Feelings Of Guiltiness And Acceptance

"Mommy what's wrong?" Carlos asked as he just sat down by her and tried to figure out what was going on to make her so upset. "Yeah what's wrong?" Luke asked Cassie as well as he also had seen her start crying again.

Cassie just closed her eyes and quickly wiped her tears as she knew that she needed to be strong for her boys. "Nothing, everything is gonna be okay. I promise," Cassie told the twins who just nodded as they kept watching her unsure if they should believe her or not.

"Mommy?" Both boys said to Cassie as they waited for her to respond again. "Hm?" Cassie asked the two of them. "Is Mal gonna be okay?" The twins both asked Cassie as they were also worried about their sister. It had been terrifying for them to see their baby sister the way she was. Their grandma had assured them that everything would be okay, but seeing their mommy so upset was making them worried again.

Cassie just quickly wiped her tears again as she just smiled a little bit and looked at the two boys. "Yeah of course. You know how Mal is. She's a fighter we all are," Cassie told her two sons as she tried her best to sound confident despite how much she was holding back her urge to cry again.

"You promise?" Carlos asked Cassie but before Cassie could respond Luke was already on it as he looked at his twin. "She's gonna be okay. She's as strong as a dragon, remember! She's our baby dragon," Luke told his brother who smiled and nodded. "Yeah you're right," Carlos exclaimed, making Cassie smile as she just pulled the twins close to her in a hug.

It was warming her heart to see how much her boys truly loved and cared for their baby sister. It was definitely helping to keep her distracted as she listened to the boys talk about how strong Mal was and how much they loved and cared for her. And she also found it sweet how despite how much Luke liked to put up a tough boy act he was a sweetheart when it came to his brother and sister.

"So if she's doing okay now can we see her?" Marisol asked the doctor as she could see that Cassie was a bit distracted by everything and with the boys. "Right yes you may but be careful," the doctor told the group as she just told them what room to go to.

As soon as they entered the room Cassie went straight over to Mal as she just sat by her and carefully pulled her close to her. "Mama," Mal cried out as she just clung onto Cassie. The young girl had been terrified as she still didn't really know where she was or what was happening, but at least she had her mommy again.

"Yeah Mal I'm right here. You're gonna be okay. I'm so sorry this is all my fault. I knew I should have stayed home with you instead of going to work," Cassie exclaimed as she felt the tears start to fall again.

"Cassie, stop blaming yourself. Even if you did stay with her this still would have happened," Marisol told Cassie who just sighed as she slowly nodded knowing that her mom was right.

"I just feel so terrible about this. I'm her mom. I'm supposed to know when something is wrong. I should have really been paying more attention to her. I don't know how I missed the signs. I'm a type 1 diabetic myself. I should have easily been able to notice the signs," Cassie exclaimed as she just kept holding Mal close to her. "Cassie, stop blaming yourself. We all miss things. How do you think I felt when you were diagnosed?" Marisol told Cassie who just looked over at her mom as she hadn't really thought about that much.

She had been so focused on her own feelings that she hadn't really taken into account how that must have been for her mom as well. "I don't know, I guess I hadn't really thought about that much," Cassie told Marisol who just slowly nodded as she hugged her.

"As a parent we want what's best for our kids and it can be terrifying when something happens. It's not anyone's fault though. This isn't something you could predict nor is it something you could prevent. These things just happen sometimes," Marisol told her daughter.

Cassie just sighed as she slowly nodded knowing her mom was right. As much as Cassie didn't want for this to be happening there was nothing she could do to stop it. "You're right but I just don't know how I'm going to do this. It's already hard enough with managing my own diabetes and now I'm adding hers as well. What if it's too much and what if I can't handle it," Cassie admitted as she just kept holding Mal close to her.

"I know it's gonna be hard but we'll get through this just like we always do. You're not alone, you know I'm always here to help. Now it's getting late and I should probably let you have some time with the kids. I love you and I'll see you soon. You got this," Marisol told Cassie.

She wanted to stay, but she knew that it was best to give Cassie some time with the kids, especially since it was obvious Cassie was still feeling guilty about not being there for Mal earlier. Cassie just smiled a little bit as she hugged her mom. "Thanks ma and I love you too," Cassie told Marisol who just smiled as she released the hug and then went to the kids.

"Alright grandma's leaving. Can I have a hug first though?" Marisol told the two boys who nodded as they quickly hugged her. "Aw and I can't forget about my favorite granddaughter either. Come here sweetie. You'll get better soon okay. I love you and I'll see you again very soon," Marisol told her youngest grandchild as she just carefully hugged her as well making Mal giggle a little as she hugged back.

"Wob oo," Mal told her grandma as best she could, making her smile as she just kissed Mal's forehead before getting back up and starting to leave."Wait Grandma before you leave, we never got our second popsicle," Luke reminded Marisol, making both her and Cassie laugh at the innocence.

"Next time I promise now I gotta go. I love you," Marisol told the two who nodded and smiled. "We love you too," the twins both exclaimed as they just went back over to Mal and Cassie. "Mal you scared us," Carlos told his baby sister who just hugged him. "I sowy," Mal told Carlos who just smiled as he hugged back just happy that she was okay.

"It's okay Mal we're just glad you're okay. Even though I knew you would be because you're our baby dragon," Luke told Mal who giggled a little as she nodded. "Woaw!" Mal cried out causing all three of them to laugh.

"Okay my little baby dragon we've had a long and very eventful day haven't we. I think it's bedtime," Cassie told the young girl who just shook her head as she kept playing with her brothers now that she was starting to feel better again. "Mommy we're not tired," Carlos told Cassie who sighed as she looked at the time.

"I know you're not but it's really late and way past your bedtime," Cassie told the kids who just pouted as they gave her puppy dog eyes. "But mommy we can't go to sleep yet. Me and Carlos have to stay up and protect Mal," Luke told Cassie who just closed her eyes as she didn't want to give in.

"Yeah mommy it's our job!" Carlos told Cassie who just melted as she looked over at the two boys. "Okay fine but just this once," Cassie told her twins as she had to admit that she didn't really think she would be getting much sleep anyway not that she normally did.

Mal was fine for now, but this was far from over and she just knew that things were about to get a lot more difficult and stressful now that she was about to add a second type 1 diabetic onto their medical expenses along with the new fears that came with this.
