Prologue
A/N : here we are......yay! Let's see where this goes.
3rd Person POV
Grimm, creatures of darkness, lured in by negative emotions, greatest threat to all of Remnant....or so we thought. 30 years ago, a greater threat rose from the shadows under everyone's noses, a threat greater than the Grimm. Demons from hell. At first there were only lesser demons, very weak, stupid and slow, but after a few months the attacks from the demons got more frequent and they sent in greater demons that were smarter, faster and even stronger than the lesser demons, after several months the attacks got worse and the demons sent were even stronger than the last bunch. Many hunters and cities were lost during the war, but Remnant still stood strong, until the second year of the war when the demonic threat grew too strong for Remnant's forces, reluctantly the hunters had to work together with Salem the Queen of all Grimm to drive out this great threat. It was Remnant's last stand, no one thought that they would live to see another day, until an army of huge buffed out men with weapons of made out of pure energy emerged. Despite the odds being against them and losing many huntsmen in the battle, they won. They drove the demons back to hell, but they all knew that this victory would be temporary and they were right, for the demonic portals would still open and from them the beasts would emerge-
(F/N) POV
I was reading my son (Y/N) his favorite story of Remnant's last stand against demons, and by his expression I could tell that he was thoroughly enjoying it. As always.
(F/N) : but this time, the hunters would be prepared. The end.
(Y/N) : woah, that was so cool!
(F/N) : I know (Y/N), I know. You say that every time I read you this story. Now go to sleep (Y/N), you don't want to be sleepy when your teacher comes to visit.
(Y/N) : wait, dad....you're not gonna stay?
(F/N) : I'm sorry kiddo, but I've got some work to do, but your mom is gonna stay with you.
(Y/N) : *sigh* alright. Good night dad.
(F/N) : good night (Y/N).
I got up from the chair I was sitting on, turned off all the lights and exited the hospital room, closing the door behind me. I then went down the hallway to meet up with my wife who just got back from her shift.
(M/N) : sorry I'm late, how is he doing?
(F/N) : better than last time, I can tell that much.
(M/N) : my poor boy.....did his doctor say anything?
(F/N) : not really since I haven't seen him for couple of hours now. He should've been here by now.
One of the nurses who have seemed to hear us came towards us and spoke up.
Nurse : Mr (L/N), sorry to interrupt but Dr Conners is in middle of an important meeting, you can wait for him if you want, the meeting should be over in about half an hour.
(M/N) : it's alright I'll wait, you go to work honey *kisses his cheek* you don't want to be late to work.
I just nodded and left for my work in the other side of the city.
(M/N) POV
After (F/N) Left I just sat down on one of the benches near (Y/N)'s room and waited for doctor Conners to finish his meeting. To think that two years ago was when all of this happened. It all makes my heart ache. Everytime he seems to get even slightly better something has to happen to ruin it all. I sat there for the next 45 minutes or so, occasionally checking on (Y/N) who seemed to be sleeping for now. I can still remember him complaining about the hospital beds being so rough and how he couldn't sleep all night, now he has gotten used to them. I wish I could just take him home and tuck him in his own bed. Unfortunately that can't be done. I then heard a door open and I looked to see doctor Conners in the hallway speaking with some Atlas soldiers and...Lieutenant Ironwood? What is he doing here? I just shrugged it off and stayed on my seat and waited for them to finish their talk, I don't want to attract their attention, if any one of them recognizes me, I'll be getting a mouthful from the general, and he's one ruthless man, he doesn't have any empathy and doesn't care about the soldier's or their family's well being, all he cares about is to work us to death. I saw him take away someone's uniform just because they had the audacity to try to leave 5 minutes early to pick up his son from school, I don't want the same to happen to me, I need the money, I need it for (Y/N). They talked for about 5 more minutes before they parted and were on their way to the exit, I wanted to sigh out of relief but then I felt a hand on my shoulder so I looked at who it was and saw the Lieutenant which made my heart sink, I couldn't do anything else except stand up and fumble on my words.
(M/N) : S-sir....I-I-
Ironwood : it's alright Major, be at ease. You're not in uniform so no need to be so formal. I know why you're here, and I've gotta admit, he's quite a warrior.
(M/N) : T-thank you, Lieutenant.
Ironwood : I've seen what you've done to provide for your family, especially your son, so I've paid for most of the hospital expenses, it's the least I could do for the little guy.
(M/N) : Lieutenant, I-I.....I don't know what to say.....thank you.
Ironwood : as I said, it was the only thing I could do. I'll be heading back to HQ, and don't worry, the General won't know a thing.
He then left with the two soldiers following behind him, who would've known, there are still good people in Atlas. As soon as he left doctor Connors approached me and just from his expression I could tell that he didn't have good news with him.
Dr Connors : Ms (L/N) I-
(M/N) : we've been through this more than a few times....just tell me the news Doctor.
Dr Connors : *sigh* his tumor has gotten way worse then we ever anticipated. At this stage, anything that we're gonna do will probably only make it worse.
(M/N) : how much time does he have?
Dr Connors : if he's lucky, maybe a month. I'd suggest you take him back home and try to make as many good memories as possible.
(M/N) : I understand.....thank you for all you've done Doctor.
He just sadly nodded and went to his office and I went inside (Y/N)'s room and sat next to his bed as he slept peacefully. After all we've done, it was all for nothing.....my poor baby boy.
??? : maybe I can be of some assistance.
I immediately turned back and saw a figure emerge from the shadow, and just from her pale face and red eyes I could tell, it was Salem, the queen of all Grimm.
(M/N) : q-queen Salem....wh-what do you want?
Salem : I just wish to heal your son.
(M/N) : b-but.....how? The doctors couldn't do anything, how are you gonna be different.
Salem : I'll turn him into a Grimm.
(M/N) : what?
Salem : don't worry, he won't be turned into one of the monsters, but his appearance will change and will resemble something close to mine.
(M/N) : that....doesn't seem that bad.
Salem : maybe not right now, but it might become a problem in the future, the peace treaty is still brand new and Grimm are still viewed as monsters. His life might get a little harder, but he'll live and will have the strength to overcome it.
I looked at (Y/N) for a few seconds as I thought about her offer, she seemed genuine about it and didn't mean any harm.....but the thought of him being treated like a monster in the future.....I can't bring myself to put him through such torture. I faced Salem again with a sad smile as I spoke again.
(M/N) : thank you for your offer, but I rather give him a painless death instead of a life of torture.
Salem : I understand. But would you do me a favor?
(M/N) : yes?
Salem : *makes a black shard in her hand* give this to him when you arrived home.
(M/N) : what is this?
Salem : a Grimm shard, it'll summon a baby Beowolf. Don't worry, he's tamed and harmless.
(M/N) : but...why?
Salem : I thought maybe he'll need a friend in his last days.
(M/N) : *takes the shard* thank you.
Salem : I'm just doing what I can to ease another mother's pain. Farewell for now.
She then left the room through the door, leaving me wondering "did I do the right thing?". The next day I went to Atlas and wanted to retire from the military to take care of my son, but then I was informed that the General retired today and Ironwood became his replacement. I gathered all of my courage and told him the situation with (Y/N) which seemed to sadden him, he gave me a month off to take care of my son and be with him in his last days, and I'm planning to do that as best as I can. I thanked him and then left Atlas to go back home, cause I knew my husband picked up (Y/N) from the hospital and went home by now.
(F/N) POV
I was at home with (Y/N) and we were playing hide and seek. Right now I'm the one who's seeking, and I really can't find him anywhere, I looked everywhere in the house. Where could he be?
(F/N) : (Y/N)! Come out, come out wherever you are!
I looked around another time and I couldn't see him, I then heard a low childish giggle and a branch breaking. Oh dear God, please don't tell me.....I looked up from the base of the tree and saw him on one of the tallest branches, he was almost at the top, he noticed me looking at him and just waved with a smile on his face. I'm just wide eyed and have my jaw dropped to the floor to how this is even possible. Last time I checked hospital food doesn't give you enough energy to climb a tree.
(F/N) : H-how did you get up there?
(Y/N) : umm.....I climbed.
(F/N) : *chuckle* well then, since you had enough energy to climb a tall tree, you definitely have enough energy to do your homework.
(Y/N) : *groan* no, I'm all out energy. I can't even climb down on my own.
(F/N) : *chuckles* I see. Lazy as always. Well then, here I come.
I then jumped up on the tree and used the different branches as jumping points till I got to the branch he was on. He just looked at me with his mouth wide open.
(Y/N) : woah.....how did you do all of that?
(F/N) : didn't I tell you I was a huntsman?
(Y/N) : yeah, but.....I thought you were just lying.
(F/N) : I'd never lie to you (Y/N), never. Now come on let's get you down.
He then started to crawl towards me but then the branch broke making him fall. I used my semblance "Chrono Strike" to slow down time giving me some extra seconds to think, but since I didn't get any good ideas I just lunged myself at him and held him tight in a bear hug to shield him from the impact. Let's hope my aura won't fail me or else this will hurt, a lot.
(M/N) POV
I just arrived at home while holding the Grimm shard in my hand, wandering how it works until I heard a loud thud from the backyard, so I rushed to where I heard the sound and saw (F/N) on the ground hugging (Y/N) for dear life.
(F/N) : ow.....that kinda hurt. You okay kiddo?
(Y/N) : Y-yeah, my leg kinda hurt tho.
I then noticed a broken tree branch not far from where they were laying. Dear God.
(M/N) : I left you boys for just two minutes and I come back to seeing you both falling from trees?!
(F/N) : *looks up* oh, hi honey. We uhh-
(Y/N) : we were playing hide and seek.
(M/N) : let me guess your dad hid on top of the tree?
(F/N) : actually it's the other way around. *gets up and dusts himself off* (Y/N) here was the one who climbed the tree and forced me to go after him.
(M/N) : wait....you're telling me....(Y/N) climbed the tree?
(Y/N) : yup, I did! Almost to the top. It was so fun.
(M/N) : ....how do you have enough energy to climb to the top of a tree but never have enough energy to do your homework?
(Y/N) : cause doing homework is boring.
(F/N) : you know, if you don't do your homework you'll never be a huntsman.
(Y/N) : what?!
(F/N) : if you do poorly at school you'll never be accepted at any of the huntsman academies, so you'll never become a huntsman.
(Y/N) : you mean the only way I can become the greatest huntsman in all of Remnant is to do my homework?
(F/N) : yup.
(Y/N) then went silent for a few seconds and then wanted to rush to his room to probably do his homework, but (F/N) caught him.
(F/N) : now where do you think you're going?
(Y/N) : *struggling* going to do my homework.
(F/N) : *chuckles* but you don't have homework. Remember? Your teachers said they're giving you some days off.
(Y/N) : oh.....yeah.....I forgot.
(F/N) : *chuckles* it's alright kiddo. Now come on. *picks him up and puts him on his shoulders* now that your mom is home, let's go and eat lunch. I'm starving.
(Y/N) : is it pizza time?
(F/N) : yep. It's pizza time.
They went in the house with (Y/N) being excited about pizza as I just stood there with a smile on my face. I looked up at the tree that (Y/N) apparently climbed. I'm still amazed how he climbed that high, oh well, he's his father's son. I remember (F/N) climbing tall trees when we were kids. I just shook my head and went in the house to join my family for lunch.
(M/N) : save some slices for me!
Three months later
It's weird, after a month passed we took him back to the hospital to take some tests, and the doctor said that the tumor is gone, like it's never been there in the first place. It was like a miracle, but just for safety reasons they inserted a medical nano-chip into his heart to monitor his heart beat. When we returned home he immediately wanted to start training to be a huntsman, he was a little too eager, he even started doing his homework. Him and (F/N) been training for the past two months now. Guess he really wants to be a huntsman, like every other kid. Currently I was doing the dishes as I heard (F/N)'s footsteps behind me.
(M/N) : so...how was training?
(F/N) : it was good for the most part. He's getting better by the day. I might take him to the island one of these days.
(M/N) : that's what you said last year, and the year before and the year before that, yet you never took him there.
(F/N) : well.....I got a very good reason I didn't take him there for the past 2 years. This time I'm serious. I'll take him there, he has the right to see his uncle and cousins.
(M/N) : yes, he does, but be careful. We both know your brother is a sweet talker, he might take away our son.
(F/N) : over my dead body he will. He's a good teacher, but I'm better, I do have the shotgun after all.
(M/N) : yes yes I know, oh mighty arch-slayer.
(F/N) : hehehe. *kisses her on the cheek* I'm gonna go sleep now. We got a big day ahead of us.
(M/N) : alright. I'll join you in a bit~.
He then went upstairs and to our bedroom. I just sighed as I did the rest of the dishes. Before going to our own bedroom I checked on (Y/N) and he was fast asleep from the exhaustion. It made me smile seeing him working hard for what he wants. Tomorrow is gonna make him even more motivated.
Prologue End
A/N : hey everyone.....thanks for being patient. Thanks for reading this bore-fest. I hate myself for taking this long to write it, but this is something I'd like to take my time on this one, cause I got too many ideas for this story and don't want them to collide and destroy each other like it did with my first stories. I rambled too much, sorry. Anyway, hope you liked this....relatively very weak start. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go and try my luck in that fucking Archvile maze from Plutonia. Knightmare out.
