"How does it feel being the assistant commissioner of police, Sir?" One of the media people questioned him as he stood on the makeshift manmade stage upfront after been declared ACP. Ahmad Hakim Al-Hafiz to the whole world by the inspector general.

"It feels great and I feel honoured to be part of the force here. Though a bit overwhelmed because I'm still learning how the operation works here, it feels incredible." His smile is a ghost one, not intending to give them chance of seeing that full blown fake one.

"Why are you so dedicated to your job?"

"Because I love to save people whenever I can and I have strong moral compass and also sense of duty." The day kept going like that till the governor arrived and they took many photos to be posted on social media, newspapers, magazines and television channels.

His mother, Aunt, cousins and stepbrother are there with him featuring wide smiles and he called them up so they can take photos too. It was a good day for him, a memorable one too.
