"Stay down! I've never seen those before." John said, a little anxious, but we did what he said.
The mushroom zombies made weird clicking noises as they walked, but fortunately there was only two to be seen. The others were just normal zombies.
Then a regular zombie perked it's head up and began to walk this way pretty slowly.
"Stay quiet. I know what to do." Dad said.
He waited until he got closer until it was making me uncomfortable. I kept Olivia and Braxton close to the wall and behind me.
Then Dad grabbed the zombies' shirt and forced it down here. He wrapped his arm around its neck and put it in a chokehold, choking it to death. He gagged quietly and finally went quiet.
"Good lord I never want to do that again." Dad said as he rested the dead zombie away from us.
"That was smart, actually. Let's try to stick to that since I'm running out of knives." John said, patting him on the back.
I sighed in relief and followed closely behind the adults as more zombies came in our direction. John was forced to quietly kill another normal zombie that almost spotted us, and we really did not want to get in a huge fight that could stir up a horde that we couldn't handle.
We were fine for a while, until the clicking zombies began to limp in our direction.
"Dad, I don't think we can choke this one out. Look at its neck." I whispered.
Its neck was filled with the orange mushrooms, and they looked poisonous to touch. He cursed quietly under his breath.
"I think you're right. What should we do?"
It began to get closer, and I saw the SIFF blade, which is a long dagger, in John's hand. "Use that."
He looked at it and glanced at the ugly zombie. "I can roll my sleeves down and put it in a chokehold. Then I can stab it to bring it down."
"Sounds good. Keep it quiet, please." Candice said, scared out of her wits.
He waited patiently until it went past us, and it never even noticed us. "Huh. Maybe it's just too stupid."
"Wait a minute." I said, and I rummaged through my backpack and pulled out a flashlight.
"Jeremy, what are you doing?" Mom asked frantically. I ignored her and shined the flashlight right at its face, and it didn't even react to it.
"It's blind." I said. Both dad and John looked at me in amazement.
"Huh. Let's not make much noise then. I don't want a fight with them." Dad said.
We snuck past the first terminal without any more quiet kills until we made it to the B gates.
"The airlift should be up here, if I can recall correctly. It just seems like something is wrong, because nobody is here." Candice said nervous.
"Well, we better hope that we're not the only ones alive here, then." John said.
We kept creeping closer to the C terminal, avoiding any contact with the walking dead.
That is, until somebody screamed.
All of us looked at where the yelling came from, and a woman with a little boy was trying to run from a small group of normal zombies. There wasn't any of the clicking zombies to be found, except behind us. I quickly shined my flashlight behind me, and we were safe.
Once I shined it dimly ahead of us, the woman was trying her best to beat off the zombies that were chasing her.
"Come on!" John said as he began to run forward towards the C gates.
"What about them!?" Candice asked.
"We can't help them! It's us or die!"
I frowned and clicked my flashlight at the zombies, still not quite at the woman and the kid yet. I then threw the flashlight at the hall we came from, and they went after it. The woman looked confused, but ran out of the airport with her kid.
I pulled out my extra, not quite as strong, but still usable, and turned it on.
We made it to the C gates, and nothing was to be seen.
"Oh no..." Olivia mumbled, scared.
I held her close as I waited for either dad or John to give us instructions. It was still dark and creepy, and I felt like I was being watched wherever I went.
"Jeremy, flashlight please." Dad said.
I turned it off and handed it to him, which he turned back on and put his hand over the front of it so it won't be super bright.
What I saw scared me. There was tons of zombies filled up inside the entire terminal, but one particular zombie with a strange uniform caught my attention. I narrowed my eyes to see it, and I gasped quietly.
It had a police uniform, with a badge that I couldn't read. If the pieces went together, the airlift obviously failed and they got overwhelmed with the amount of zombies.
"D-Dad..." I said.
"What is it?"
"We need to leave. The airlift failed. We can drive to Washington." I said, becoming anxious.
"What? Why?" John asked, a little too loud for my comfort.
"Some of the zombies have police uniforms. We need to go, now." I said again.
John cursed and dad shined the flashlight behind us, and my flashlight trick still had them confused.
Then I heard more groaning, and some of the huge horde was looking our direction.
"William." Mom said, trying to motion him to go.
We tried to sneak off, but it only made matters worse. The horde spotted the flashlight, and I knew right then we were screwed.
Then Candice screamed. "Run!"
The horde screamed as I picked up Olivia while mom had Braxton. We booked it to the exit in the B terminal, but it was unfortunately locked.
"Damn it!" John said as he punched the window with no success. I pulled out my shotgun and forced everyone back. I fired at the window and it shattered easily.
Candice screamed, but we kept running out towards the truck, but John forced us to stop.
"Candice!" He screamed in agony at the horde who took her.
