I Did It... Right?
Death.
Death is not something that is easy for anyone to handle.
Death is something that is both foreign yet known to every living creature on this planet. Whether it be from we humans to the fish living way down at the bottom of the deepest parts of the ocean. Nobody can say that they don't know what death can be like.
It is something that causes grief and sadness as everyone mourns who was lost.
Tony Stark isn't foreign to it at all. He's had to deal with losing many people in his life. But no matter what he did, they just always seemed to slip from his grasp.
"MR. STARK MOVE!" Peter yelled ramming into Tony and tackling him away from an oncoming attack.
"Thanks kid" Tony breathed out shaking himself out of his distracted state.
"Are you okay? Do you need to sit out? I'm sure we can handle it without you" Peter questioned laying a hand on Tony's shoulder.
"No I'll be fine. Just a bit tired" Tony sighed before taking off again. The man looked back down to see Peter shaking his head before swinging away to beat down some more agents.
Currently, the Avengers were all trying to defend Manhattan from a bunch of agents from the newly reformed HYDRA.
Peter was more than happy to leave school when he heard what was going on. Peter knew that he would've ended up getting involved whether or not Tony liked it. Yet, Peter knew something was wrong. His senses have been going off all day yet Peter couldn't figure out why.
Finally, after hours of fighting, the Avengers in their battered and bruised state all stood in front of the head honcho who was the only agent left standing. From the ones webbed to walls to the ones on the ground.
"So. It's just you all and me no?" Strucker laughed enjoying the clear fear in the eyes of the twins who were being guarded by Peter himself.
"What did you think you were going to accomplish from this? World domination? The end of the Avengers?" Steve asked somehow standing tall with his side cut open.
"No. Not at all actually. I have found a weakness within the Avengers and I planned to exploit it. Isn't that right Peter Parker?" Strucker hissed waving his hand.
Peter tensed when the man said his name. As did every other Avenger.
Suddenly, two agents came out of the van behind Strucker dragging someone out with them.
"MAY!" Peter yelled in agony as the agents shoved a clearly abused May to the ground.
May looked up at Peter with as much admiration she could muster at that moment.
"Now. We're willing to make a deal. We take the boy, and dear old auntie May gets to keep her life" Strucker cackled cocking a gun and placing it against May's temple.
"You son of a—" Tony was cut off by Peter saying something that he didn't want to hear.
"I'll go. Just leave May out of this".
Very quickly all the Avengers started to protest saying that there had to be another way. It very quickly went silent when Peter pulled off his mask to reveal his grief ridden face.
"What do you say boy?" Strucker smirked enjoying seeing the teen in so much agony.
"Peter. Don't. It's okay. Just don't give yourself up for me. The world can't lose you Peter" May pleaded ignoring the instructions to stay quiet.
"And I can't lose you May. I'll be fine. I can handle it" Peter mumbled shaking his head and walking towards Strucker.
Everyone stood still as Peter was able to untie May and give her one last hug.
"Please baby. Don't do this" May cried stroking Peter's face.
"I have to. I'm Spider-Man. I can handle it" Peter consoled his aunt before walking her to the Avengers who were all silently crying.
Peter gave them a wink before walking back towards Strucker. The crazed man smiled wide as the spider kid came within arms reach.
Before anyone could blink, Peter quickly webbed the two agents to the ground. Yet immediately after he was met with a burning pain in his chest causing the teen to scream.
Many different sounds of weapons went off at once as many killing Strucker on impact.
"PETER!" Tony yelled jumping out of his suit and landing on his knees next to Peter's head.
Tony quickly picked Peter up into his arms as blood quickly seeped through the bullet wound right where his heart is. Blood also started to run down from his nose making the teen grimace in pain and uncomfortableness.
"Hey kid. Just look at me you're going to be alright" Tony said as tears streamed down his face laying his forehead against Peter's, "You're going to be just fine".
"I did it... right?" Peter quietly asked as his life slowly slipped away from him.
"Yeah. You did it kid. Now you just gotta fight one more time so you can stay with us. You're not allowed to sleep do you hear me?" Tony sobbed trying to put pressure on the wound in a futile attempt to slow the bleeding.
"I know.. I'm not gonna.. make it" Peter whimpered weakly raising his hand to place it on Tony's arc reactor.
"No. You're going to make it" Tony retorted more trying to reassure himself.
"Oh my baby why would you do that?" May asked grabbing onto Peter's other hand as Tony lifted his face to let May see Peter properly.
"To save.. you" Peter gasped as another wave of pain hit him.
"No. The world needs you Peter. We all need you. Just please stay with us" May begged silently crying not wanting to lose another loved one.
"Dad... May. Can I sleep now?" Peter asked his eyes slowly dimming and his breathing becoming more staggered.
"Not yet Pete. You can't leave yet" Tony cried as more tears brewed when Peter called him dad.
"I.. can't... I'm sorry... I need to sleep" Peter whispered as his eyes slowly started to close.
At this point everyone had given up hope. The paramedics were too far away and Peter was seconds away from death.
"Okay buddy" May said running a hand through Peter's hair and placing a gentle kiss on his forehead.
"You can rest easy now. Have a nice long sleep. You'll be okay" Tony mumbled kissing Peter's forehead as well.
"I'll be.. your.. guardian... angel... love you" Peter staggered out as his life was about to come to an end.
"Love you too Pete" May responded cupping Peter's face.
"Love you so much. Sleep tight underoos" Tony said giving Peter one weak smile before Peter's breathing completely stopped and his body fell completely still.
Tony started sobbing loudly as Peter went limp in his arms. Tears cascaded like waterfalls down his face as he held his son close to his chest. Tony's wails could be heard from a mile away.
"Oh God. Please give him back. Why did you have to leave me? WHY COULDN'T I KEEP YOU SAFE!?" Tony screamed as pure grief and sadness took over his being.
Paramedics had finally shown up and were greeted by horrible scene.
Bucky Barnes leaning against a tree right next to Sam Wilson as they both cried silently.
Wanda Maximoff sobbing into Pietro Maximoff's chest as Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton held them close. All silently crying.
Steve Rogers on his knees looking up to the sky, Spider-Man's mask held tightly in his head as tears streamed down his face.
Scott Lang openly crying with his arm loosely handing over the shoulders of Bruce Banner who was wiping tears from his eyes.
Thor Odinson holding his brother Loki Odinson close to his chest as both Gods cried silently.
May Parker being held by Pepper Potts who had just arrived on scene, as the mourning aunt sobbed into her shoulder.
Finally, there was world renowned Tony Stark, sobbing loudly as he held the dead body of an unmasked Spider-Man. The mans cries being one of the only things heard in the once peaceful park.
Peter Parker was many things. A friend, a hero, a nephew, a kind soul, a son. Unfortunately for New York. Peter Parker was lost that day. Another soul ripped from the hands of their loved ones.
